Best Way to Clean My Mouse?

My mouse is being very unpredictable at the moment, it keeps lagging as well as stopping in places. I am assuming this is because it is unclean. I have tried blowing out the dust and also cleaning the ball but it only helps temporarily.

Any suggestions?

Your mouse has a ball stuck inside it? Well, there's your first problem.... :?

Haha you are funny. Either contribute to my problem constructively or don't post at all.

Errdoth, I am saving up for my summer holiday at the moment so I can't afford to splash out on fancy laser mouses.

I find that tweezers are good for plucking out the junk that sticks to the ball rollers.

Clean the ball and rollers with a cotton swab and a light amount of rubbing alcohol (don't drown the mouse in it :P) after picking out the big chunks of gunk with tweezers or some other small tool. It would also be a good idea to clean the desk and/or mouse pad so the mouse doesn't have any loose particles to pick up any more.

Getting a good optical (not some cheap $10 optical) would be a good idea when you find the money, no more cleaning trackballs.

I always used to clean the rollers inside (through the ball access), usually by licking the corner of my handkerchief and using that to wipe side to side and spinwise on each roller and the idler - a tissue would probably be better.

Mind you, the replacement doesn't need to be an expensive laser, basic opticals are now cheaper than ball mice, and I've yet to find a cheap optical that isn't at least as good as the best ball mouse.

if you unplug the mouse, you can dip it in almost any non- corrosive solution and it will be fine, as long as you remember to dry it before you plug it in. That should work, but If i were you, 20$ will get you a nice optical mouse. nothing fancy, but it will work better then any ball mouse.

fancy laser mouses.

You can get a wired MS optical mouse for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã5, or probably $5 in the US (since all too often you pay the same number of dollars for something as we do pounds).

A new optical mouse won't set you back very much money but if you'd rather spend your cash on something else there's bound to be life left in old rolly for a little while yet.

Sounds like dirty rollers, as you move the mouse around your desk / mouse mat, tiny bits of dirt get picked up on the ball and transferred to the rollers, where they accumulate and make the mouse move unevenly.

Take the ball out, and you should see two rollers. If they're dirty they'll have a big buildup of gunk usually centred around the middle of the roller. Pick it off with anything you like (I've used tweezers, fingernails, screwdrivers etc) then give it a bit of a wipe over with a damp cloth or similar, re-ball your mouse and you're set to go.

Is rubbing alcohol also a disinfectant?

Anyways, the mouse and keyboard set I have came to a whopping 13 dollars combined, so I don't imagine my mouse is worth all that much. I could just buy a new one.

Laser mice: 4.90$ at your local computer store.

Where are you planning on going for your holiday, burger king?

Thanks guys for all your help, I had no idea laser mice were so cheap. I was expecting to have to pay upwards of ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30. Got me a very swish one for quite a cheap price. ::'
