  1. Alright...and while this isn't exactly for the purpose of the topic, could someone fetch up a customized PC at HP.com just to tell me what kind of price estimate I'm looking at for a computer that can run things like Sims 3, GTAIV, WoW, etc.? Sorry for the off-topic-ic-ness, but I'm kind of hoping to not go over my original budget since I'm going to be spending a lot on accessories and such.
  2. Crap. If I get both the very shiny G19 and G5, I'm looking at $350 for just the accessories...(I kinda want the G5 ID thing if I'm getting the G5 mouse). But dang =/ That's a lot more than I was planning on spending. Any ideas on headsets while I'm at it?
  3. Hey guys. I'm considering getting the very sexy Logitech G15 Keyboard for my new PC setup later this year, and I wanted to know if anyone here's had experiences with it. I can't exactly say I love the orange backlighting, but the screen is pure epic win. In addition, if anyone here has it, what apps do you have for the LCD? Of course, this year, there's going to be a new keyboard in the series...the intimidating Logitech G19 Keyboard (with an actual, like...actual screen). I also need a mouse. I've been considering the Logitech G5, but that'd set me back another $100 just for accessories. Is it worth it? Are there other decent mouses out there (rechargeable if it's wireless please)? So guys, what do you think? Any experiences with any of this stuff? What should I choose? Any other recommended add-ons? Thanks -Skill
  4. The only problems I can think of right now are maybe that some of your CDs might be scratched, or there's something wrong with your CD drive. Try ripping (downloading) the CDs into another media player, such as Windows Media Player and compare the results. I also Googled around a bit and came up with this. Apparently, you're not alone with the issues. The guy in this thread says that Apple recommends you delete your entire iTunes Library (make sure you click "Keep File", not "Move to Recycle Bin") and then reimport all the songs back into your library from the iTunes Library folder located in your My Music folder.
  5. Wait, so you're saying this topic is purposely a fake? There is no armies skill?
  6. Seriously. Why the heck do you need a censor-bypassing link to direct me to a site? Honestly, it takes five times longer to go and set up that link than to just use Ctrl + X, Ctrl + V. Sorry for the hostility, but I've been tricked before and this seems like a pointless situation for that. I'm trying to get away from Dells. The computer I'm on right now is a Dell. It's on the Top 10 Worst PCs List because, just like all of the other Dell Dimensions, died 5 days (more or less) after the warranty went out. So, now, I have to have it on all the time or else it won't power back on. Not only that, but all of the other computers we own (which, of course, are Dells) all have some little defect of their own. =/
  7. http://[Website not allowed due to abuse].com/7c3ezz It's a forum, Tiny URLs aren't necessary =/ What's the original link?
  8. Ok. Well, what if I wanted some demanding games too, such as GTA or SL. Could someone point me the right direction still? :?
  9. Alright. Well, could someone point me in the right direction of purchasing such a PC then?
  10. Yea, I really wanted to avoid the 'build your own pc' path because it sounds just like a crapload full of headaches. Anyways, that looks kind of interesting, but are there any other suggestions?
  11. Hey guys (and, as stated in the title, I apoligize for yet another thread about purchasing a new computer). For a while, I've been looking to replace this (very) crappy Dell pc I have that was honored enough to be put on the 'Top 10 Worst PCs' list because of a manufacturer defect. Not only that, but it's just simply become to old to stand a chance in today's world of modern gaming specifications. I originally set my price goal at $1100 (which is a freaking lot of money...), but I stumbled upon this Acer Aspire X1200. I'm skeptical, but I've asked around, went to brand name computer sites; and apparently, it's a very good deal (the specs of a $1000 pc for half the price). Tell me what you guys think. Here are the specs: AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 5000+ Processor NVIDIA® GeForce® 8200 On-Board Graphics 4GB DDR2 Memory 320GB SATA II Hard Drive 16x DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM SuperMulti, Double-Layer Drive 14-in-One Media Card Reader Windows Vista® Premium 64 with SP1 The only concern my friends have pointed out is that the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 is on-board, not a PCI card. But basically, I want a PC that can easily run today's games (such as WoW, Spore, and the upcoming Sims 3). I really hate Vista, but it looks like I have no choice. Is the new Windows OS going to come out this year? I'd really rather not buy a Vista just to have it replaced in a little while. Thanks guys. -Skill
  12. Not sure how to fix the one-account problem, but here's how to resolve your logging in issue: Open the Control Panel. Switch to classic view if it's not set there already (you can set it back, but it's how I will explain this). Open User Accounts. Select "Change the Way Users Log On and Off". Check "Use the Welcome Screen." Click "Apply Options". You should be set.
  13. No, MSN Plus just places ugly codes into screen names/im conversations that is parsed when viewed by another client with MSN Plus. To those who don't have it, in my opinion, it looks like you choose your screen name by punching your keyboard. For the names, I believe it is alt-codes. I found a resource here (WoT Safety Card).
  14. To be honest, I'd rather have a lot of false positives than a lot of undetected positives. Third scan proved clean. Thanks for the quick help everyone!
  15. Sorry for the double post, but I think everything's clear. Haven't completed the next scan (therefore haven't gone to bed yet...), but I've been reviewing different free anti-virus solutions and I think I'm going to stick with Avast. As long as I turn the freaking stupid sound effects off, and get used to having a media player design on my virus scanner, I'll be ok. I mean, I was going through the Resident Shield and popped up the Internet Shield...it's currently actively scanning the album art on my Pandora station. While there is completly no need for that, it defiantly does let me rest assured that Avast is checking every nook and cranny (right as I visit websites) and that Avast provides decent protection if not the best there is for a free anti-virus. Thanks for the help guys. It's very, very, very much appreciated.
  16. Did a 'throughout' scan with Avast and it only found 1 type of malware (worm) with is apparently very old (like 1999). I'll tell you something, Avast sure lets you know if it discovers a virus with a nice, welcoming, completly expected blaring siren and "WARNING: VIRUS HAS BEEN DETECTED" vocal clip at 2am in the morning. I'm going to do another one of those deep scans overnight. When I wake up, if there's nothing detected, I'm just going to suck it up and (un)rest assured. I'll check out Avira tomorrow, because I'm with your personal preference. Avast is very, very great, but not in terms of user-friendliness (its interface design is supposed to be a media player). Thanks for all the help everyone. I'll still leave this as unsolved until I've confirmed everything is safe however.
  17. To be honest, I wouldn't say this is a disadvantage or bad thing. To allow for quick start-up as you said, some components of the pc must remain on, or in a not-fully-off state. To keep them from overheating, then fans simply cool them down. An example of this NOT in action is the Wii in WiiConnect24 mode. It stays half-way on, but there are no fans to cool down the half-way on components, which leads to overheating issues with the Wii. When you mention this just started now, it's possible that an update from Windows or your hardware manufacturer added this feature. What are you computer specs?
  18. I did the install/uninstall process. It looks like a media player...is it supposed to look like that? It's kind of odd. In fact, I'm not really sure about the entire interface yet. There's no direct way to access the 'media player gui' from the taskbar like you could in AVG, all you have is two icons, one with an I and one with an A. I dunno, is this good? Anyways, running a 'throughout' scan now. Wish me luck.
  19. It says if you register it you get a 1-year license. Oh well, I'll try it. And the internet connection isn't paranoid to me, that's exactly what I was planning to do.
  20. I'm going to try avast. I really hope it helps =/ I'm still freaked out. Your advice is very much appreciated. It's going to be hard, I've used AVG for a LONG time, but how should I switch? What do I install/uninstall first? EDIT: Wait. I thought avast! was free. It says it's free during the 60 day trial period...what gives?
  21. Exactly what you're looking for: http://www.random.org/lists/. Just randomize the list and you could say the first thing on the new randomized list is the picked option.
  22. Hey guys. I'm kind of frightened. Last night during a daily scan AVG Anti-Virus 8 Free picked up an internet worm called "Feebs.KI". I have no idea how I might of contracted it. I'm more cautious than your average PC user. I run Windows XP Home SP2, browse using Firefox 3 with WoT. For security protection I have AVG 8 Free, ZoneAlarm Firewall, Spybot Search and Destory, AdAware. That's about all I can think of. AVG rid of the worm, but the event is causing my paranoia levels to rise to unhealthy amounts. I don't go to unsafe sites (literally, I don't go to sites rated below the darkest green on WoT), I don't illegally download anything at all, so I don't know. Apparently in some of my Googling the worm has a rootkit function, which is really freaking me out, but not near as much as the fact it may send out confidential information...Please help. How can I be sure that my system is 100% clean? Thanks. -Skill More Info: The worm was detected 4 times, each in a .zip folder containing the Royale Vista theme.
  23. Because he knows that the 360 wireless adapter is garbage, but sometimes, when you do not have a long ethernet cord, the damn thing is a must. Seconded, I have the same exact situation. It's overpriced as heck and doesn't work worth crap, but it's the only way I can connect it. Honestly, if you can bridge it through your laptop, or buy another router, do that instead of the wireless adapter.
  24. I know it's a long journey to 99, but I have a question. I've heard the fastest way to train fishing is to fly fish. However, there are two efficient spots to fly fish; Shilo Village, and the west of Fishing Guild/sell to Roaloso method. Both are claimed to be more quick than the other. So, which one is the fastest? I don't want a profit, just the fastest possible experience. Thanks! -Skill EDIT: This is my 777th post! Bungie would be proud! =D
  25. Friends (the TV series)? Anyways, wow, he's only 30. For some reason I imagined him much older.
