Wouldn't you like some recognition?

Featured Replies

I recently sent the following message to Jagex on the topic of player recognition.

If Jagex uses someone's idea off the suggestions forum, or anywhere, the player should get some recognition for it, right?

I'm just posting this as a though to see what most other people would think.

So, would you want some recognition?

A couple of months ago I posted a suggestions forum up about a problem with the ring of forging. The idea was that if you examined the ring you could see how many charges were left. The thread ended up getting a good 500 posts before getting lost to the mysterious page 51.

No more then 2 weeks later, I read the new update to see that Jagex actualy considered my idea, except that they made it so you would stop smithing when the ring stattered. Now recently, maybe a few months ago, many of you will remember that they finaly made my idea a reality. You could now view how many charges the ring left by operating it.

I was excited that they actualy considered and used my idea but I was kind of dissapointed that they did not give me any recognition for it,

so I wondered if many others might have wanted their chance in the spotlight too.

Skillcapes started as a player idea and now they are one of the most respected updated out there today. How do you think the person that thought this idea feels that no one knows he is the one that made it happen.

So what are your thoughts on all this?

Also, I would like to remind everyone that this is a Discussion thread NOT a Suggestions thread. You can flame the idea of player recognition all you want but don't flame me.

Definitly, I think jagex likes flogging players ideas off as there own tbh :shame:

If I could suggest things (But I can't because I'm F2P ) I'd like some recognition too. But on the downside I could get thousands of PMs from people saying "I love your idea" or "Why did you change it, it was better the way before" (Like most players do when an update comes out, complain.)

And another reason why they won't say it was you because somebody could lie and say that they suggested it first and that you are a liar.

I'm sure they could just see who started the thread in suggestions.

It would be nice but not expected. Jagex doesn't ever name anyone publically in announcements anymore. Famous players have died and they don't make a news announcement, although they did in their past.

I think the main reason they do this, is because it's not always one person who suggests an idea. If they were to thank one person, people would miss out and claim they suggested it etc.

You don't need public recognition. If it was your idea, you should feel good that it was taken into consideration. You don't need your name stated to make you feel good about it.

I think this is a great idea i mean of course if someone comes up with an idea that jagex uses then ya they're gona want credit especially if its a big idea like the skill capes

You make a good point there but...Hmm...

Jagex could always recognize the person they first saw the idea with...

Either way there is always going to be complainers and Want-to-be's but...Hey...What can ya do?

If you want recognition write your own damn game.

Thats dumb I mean seriously

in the game when you examine the ring of forging

do you want it to say

"The ring has 51 charges left" thanks to arch tyrant for that suggestion!

No, you got what you suggested and now you want more than that?

Not how it works.

Plus itd just start flame wars and people fighting

for example:

Z0mg 1 c4m3 up wif dat id34 1 4h0uld g3t cr3d1t n0t th4t n0ob!!1

He doesn't mean whenever you examine it. Just like when an update comes and down the bottom it says and in other news they could say 'the ring of forging has been updated say that etc---thanks to Arch tyrant for suggesting it...

But many things that are implemented by Jagex are player made suggestions and they haven't given credit because...well, you know...like its Jagex's game and their ideas etc

Yeh but that wouldn't stop the Rants Forum going off with some one saying they thought of it first.

I'm pretty sure with most suggestions Jagex were already going to do it themselves anyway.

For this such as improvements (As in this case) It'd be VERY stupid to give credit to people.

But for things like new mini-games, skills and whatnot then maybe if the idea was VERY unique then It'd be right to give credit.

Well they have their policy of not naming players without their permission, and that would complicate things since they'd have to contact the player and wait for that player to find the message and then respond, which could take a long time. I think you get the picture. There could be ways around this though...

Indeed. But on the other hand, one idea may have been the brainstorm of several players. One posted it once, another 2 days later, etc so it still wouldnt be fair to credit just one person when maybe more had the idea

That right there is probably why. I mean I get bugged enough for people seeing my name on tip.it. I couldn't imagine if Jagex regonized someone..especially if people liked it pre-change.

35b9enp.jpg

With all the people who moan and whine over every single update do you really want your name plastered all over it?

well maybe if your idea is really special or something it would be nice if they gave you some credit for it. But as soon as you post it on their suggestions forums it's up to them to freely add it to the game or not without crediting anyone. And especially the idea of adding the amount of uses left on a forging ring has been thought of by many players and probably even jagex themselves, it's like that with almost every ring so they would've added that sometime.

So yeah, on some really good ideas really coming solely of one player it would be nice to give some credit, but that's up to jagex to decide.

Count yourself lucky they're using your idea. Firstly people complain that they're not using player feedback, now that they do, people complain. They can't win really.
