April 28, 200719 yr I think that the ditch should be filled with lava, and not be in such a straight line. It would also mean you could have a lot of steam where the river and lave meat. Maybe that would be hard to render actually. Why has this article attracted som many looooong posts I wonder? They are rather daunting to read :(
April 28, 200719 yr i agree, y do the noobs of "today" need this anti idiot help, those of us who played rsc, what did we get but a nice littel message telling us where entering the wildly, i learnt the hard way as u said, dont go in the wildly numbskull, lost my first ever r2h which i had worked for for about 2 weeks getting the money. after that i dotn go in unless i know i can make the money back, or i wont go. as many others think, jagex is "babying" noobs 2 much, spoils the fun u have when u start, its what made me stay for 6 years...
April 28, 200719 yr I wondered up to the "ditch" today and had to rub my eyes to make sure i wasn't seeing things. It looks more like an old (very small) stream that has dried up. I imagined the ditch to look like this: ___////////////////________ ////\ //////////////// /////\/////////////// //////\///////////// ///////\______/ Instead it looks more like this: _____///________ /////////\/ Pathetic excuse for a ditch. (I realise some people will have to use their imagination to see it because of the board style they use, but i'm sure you get the general idea)
April 28, 200719 yr Thanks for those diagrams : By the way i'm pretty sure the puppie is smarter than a good percent of the RuneScape population. The puppie knows not to do it again, but it's funny to see people getting lured twice. The first time I have a little sympathy, but the second i'll just die laughing. Quit RuneScape :)
April 28, 200719 yr i 100% agree with the editor. new players may fall for scams and get lured into wilderness, but unless you learn people will always expect there to be a saftey measure. and to be honest it has been obvious wheneer you go near the wilderness... the whole skull and cross bones and then the wilderness marker at the bottom of your screen. people will always find a way to die messily and lose their stuff but if you don't learn, then like everyone has said, they will much later and lose stuff that took a lot longer to get. the scam for trading by the wildrness doesn't even make much sense, why bother making deals near where you can get killed? let alone where they can drag you into the wilderness. if you had to trade at edgeville why not stay by the bank?
April 28, 200719 yr Uh, you do know that the main reason the ditch was put in place was because of the people doing the trading, running into wildy trick, and people following others into the wild not knowing; not because people's stupidity or anything of the liking... #-o You guys should really be sure you know what your talking about when writing articles. :wall: The editor *LOVES* to complain if you read the past articles.... guess he/she was running out of stuff to complain about But complaining is human nature...
April 28, 200719 yr hello, im the universe's latest version of the idiot, come to the wildy and look at my pretty phat good read  Fight Club, Invisible Monsters, Choke.
April 28, 200719 yr I hate the new ditch, it slows me down when I'm RC'ing through the Abyss, it looks horrible, and when I first signed into my pure, I was stuck in the ditch. (I just had to click "jump over ditch" to get out) But it does beat being lured. :XD: I actually find rcing faster now, you have to jump over a lot of space and it only takes about the time that it would take to run over it, but u dont use any energy. and yea, you can still be lured, but only the stupid ones. I'm glad you cant be following someone in engvile bank and then lag, and then when you log back on your dead in lumbie. Whats your average lv? viewtopic.php?t=615571&start=0&pos
April 28, 200719 yr why would Jagex waste it's time on something as useless as a ditch, and not even make it look kinda cool? personally, i think jagex should stop wasting their time on the noobs, and focus on cooler stuff, like, as i have suggested on rs forums, an armory for the POH
April 28, 200719 yr nice 8-) its really ironic how they are idiot proofing the game but not fixing serious bugs...prayer still is crappy...and there are ways to trick the trade system..id like to see a trade system like some games where its basically a forum market. you put up the item and how much it will sell for and if someone wants to buy it they pay the money. alot better imo. April 29, 200719 yr I like the whole theme of this article, and the moral you're supposed to take from it, but I must say one thing that irks me about the way you have proposed this topic is the way you have written it. You include a lot of information that is not needed, repetitive and it seems to me that some of the things you say are to get a laugh, rather than to prove your point. The article is supposed to inform and/or persuade, and for the most part, it does; but leave out passages such as the dog drinking from the toilet, the person hurting your feelings by calling you a n00b and the beer bit. It tells me that you're not here to make me believe what you believe, but rather to entertain me. This should not be your focus. I think you're under the impression that putting humorous lines into this article will get the reader to like the article more, but to those of us who understand how to properly persuade and/or inform a person or persons, this really is a mundane read. 8/10 on topic choice. 5/10 on composition. |2,300+ Total|138 Combat|12 Lvl 99 Skills|99 Slayer|

April 29, 200719 yr At the moment, from where I'm standing, it looks as though the universe is winning. I love this statement!! lol congratz and by the way i totally agree that u have to learn the "hard way"!!

I must assume from this post that you have never once picked up a newspaper and read the Editorials section? I am sick of seeing complaints and rants in the comments like yours. The Times is not a news article, nor is it a college paper. It is an Editorial, an OPINION piece meant to entertain as well as inform. If you dislike the writing style so much, subscribe to the Globe and Mail - don't read something someone has volunteered their time to write and post on a site that someone else has paid for and provided to you free of charge, and then tell them they aren't up to your intellectual standards. April 29, 200719 yr well, i really don't think the whole ditch thing is a big deal, or the password thing. there's only ONE problem I have. the only picture-making program i know how to use is paint, and I could make the ditch look better than that! "Dost hath not giveth thy name 'noob' to thy brethren... ...Or thou art must considereth thyself a noob as well."
April 29, 200719 yr Just a thought - have any of you guys actually seen a pretty ditch? Someone should come and dig me a beautiful, aesthetic ditch in my backyard to please my sense of art.
April 29, 200719 yr Great article! I completely agree that by making everything idiot-proof the idiots won't be able to learn, then have something similar happen to them in rl? (pyramid scams anyone?). To all those saying that if you had been lured you would support the ditch....wrong! I was lured for over 3m awhile ago, but guess what, i've learned never to trust anyone having drop parties or making videos for the internet in wildy. The best way to learn is through a first-hand experience. well, off to ditch-jump ^_^ also, if you entered the wild with valuables in your pack, whos fault is it? and to those caught by the "trade and run" scam that got you in wildy, limit your trading to areas away from the wild. It's only funny until someone gets hurt.............then its hilarious! "The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his." General Patton
April 29, 200719 yr Will Ditch-jumping be a new RuneScape pass-time? Maybe... More off-topic: Will I ever take my purple party hat out into the wilderness? No, because I'm one of the few players who believe that extra bank space is far more valuable than a colored piece of digital paper. I couldnt agree more. THE DITCH IS LAME. i sort of like the idea, i mean, i got scammed once by some guy who asked me for help, led me into the wild and killed me. i was still a naiive noob, and didnt realize what he was doing until it was too late. i just ignored the warning about the wild without reading it or knowing what it was. I reported him for scamming, like youre supposed to do, AND I LEARNED MY LESSON. the ditch probably would have prevented this from happening. ***HOWEVER*** the actual ditch that they added is lame. it should be more interesting: not a straight line, and it should have [bleep]es on the bottom or something... I totally like the password blocker. i also like that you cant say the word "password". it is a good step towards protecting idiot noobs in the game, but i still agree with whoever said that that wont stop idiots from telling passwords on AIM or other forums. Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.
April 29, 200719 yr i agree 100%. in my opinion the "ditch of stupidity" is one of the sillyist things i think JaGex has ever put in RS. I think some kind of barbed wire baricade thingy would have worked out better :D THE BEST WAY TO LERAN IS TO EXPIERIENCE IT 1st HAND i remember on my fisrt character i ever made i was stupid enough to try out the jaegx blocks ur pass thingy and low and behold i got HACKED so i just created a new acc (spydir) and started again lol and i havnt been scammed since W0000000t
April 29, 200719 yr 1st thing....... i tried that thing with the stove when i was little and boy did it hurt  but i think Jagex has a point but at the same time its draining the fun of RS2 i mean in RSC the wilderness was everywhere. boy how fun would that be to kick some noobs butt at draynor or even Fallador. So for all u noobs out there don't be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo STUPID Soz where was i..... ah yes DEAL WITH IT if some noob kills you in the wild just take 1 item (if u got 25 prayer) and kick his but but!!!!!!!!!!! dont complain to jagex. i mean if people die does that make it scamming
April 29, 200719 yr Parents tell toddlers (repeatedly in most cases) not to touch the hot stove, climb up the bookcase, swing from the chandelier, or drink from the toilet (no, wait, that last one's puppy training, not child rearing!). Actually, that's child rearing too, my 2 yr old is quite inventive when it comes to bizarre things to do. I loved this article and it was very timely too, since a friend and I were discussing the dumbing down of Runescape last night. The warnings that were there sufficed for years, if the current crop of players can't figure it out then that's their problem and shouldn't be ours. It's like I tell every person who begs me for free stuff because they were hacked or took their best stuff in the wildy and died, I'm sorry to hear it, I guess you'll have to be more careful in the future.

April 29, 200719 yr "One of the truisms of programming is that as soon as you make something idiot-proof, the universe builds a better idiot. Programming sometimes seems to be a perpetual race between the programmers, who want to idiot proof their programs, and the universe which wants to build bigger and better idiots." so true...every time JaGeX does something some new idiot comes out and decides to jump over the gap and then trade with the person in the wildy... ~Drop the Dagger and Laugh at the Blood on Your Hands~
April 29, 200719 yr I agree with the editor(Who are you mysteryman/woman/both/neither?!?) on the fact that Jagex does to much to "save" the stupid people. Let them learn the way most players learned, experience. I learned never say your password the hard way (I mourn for you Lord Of Pie, victim of the haxors) and never go into the wildy with your best items. So let the little newbs learn to fend for themselves, and take away the tutors, helpers, blocks, stops, and all around annoyances. Save Runescape for the peoples with da smartiness. It is impossible to exaggerate the unimportance of almost everything.
