Why Do People Constantly Whine About Arguing?

There are no right or wrong answers, but there are better answers than others.

I'd agree with that. I don't mind sensibly & cleverly debating a point with somebody who disagrees with me but it's annoying when somebody makes sensless, baseless and ridiculous arguments or even worse when they begin to act in a chilish way.

He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart,

and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

- Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

One last thing... I really dont get spam... can someone explain to me what it is exactly?

It's one of two things:

1.) Meat in a can. Easily one of the most dsgusting foods. Ever.

2.) Junk on the internet, usually either soliciting or something that has nothing to do with it. Example:

a.) You just won a free iPod! go to http://www.thisisnotarealwebaddress.com to claim your reward!!!11!

b.) Person 1: Nas is cool.

Person 2: Yeah, for real. He made Illmatic.

Person 1: Yup. What an awesome album.

Person 3:dUde OmGz I totally laid a kid out at skool roflol rofflecopter1!

I guess technically the qoute above was spam, having nothing to do about whining about arguments. But you didn't hear that from me. :-$

Opinions are a lot like essays.

There are no right or wrong answers, but there are better answers than others.

And let's face it, a lot of opinions that get thrown around by people here are stupidly misinformed.

I agree. Especially when people have opinions on science, which can often be misinformed (especially for one particular theory) to the point of being annoying and wrong. Of course, everyone is entitled to thier opinion, but the idea that it's some sort of sacred right and no one can say you're wrong gets annoying, especially when some opinions defy facts, logic and/or reasoning...

... in my opinion. :P

Anyone ever heard the quote - "opinions are a lot like [wagon] holes - everyone has them"?

This is a Message Board, a website dedicated to discussion. When people are discussing things, they tend to argue with one another. Way too many of you have a hard time grasping that concept, and I just don't understand why. I'm going to ask for an explanation, but I doubt I'll actually get a reasonable one.

It's just very annoying that every time you open a topic, no matter what it's about Halo or Jesus, people are getting so hostile towards each other. Even when discussion isn't asked for. It's not so much the point that they're having a discussion, it's more that they're provoking arguements in such a hostile way that it can never result in something positive. People don't listen to each other. People mainly talk past eachother. When somebody is saying something, the other people just quickly reads the text, pulls out the negative things, googles for a solution and the first thing he sees he just copy pastes. They're not interested in what somebody else has got to say, they just interested in forcefully shove their opinions down somebodies throat. Then there's also the fact that almost nobody that can admitt that they're just wrong. Everybody always needs to have the last word. It's so annoying.

Besides, the off topic forum is for having fun as well, in my eyes. And in the topics where you can just have a laugh all these arguements pop up as well.

Look at that thread about the guy coming back here after a couple of years. Out of nothing this arguement stats, nobody asked for it, nor is it entertaining. It's just pathetic namecalling. In that thread you also say that Scapeboard was full of arguements and the moderation was more 'relaxed'. But if you looked back on Scapeboard, people didn't act like they are doing now. Nobody was fighting over nothing like this. It was more fun, people had a little more respect for eachother. And THAT'S why the moderation was more 'relaxed'.

Debate is fine, heated debate is fine, vicious, blood-thirsty debate is fine.

But argument? No. That's what happens when you abandon reason and logic, and instead resort to slander and jibe. You may as well stop.

Not really,I heard someone killed a man because of one.The notion of the debate?Something about debating,I don't know.

I agree with this entirely, and I try to prove it wrong by openly admitting when I'm wrong every time it happens. It's rare, but I do. :P

A lot of the users here would probably agree that arguing and debating is a form of fun though. Though I understand where you're coming from.

Look at that thread about the guy coming back here after a couple of years. Out of nothing this arguement stats, nobody asked for it, nor is it entertaining. It's just pathetic namecalling.

Yeah, I'm not really going to attempt to justify that argument. But I, for one, do enjoy it. I'm not going to pretend like I don't.

Exactly! And I'm not saying that it was good or bad, and I'm not saying whether or not I agree with it. I was just pointing it out. The crowd here differs completely from that of Scapeboard, which would explain why the Mod's have to act the way they do.

That quote you just pulled was kinda taken out of context, I was only defending what was said about the user leaving.

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

Unfortunatley Mr. Marx isn't the smartest philosopher around. :P I agree with him there though.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
