  1. If it was to be 50 it would make it about 3,000 times overpriced and 10 times over researched. But maybe it was 500,000 or something the. Retech, once ZPMs are finished they wil have been researched for 100 years, around 120 including neccessary techs made before it and near 150 including the wait for results on tests. So what exactly in Watts is a powerplant? Saying my car takes the power of 500 fires to go wouldn't help you figure anything out, a power plant can produce any small amount.
  2. Urine is more sanitary that saliva, if I remember right. Don't worry yourself about it.
  3. Can everyone say what state they control, and what color it is on the map? We can make a list. I control Brazil, Gray on the map. EDIT: Don't worry Ross, I think all the land will be player controlled, and since we all start evenly then I don't think expansionists will be an issue.
  4. It will take more energy to digest than what you will get back. You will actually waste energy doing that.
  5. You could say you have a clockwork plane. They can only fly a short distance (20 miles) before needing to be rewound with a ground based rewinding station or something.
  6. Can we set the limit on technology to maybe... 1940/50's? Or something like that. Ok, so here's the situation of my nation right now: Fighting the US? Mostly underground, with some coastal cities. Best mining technology One unique technology we have is a precursor to the geothermal one. A good amount of our energy is gotten from the earth, though not the extent of the 80 year research one. The state of our cities is good, the only problem is war, I guess.
  7. Because revolver crossbows used by van helsing with depleted uranium bolts are found at your local gun shop.
  8. Because cutting through the spine and neck is difficult? Hitting a target the size of a head with a bow at maybe 30 feet may not be the most difficult thing in the world, but try hitting that same target when it's walking towards you, along with it's 20 friends, and it wants to eat you. Ok, that was also a bad choice of guns. P90? Why would you even want that? Sure, it has a large magazine, but other than that it has no redeeming features. Low range, low accuracy, and full auto. Then an auto shotgun? That's ok in of itself, I assume you mean semi auto though. But then why would you use slugs? That defeats the whole purpose of a shotgun, and it makes the ammo even heavier. M16 is a... decent choice. But why the a2? That's an unreliable rifle compared to later models, you'd be better off with the a4 at least. Then a Desert Eagle... Terrible recoil, Small magazine size, rarer ammo. That gun is for sports shooting mainly. You'd be better of with a m1911 any day.
  9. [sarcasm] Yeah, since spears, javelins, pikes, poleblades, etc. have never worked. [/sarcasm] Javelins are throwing weapons. But in most cases those wouldn't be effective for zombie killing, because you have to pierce the skull. Just because something is good for killing people doesn't mean it's also good for kill zombies. Bows and Arrows, for example. were used for millennia for killing people, but killing zombies with arrows is ineffective. Shooting someone in a vital organ and leaving them to bleed out is way easier than piercing the skull. With a halberd or whatever you might be able to hack off a good part of an arm, but actually piercing the skull would be rather difficult, especially at medium range. In any case, I decided if I could pick any four guns they would be the following: A semi-auto rifle (with 20 round mags). .45 acp would be good. A semi-auto pistol, that takes the same ammo as the rifle. A "sniper rifle". One that takes .308 would be good, since it's common. Then, a revolver. .357 or .32 would be good. Preferably one with 8 shots The semi auto rifle would be my normal weapon, then I would have the pistol and revolver. Why two sidearms? The semi auto would be the one I use normally, but all magazine fed guns have the chance of jamming, whereas a revolver will basically never, ever not shoot when you pull the trigger. The sniper rifle is for when I'm trying to take out zombies at any range. I wouldn't carry it around with me though, usually.
  10. Here's my history: In 1584 a group of Portuguese colonists ship was smashed into the coast of Brazil during an ungodly storm. Only a dozen of the original crew of 89 managed to make it to shore, and those twelve were battered and tired. They took shelter in a cave, managing to keep warm through the night. The next morning, they came out of their refuge and looked around for any trace of any other survivors. Instead, they discovered something strange, frightening. They heard a ticking, whirring sound coming from the back of the cave they had slept in. They found a large, brass door with a lever in front of it. They were initially confused about why they hadnt noticed it previously, but their confusion gave way to curiosity. One of the brave explorers cautiously pulled the lever, and a massive rumbling sound was heard behind the door. Steam seeped through, and the door slid open to reveal an intricate second door, covered in rapidly moving gears and gauges. A few moments later, this second door opened, to revel something even more shocking: An entire city, underground. Strangely, the architecture closely resembled that of Europe, perhaps by coincidence, though the city itself had a very alien and foreign feel to the Portuguese. The enormous cavern the city was located in was lit by strange bulbs covering the entire cavern ceiling. In the center of the city was a massive drill, boring ever deeper into the ground, with thousands of carts carrying raw materials away to various locations. The Portuguese were soon spotted by a city worker. The Portuguese had been educated in the language of the few indigenous tribes(above ground) that previous colonists had found, and these underground-dwelling people spoke the same dialect. They learned that this city was just one of many, a network of the cities stretched across much of the continent. The Portuguese eventually left the city, and were able to find a small colony of European settlers a few miles away. When they told their story, they were ridiculed, so over time they forgot about it, and passed it off as a bad dream induced by stress and fatigue. So, going a bit further about the people I control. We're a race of people that live underground, mostly. But, in recent decades cities have been constructed above ground, especially on the coast. The appearance of my people is essentially the same as modern day Brazilians. Now it's about 300 years after we were first discovered, and the European settlers developed a healthy fear of us, since my people began to think of the Europeans as invaders, and pushed them off of our land. The area we control is roughly the same as modern day Brazil, though the only above ground cities are along the coast. Strengths: Mining, Subterranean construction and fighting.
  11. Sere, that might be way too much land to start with... Germany, France, England and Italy? Those are all prime countries for people to take as their own, I don't think you should be allowed to start with all of them, only one. Oh, here's an amazing picture. http://wall.alphacoders.com/images/Sci%20Fi/Sci-Fi-Spaceship-41875.jpg

    Skiing/Boarding

Living in Vermont has like 2 upsides: Ben and Jerry's and Burton. I snowboard, just got my season tickets the other day. I love living like 10 minutes from the mountain.
  13. I'd rather have the continent be floating by steampunky means, like massive propellers or like blimps holding it up or something but whatever.
  14. Come to think of it, the only reason why that was possible was because there were no major world super powers actually playing. China wasn't playing through most of that time, and the USA exploded. Well, in this game you're right, we should try to start somewhat evenly, but I think we should all start pretty low, with problems like poverty and the like for us to fix, so that way each nation/empire develops it's own solutions and develops uniquely.
  15. Or atleast similar economics wise. I mean, in the old hegemony, some third world countries (or semi-third world) rose to the top, like you with Iran and me with Brazil.
  16. Well we went through the first 300 or so pages of hegemony without moderators, and that was like the best time of the game. War judges or whatever are fine.
  17. Actually, no you won't. Because what we're thinking of doing is having it in a world where NOTHING BUt STEAM POWER was invented, and it's semi-modern times. Oh and @ Rocco: f1
  18. Chill the [bleep] out. And it's not like we're ignoring physics, just that they're... laxer. And it's not that we have a genre, it's just the way the world turned out in this alternative history. Whereas now the world is mostly powered by petroleum, with ac/dc currents and all that, in this history it would be steam powered.
  19. The swastika was a symbol of good luck before the nazis. They weren't "bad" before the nazis started using it as a symbol. You see I'm sick of people saying that, it's a fact and it's not clever at all. Aswell as that I didn't even ask what the swastika was used for before, it is now commonly used as a sign of the Nazi party and the Hindu good luck symbol is still used but is not recognised as much. I said a 'Nazi flag' which Archimage has already told me is against forum rules. And I don't want to be forced to stick to a certian genre. Uh, hex, I was just saying that banning the use of swastikas is sort of illogical because of that. The Nazi Flag is just a swastika, pretty much, so that's what you were basically asking about. And that's your problem.
  20. I'd rather we stick with the steampunk theme. You can still research, but stuff has to be based off that. I agree, but since steampunk stuff is completely unrealistic... DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN FINALLY LIBERATE OURSELVES FROM THE NARROW MINDED PHYSICS??? I mean, we can self moderate so nothing would be overpowered. But this game would become a bit more fantasy-ish. Well, sort of. The most advanced tech we're probably gonna get is like giant floating cities, which wouldn't really work with physics, but its not like we're going to have any teleportation devices, FTL drives, space stuff really, and so on. Well, Nuclear Power in its current state is kinda powered by steam, but we can just ignore that.

  23. So could we all agree on steampunk/victorian? Here's a list of what things might look like: Submarines: http://mateengreenway.com/steampunk/SUB_4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/bananaphone5000/GORILLLAS/VMST9.jpg Boats: http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/io9/2009/10/Steampunk_Concept_Art_No_1_by_CreepyBlueStorm.jpg http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/images/Jasper_Morello_-Crew_navigating_in_skiff.jpg http://pinlac.com/images/JabbaSteampunkBarge.jpg Helicopters: http://beartechgroup.com/copter.jpg http://www.warcraftmounts.com/images/mounts/gyrocopter_01.jpg Airships: The ones I posted above^ http://media.moddb.com/images/members/1/338/337731/Steam20zeppelin20by20CavaetScoti.jpg Tanks: http://www.selwg.com/steam-tank.jpg http://wow.incgamers.com/w/images/5/55/Steamtank.gif I'll add more later.
  24. Heres an airship for the chinese/korean/whatever I'd rather not have airplanes, just airships or da vinci type helicopters. We can still have guns and all, but I think having a theme (Victorian/Da-vincan) would really make this game.
  25. This way you have mroe control over your country though. In original Hegemony, superpowers were decided by IRL country standings. Now it's more up to the player. Yeah, but still, it was nice to be able to just look stuff up. I like the idea of some form of PP, as long as it's simple and we use it from the start. That makes it way less confusing, and maybe we can all start with like the same number of production facilities. I'll write up a history for Brazil soon. Actually, you know what would be cool? Sort of make this a steampunk/victorian setting. Instead of planes we have like gyrocopters or whatever, and hot air balloons. Just a suggestion. EDIT: I also really like blimps/airships, they're just kinda cool. I'd rather have this be like if technology took a different direction, and everything stayed sort of steam powered and the like. Look up steampunk stuff if you don't know what I'm talking about.
