June 15, 200719 yr In generic terms, 1 GB = 1000/1024 MB. It's kinda relative. #-o Yep, 40gb would be 40000mb or 40960mb. It should be the larger size, but some manufacturers will use 1000mb per gb and some will use the 1024mb per gb. June 22, 200719 yr depends..sometimes its 1000mb per GB sometimes its 1024 Isn't it Always 1024MB? I know that sometimes it will be displayed as 1000MB= 1GB..but isn't the true value 1024MB = 1GB?
June 22, 200719 yr depends..sometimes its 1000mb per GB sometimes its 1024 Isn't it Always 1024MB? I know that sometimes it will be displayed as 1000MB= 1GB..but isn't the true value 1024MB = 1GB? Not exactly. It's always displayed 1024MB in an operating system such as Windows. Manufacturers of storage such as in flash memory and hard drives like to count it as 1000MBs to a GB to have the advertised space larger than it really is.
June 22, 200719 yr It just depends on if your using binary or base 10 for your calculations. Both 1gb= 1000mb and 1gb=1024 are valid. manufactures use 1gm=1000mb as it gives the impression the drives are larger than they really are.
June 22, 200719 yr A Gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes. A Gibibte is 1,073,741,824 bytes. The usage of the word "gigabyte" is ambiguous, depending on the context. When referring to RAM sizes and file sizes, it traditionally has a binary definition, of 1024̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâó bytes (typically assimilated or approximated to 1000̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâó, for convenience). For every other use, it means exactly 1000̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâó bytes. In order to address this confusion, currently all relevant standards bodies promote the use of the term "gibibyte" for the binary definition.
