  1. Lots of things to like with this update! I like the new look of Hellhounds a great deal; not a fan of nechs though. Rhino capes for range/mage is interesting, but iirc they're still not as good as Ava's/god capes which are both easier to get, so... *shrug* (They're the exact same stats except for the combat style, yes?) The fire cape override looks terrible; I'm glad it's not the new default. That being said, I agree with Ping that (if it actually looked good) they really should update the default and then make the former look an optional override. I might actually go do DKs now that I don't need a door partner, woo! Also extra task block, woo! And I don't have to go hide when I do my divine locs anymore! I find it... odd? that silverhawk feathers are destroyed and not converted to any sort of cash when you die in the Wildy with them, not that I would expect anyone to take them in the Wildy in the first place. I'm fairly ambivalent about the skillchompas. I may go train hunter on them some for some cash, and it's definitely nice to have another viable skilling moneymaking method. I'll actually use the authenticator, unlike JAG, so that's nice to have around.
  2. Honestly, I doubt it's worth their time to hire a third party to try and crack their systems. They might do some work internally, but no way will they hire an outside group for it. The most sensitive/valuable info they have is payment info, which is largely separate from the login info this system is designed to protect. (That might be worth outside testing, but if I'm not mistaken, companies generally contract third-party software to handle that entirely.)
  3. More like actually requiring skilling materials. So boss dropped pieces plus a bunch of gems/bars/logs/runes/hides/whatever. Right now the skilling materials aren't very useful for actually making anything and are mostly just exp gain items. That would be nice as well, aye. I hate that 99 smithing lets you make t50 equipment - woooo. Crafting & fletching aren't much better, as far as making useful equipment goes.
  4. With the captains having 4x +1% to their respective stats as traits, the exception being the Multi-Talented Seafaring captain as you said, yep! It is a handy guide, for sure.
  5. How do you do that? I think you just talk to the guy and he takes it from your toolbelt? I'm not actually sure, as I haven't made an imcando myself. (Not being able to keep it on my toolbelt is a dealbreaker.) I agree that they probably should remove the dragon pickaxe requirement of the imcando. It's unnecessary. I'm not sure that we need the upgrade mechanic for the crystal versions, but I'm willing to let that slide (in no small part because I already own both dragon tools, so I'm not really losing anything from it.) I find their explanation of durations for the combined overload+antifire interesting... so you can just bring one combo pot and one overload and sip the overload when the overload portion of the combo runs out, yes? Still saves one inventory space, so it's not a bad idea. I'm not sure why it'd be that difficult to code "whenever you empty a crystal flask, it breaks, even if you're decanting and not drinking the contents", but... *shrug*. I vaguely recall weird restrictions on similar actions with regular potion flasks (I can't decant a 5-dose into two regular vials? WHY NOT?); I think it'd be easy to change that to the above, but that's just me. What's stupid about Dragon Hatchet/Pickaxe again? PvM method to obtain a non-PvM required item. Thats like pickpocketing would grant drygores. The skills should be intertwined. PvM providing everything for pvm gear is an issue I think they should work on. Smithing/Crafting was supposed to provide the supplies for combat originally. Bossing should just supply a piece of armour/weapons that needs to be combined with other supplies from skilling to make the gear. Like how you had to have high smithing, or pay an NPC, to combine the metal shards and make the dragon platebody? IIRC there's a smithing requirement on combining the Godsword pieces as well, but I could be wrong on that. I thought that was a really cool idea which didn't see enough use because the dragon platebody kinda sucked.
  6. With Revolution, they are. When you're in Revolution mode, for most people it uses basics in a completely arbitrary manner. Might as well just make it so Revolution would be auto-attacks as strong as using those basics + getting 8% adrenaline per 3 ticks and being able to use Thresholds and Ultimates. I don't completely agree with this. I pay attention to the order I assign basics when using Revolution, putting the highest damage (and usually highest cooldown) at the front and the lowest damage/lowest cooldown at the end, and I fiddle with where I include Sacrifice and where/whether or not I include any AoE or DoT abilities depending on the situation. The differences may be somewhat minor, but they do exist and they do matter.
  7. To expand on what Alg said - they're separate saves; you can import your (RS3) live save to the beta whenever you want, but you can't take what you do in beta and bring it back to the live game.
  8. I'd replace one Sf crew with another Exile, and possibly a M or C with another Merchant (you really want a merchant on every voyage, other than scroll/non-resource story).
  9. Could just be outfits for a TH/SGS promo... oooooor, could be something like the Gielinor Games (plz no).
  10. I really like that they're adding more for high level Herblore, and the idea of finding recipes in dg is kinda cool. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about the specific potions that includes, but nothing looks terrible at first glance. I'd worry that the lvl99 one is overpowered, but it's gonna be relatively difficult to make anyway, so... Given that forum post, I'm okay with the motherlode stuff. That may be a very sensible way to reduce the much-bemoaned RNG capriciousness of certain reqs, and that's a good thing. I would love a promise that TH will never offer motherlode shards or their unique rewards as prizes, but I doubt we'll get that. I think they should be balancing Agility as a skill that will be made more useful in the future, rather than as a skill that has little use other than another barrier-to-entry for max/comp capes right now... they may just be making it too easy to recover later if they make true improvements to the skill/they may hinder their ability to improve the skill by making it too easy to train now. However, I'll be glad to spend less clicking to train it. I really like the flavor of light creatures being involved in Agility! I find the moss stuff... intriguing...
  11. I think it's a bit too luck-based for that. If we have champ scrolls and court cases in, then there's no reason to keep Kal'gerion titles out.
  12. Maybe they finally fixed the Barbarian Assault defense role, so that the penance monsters won't run off after the wrong bait that is farther away.. From what I read elsewhere, it actually made it harder. That or people just haven't adapted to the change yet, which is also quite possible.
  13. I think you have to decide what your goals are and why those are your goals. If your goal is 200m all regardless of rank, then you're fine. If your goal is nth to 200m all, then you might not make that. Same goes for using/not using keys/spins/donations/whatever - you decide what you value and act accordingly.
  14. Guys, you do realize it's most effective to not feed the trolls, right? This forum has a block/ignore feature. It's handy. I encourage folks to use it as appropriate.
  15. I believe I read something about a feature in the works that would let you queue up for a minigame or other activity while still doing whatever else in Runescape, then get teleported to the activity on the same world as the others queued up for that game. Much like WoW's dungeon finder. I could be pulling that out of my dreams (don't ask), but I think I read that posted by a jmod somewhere.
  16. Except that ranged gets to use the best equipment in the game while having that feature, while magic has to use shitty elemental staves to get it (at best, staff of armadyl, but only for air spells). The staves that have a like 1/8 chance of not using runes =/= the cape that has like a 1/2 chance of not costing ammo.
  17. I'm quite certain that far less than 99% of Runescape players consider using TH/buying keys to be cheating.
  18. Ah, okay. What got reused for OoaK? I don't remember anything sticking out (other than the dungeoneering stuff, but that's a given because of the setting).
  19. If you consider it cheating, sure. That's the difference between the two camps - one group says (or at least implies) that it's cheating to use TH, and the other says or believes it isn't.
  20. A solid half the point of Runescape for me is setting goals and then achieving them. I generally don't find it a worthwhile use of my money to buy keys, but I don't have ill feelings towards those who do. It does get you to the end goal faster, and since that's part of the fun, it makes a great deal of sense.
  21. Personally I think the asset reuse in this quest was handled much better than they did it for Ooak. Yes it its perhaps noticeable it is based off the same map as Frenskae if you look at the maps side-by-side or have recently played that content, but overall its not an overwhelming sense of this is a copy it just feels a little similar. Plus unlike in Ooak it isn't just a straight up copy, they have used the same base for the map, but it has been modified - the paths and areas are not 100% identical and it has been entirely retextured. If this is how they reuse assets in the future to allow for quicker dev to a higher quality I would not mind at all; much better than straight up un-altered clones and if they had released this content a bit further away from Freneskae's launch it probably wouldn't even feel that similar until you saw the maps. Yeah, I had no idea until that reddit post pointed it out, and honestly I'm fine with it. Doesn't bother me a bit. One question: What's Ooak?
  22. Meh, standard Facebook giveaway promo. Unusual to see Jagex doing one, but whatever, it's relatively free advertising. I've never entered one of these things expecting to actually use the prize - that shit's going on Amazon.
  23. L0l0l03l05l430l0l You dont have to look at xp gains to know they were going to buy spins. its obvious the top page is so terrible atm. I don't think that makes the top page "terrible"; they're using the methods available to them to reach their goal faster. There's no way that no one would use TH and bxp, and so many others do just to keep up, as well as those who care little for the overall ranks and just want to reach their personal goal faster. I don't consider that to be a bad thing, lol.
  24. Yeah, I think they feel worked into a corner with tools currently, because the best ones are quite rare drops from a very specific set of monsters, and they don't know how to add the next tier without backsliding on the obtaining difficulty on one hand, or making them so incredibly impossible to obtain that they reach the same rarity/expense as seismics on the other hand. I think they have options, but I'm fine with them taking some time to work specifically on that instead of within the scope of a massive project like this. Nothing says they can't come back and add crystal pickaxe/hatchet to the city later, after all. I definitely want that div crater to be more like the painting and not that weird lime green like the rest of them all are; I've never liked the look of the div craters, save the original one for BoL. I love the soft clay mine! But I find it weird that they include three pottery wheels and no kiln...???
  25. I think they are both valid definitions of words that have several nuances of meaning. :P
