April 29, 200719 yr i don't think jagex should do any more to protect the lazy, stuped, ect. if they r so stuped they go to great langths to give someone there password they diserve to lose there stuff be yourself because you suck at being that guy
April 29, 200719 yr I totally agree with the editor. The ditch is a waste of time. Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz. Yep I'm a Magic Black. BUt when I used to play magic I was always blue.
April 29, 200719 yr Many people have been griping for a long time that jagex needed to fix the problems in game rather than keep pumping out more and more updates well the start working to fix problems that people have been gripping about for ages and what to they get for their troubles more gripping because it wasn't fixed the "right" way. To make my point a bit better from Tip.it Times Rule 2 Revised 30-Mar-2007 "It seems from the thread on the Jagex forums, that there are a lot of people with the attitude "Tough. Life's hard. Get over it." when it comes to cheating or scamming in game. They and I are going to have to agree to disagree. I have yet to come across a situation where cheating, or deceiving someone for one's own gain is right. I'm not talking the little white lies that are part of the lubricant of society: "No honey, that outfit doesn't make you look fat", "No really, it's delicious ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ it's just that I'm not very hungry right now". Those sorts of little white lies rarely do any harm. While I can appreciate that in a game where thieving is a skill in its own right, it might be hard for some people to understand why stealing from other players is wrong, it is wrong, and one must learn to distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate targets for one's thieving skills." OK so now lifes not so hard and there are things out there to help protect people. But oh well. make up your minds do you want people protected or do you want it anything goes. lonew0lf I miss you Justice my angel on earth and now in heaven " quem di diligunt, adolescens moritur " for whom the gods love die young. April 29, 200719 yr yea its very annoying i agree, but atleast the ditch in your siggy makes a ton of sense now, other than the fact that they edge of the wilderness isnt that close to the rune ore lol The sentence below is false. The sentence above is true.
April 29, 200719 yr Personally I think the ditch is ugly, a moat filled with water would have been much more ascetically (Did I spell that right?) pleasing. Or a ditch filled with bones, skeletons etc. And yes ascetically is right.
April 30, 200719 yr Ditch is fine... =] 99 Cooking. [DONE 24/12/07] Quest Cape. [DONE] 99 Fletching. [DONE]
April 30, 200719 yr Personally I think the ditch is ugly, a moat filled with water would have been much more ascetically (Did I spell that right?) pleasing. Or a ditch filled with bones, skeletons etc. And yes ascetically is right. 'Ascetically' is spelled correctly, but I do believe the word he's looking for is 'aesthetically' (or alternatively, 'esthetically'). Ascetic is simple and without indulgence, aesthetic/esthetic is pretty and in good taste.
April 30, 200719 yr I say the wilderness ditch should be more of a garden, with lots of little flowers, and trails of gp leading deep into the wilderness where they will meet the business end of my dds. Yep, that's how it should be. And maybe they can have signs that say "Go further in for money and candy," rather then "Beware." Now wouldn't that be better? But seriously, Jagex is pampering the noobs. They get all that they want, when they want. If they lose an item, no problem, just ask a tutor. If they get stuck on a quest, no problem, just use the "Quest Help." If they're about to be scammed, no problem, a little robot will pop up yelling, "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!" Let the noobs learn the hard way what we did. You can't get by in Runescape without a little bit of trouble, a little bit of brains, and a little bit of help from your friends, oh, I get by with a little help from my friends. All this help is also ruining the community aspect of Runescape. A long long time ago, I had to ask three people about the "Cook's Assistant" Quest, two of them were my first, and oldest, friends. So Jagex, stop pampering the newbs, and let them (or force them to) stop being little children. It is impossible to exaggerate the unimportance of almost everything.
April 30, 200719 yr I like the whole theme of this article, and the moral you're supposed to take from it, but I must say one thing that irks me about the way you have proposed this topic is the way you have written it. You include a lot of information that is not needed, repetitive and it seems to me that some of the things you say are to get a laugh, rather than to prove your point. The article is supposed to inform and/or persuade, and for the most part, it does; but leave out passages such as the dog drinking from the toilet, the person hurting your feelings by calling you a n00b and the beer bit. It tells me that you're not here to make me believe what you believe, but rather to entertain me. This should not be your focus. I think you're under the impression that putting humorous lines into this article will get the reader to like the article more, but to those of us who understand how to properly persuade and/or inform a person or persons, this really is a mundane read. 8/10 on topic choice. 5/10 on composition. I must assume from this post that you have never once picked up a newspaper and read the Editorials section? I am sick of seeing complaints and rants in the comments like yours. The Times is not a news article, nor is it a college paper. It is an Editorial, an OPINION piece meant to entertain as well as inform. If you dislike the writing style so much, subscribe to the Globe and Mail - don't read something someone has volunteered their time to write and post on a site that someone else has paid for and provided to you free of charge, and then tell them they aren't up to your intellectual standards. So, basically, what you're saying is that just because this is a video game help site that we should lower our intellectual standards to that of the stereotypical "video game community?" You're degrading yourself and the entirety of the Tip It Times with that statement. Going on your train of thought, I suppose all children in elementary school should act like infants and ones in High School should only be concerned with nothing than immature topics such as drugs and sex. While we're at it, lets assume it's ok to party and act like a fool in college, because that's what "college kids" do. You are a good example of why the community as a whole hasn't matured intellectually. You make it seem alright to dumb yourself down, or lower your standards because you're in a place where it's ok to not have the dignity in yourself to set better standards for yourself. This article simply did not do what it was declared (by implication) to do. Pardon me for not letting it slip by because we're in a video game community, but it just didn't. |2,300+ Total|138 Combat|12 Lvl 99 Skills|99 Slayer|
April 30, 200719 yr In my humble opinion Jagex has released 2 extremely good additions to our game. I have been playing the game for 5 years. In that time I have been scammed twice. The most recent was mage logs changed to willows before the second trade window. I lost about 1mil. The other one was the infamous password scam. I said my password in a sentence and lost my account (got it back a week of begging Jagex later lol) that was 3 years ago. I didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t lose much, maybe 500k all up. Small change now but as an lvl 50 who had just bought his first rune plate it was a lot. Both of these scams have since been fixed. Too late for me to learn my lesson I must add but at the end of the day I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m glad the changes have been made. Getting back on topic regarding the ditch of stupidity I would have to say it is a great idea that simply looks like it was rushed to be released. I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t think anybody has mentioned it but it severely cuts into wildy lvl 1, lvl 1 is only about 5 squares in length. I think a re edit to change its appearance is in order. But the idea is not a flawed one. It doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t affect anybodies player killing. As the ditch is actually outside of the wilderness. It just gives a definite boundary to the wildy. I will admit Jagex seems to be aiming there marketing to the lower levels at the moment but stick with them. I just wish I had this much help when I started all those years ago. You may think the new players are getting spoon fed the game. But as a baby were you tucking into a medium rare steak. Or getting a spoonful of banana mush off a parent/guardian. Ps. This tip.it times was so good it forced me to join the forums to post my own opinion. April 30, 200719 yr well, i really don't think the whole ditch thing is a big deal, or the password thing. there's only ONE problem I have. the only picture-making program i know how to use is paint, and I could make the ditch look better than that! Don't think you realised but alot of RuneScape was hade in apint  :wall: =D> Look at the RuneScape world map, It's ssssssssooooooooooooooo paint. Some items(inv. pic) are made in paint, Infact some parts of the game are made in paint. This article simply did not do what it was declared (by implication) to do. Pardon me for not letting it slip by because we're in a video game community, but it just didn't. Well, I suppose from the viewpoint of an intellectually challenged video game player, I really don't see the need to have anything but light, entertaining reading. This is not a newspaper and I don't read the Tip.It Times because I want a serious article. I also don't require that an opinion piece convince me of anything, it's enough that the person has taken the time to "put it out there". Remember, this is not a debate but a volunteer operated "column". I also must say I find it amusing that I apparently have no standards nor dignity in myself simply because I don't think it necessary to eliminate the entertainment in the Times. That you would consider me a good example of the lack of maturity of most players, certainly since I have never spoken to you in game, is laughable and your implication that the Editor him/herself is nothing but a drooling moron is rather unpleasant. Lastly, where is the implication that the Times is anything but the authors opinion and that there is any requirement to follow any standards but those the Tip.It crew decide on? It seems to me that the vast majority of readers thus far have had no trouble understanding the authors point and many have enjoyed the humor included in the article. May 1, 200719 yr I agree that the universe will always find a way to dig up a person stupider than the next, however, you yourself mentioned that a child usually gets told more than once that it should not do certain things, they may listen sometimes and i believe that these stupid people deserve the same chance, don't you? I have never been hacked and take many precautions myself, but in reality all it takes is one update in runescape that you missed out on, and the game may have changed completly, for example i was away the time that dragon legs were released so when i got back from holidays, logged on i start seeing people with dragon legs, now i didn't have a clue what was going on. You can see that it only takes the slightest slip up and a scammer can take advantage of that, so really you may blame the lazy, greedy and stupid people but you must think of them as children and they just need a little more guidance before they learn their lesson (hopefully without touching that stove ) -= weasel =- rsname: moosewalker ~ top 10000 player :Dfull qp - always willing to chat add me...

WOAH DUDE. is it really worth pissing people off and insulting people to make that point? Yes, there is a good reason why they did it (put the ditch there) and its true that it doesnt inconvience anyone for more than a second, but the point that i think people are really trying to make here is that Jagex didnt put enough effort into solving the problem. even though the ditch is by no means idiot proof, it does help. we all just think (at least i think) that the ditch, as it is, is ugly and doesnt go well with the rest of the game. Something needs to be done, and i feel that the aim of (most of) the contributors was to make suggestions and to entertain themselves with the (percieved) stupidity of the noobs that brought it about. i think we all just found out who really doesnt care for other peoples' feelings... Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.
May 1, 200719 yr This week's Tip.It Times has been released. Feel free to discuss the article or post any comments. If you have any criticism, please make sure it's constructive! :D The Ditch of Stupidity The Editor You̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve probably seen it, running across the edge of the wilderness, looking for all the world as if Bob the Builder had gone nuts with his bulldozer. It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a ditch. It separates the wilderness, where anything goes, from the more civilised parts of the RuneScape world. May 2, 200719 yr how about a moat filled with alligators? and make it not a straight line across the world. make it zig-zag a little Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.

First of all, you have to learn how to post on the forums. No one CARES for being insulted, and you are clearly insulting everyone who disagrees with your "point". Now to move on to your "point" Moving on from the fact that Jagex sometimes makes pointless updates, you are one of those types of people who don't LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES. You made the fatal mistake of trading by the wilderness with valuables, whatever they were. The first time you make a mistake is somewhat acceptable, even the smartest of us make mistakes. But to go a second time, after falling to the trick before? ITS YOUR FAULT that you got scammed the second time. -When I became a member, I went into the edgeville wilderness with full rune (g) and other valuables to kill chaos druids. I thought I was an amazing and undefeatable player, and then I was 4 hit by a mage. Lost over 1,2m. Did I ever do the same thing or something of the kind again? No. -Whip scammed by a high level, thought I could trust them. Did I ever again accept an offer too good to be true? No. Intelligent people learn from their mistakes, those that do not do so, never get anywhere.
May 2, 200719 yr OMG it is so true, My gf and I were laughing all the way through the article and we've been saying it all along. I'm just glad some1 had the nerve to put it in writing :D
May 2, 200719 yr Intelligent people learn from their mistakes, those that do not do so, never get anywhere. Mexay is probably not one of those more intelligent people.. edit: srry: that was way off-topic Never tell people how to do things.
