Delete inactive accounts

So what exactly happens to famous players (ignoring zuomimiez suggestion) who stop playing or tragically die. They're account remain inactive. Then in five years' time the account gets deleted, name opens up. Some player who for some reason or another discovers this. They right away create a new account with that player's name. Then they can go around and everyone that recognizes them as the famous player (If they were that famous to last five years) go "Omg, _______! I thought you ****ing died!". I do however in a way support this (However not pledging support) because as an idiot, I got hacked and lost my favourite account, Yofreddie (If anyone sees him/her, please flame to heart's content) to the old "Jagex blocks your pass, look!********!". That however is an extremely weak arguement since I lost my account to a simple and obvious scam that I could ahve easily prevented. In other words, this is a general bad idea.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

jagex dont re use banned acct names for a good reason

what if they r proven innocent? and osme1 has taken then name, they cant b un banned

they also keep banned accts "existing" as evidence or something

a j mod sed that on the official forums

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

I dont think anyone who has reached 1000 total should ever be deleted.

I think a one hour or twelve hout limit or whatever is best. If youve just lvled up your account for a bit, like the normal player this should have no effect on you.

This is just for the people who make accounts just for the names, and never to play on it.

Some people should read the topic, or at least the initial post before they make replies, this is annoying.

Oh and Im also in favor that names of banned accounts cant be re-used, such as famous merchanters or bug abusers.

I would support this suggestion, if things were tweeked a bit (and before you start flaming me, yes, I did read the entire thread). One hour of play, very short. 12 hours of playing, still pretty short. The problem with NOT deleting an account that is on the high scores? It may not always be on the high scores.

Let's say player name "Joseph" is 70 woodcutting and 65 fletching, and hasn't leveled any other stat even once. A pure in most every sense of the word, except that they hace leveled two stats. Now Joseph is ranked 750,000 in the woodcutting high scores, and 623,000 in the fletching high scores. Now, the user stops playing for 2 years while he/she goes off to college, only to find out that when they try to log on 2 years later, their password has been changed... Well how could that be? They check for the name Joseph in the high scores, and find that they now have 80 attack. Did they get hacked? Nope. Then what happened to their account? They didn't log in for 1.5 years. But they were on the high scores??? Why did they get deleted? Because in that time, a whole bunch of players that WERE playing, passed them in the rankings, thus shoving them off the high scores list. Now their account can be deleted.

Deleting accounts also holds true to any email account. For user privacy and confidentiality, once a user stops using an email account, that name can never be used by anybody else, unless they have the login information.

Yes I agree with the suggestion in theory, but in application, I can't support. I tried to create an account the other day, with a name that I thought for sure would never have been used, but sure enough, already gone. Was I dissapointed? Sure I was. But all I had to do was make it a little different (didn't even have to use numbers), and voila, a new user with a cool name (at least I think so). All you have to do is show a little ingenuity, and instead of Zebulun234, you can have Zebzara. With 26 letters in the alphabet, and the ability to use 12 or more characters in a name, there are pretty much unlimited names available. Find a cooler one by switching it up.

But an account you ever wish to log on again, youve at least played like 12 hours on it before it's worth it to get back.

About that emailing list, you are right, it wouldnt be nice if names of banned people would be reused who were well known, but account who are used for less then 12 or 1 or whatever hours you havent got a real identity with it, you are not known at all, and unless you have a main you wont have much friends made.

The time limit is not so important I think, if somebody only played on their account for so short, theyll likely make a new account and forgot about the other. But maybe 3 months? I dont know.

Anyway about the time limits, it might be best to let jagex decide, just talk about the idea itself, even if the limit would be 10 years+ and time played for immunity less then 5 minutes (excuse me if Im not clear here)

Had another idea, member account cannot be deleted because if it was you would've used up REAL LIFE MONEY.

Maybe if you've been a member for 3 months you cannot be deleted, ever. Or maybe just a month, or maybe just subscribing.

I dont like this idea.

but...

i do agree that having a number on the end of a name can ruin the name itself...like my mate.

his char name is nunwithagun2, without the 2 tht name would have been kikass.

I have no problem with my name... (boris5000) \'

I find the "5000" put the ool in cool in my name ::' . It will just be bland if it was boris.

My logic: Put a big number at the end of your name... But i don't want to see any 5000's

A 4 digit number is nice enough but don't over do the 4 digits, if it was like 5432, five thousand four hundred and thirty two, its just a mouth full.

And the number 50000 is also long... I think the number i chose is good enough because its short and sweet ::'

Not like me though, in real life <.< :XD:

EDIT: may have gone a bit off-topic
