Wisdom Teeth

Featured Replies

I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled this Thursday and quite frankly I'm scared out of my wits. I've never had any type of surgury before and I'm really afraid of getting knocked out. All of these thoughts run through my mind: What if I never wake up? What if the next thing I see is the pearly gates? (or worse  ) and so on...

Well so that's that...can anyone give me some reassurence that nothing will go wrong, cause I'm kinda freaked about this

Just think of it this way. Would you rather get knocked out or just dulled. My sister got her wisdom teeth taken out and she wasn't knocked out, they used a local anesthesia and it hurt she said.

Complications from general anaesthetics almost never happen to young people. I've had to have it quite a few times. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Yeah they gave me the choice of getting a local anesthesia or getting totally knocked out and I didn't let my doctor even finish his sentence before I told him to knock me out.

Another thing that I'm not looking forward to is not being able to eat for 8 or so hours before the surgury...I'm a 6'2" 170 lbs. teenager. I'm always hungry!

You'll live..

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Yes, you will live. But that aside, I've always had awesome times under anaesthetic. Just try to enjoy it.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

My mom had hers cut out - she stayed in bed for 3 days afterwards. The dentist also gave her prescription pain killers; I forget the name.

Wisdom teeth removal is no fun, but you should live through it.

I'm getting mine out on the 31st. Not worried about it though, my little sister is tiny as hell (17 yrs old) and had 4 out.

Frankly, I would be more worried about the dentist violating you while you're conked out than never waking up.

I am having part of my urethra removed in a few weeks! I would put that above getting some teeth out. Relax.

Oh man... that has to suck.

Why are you getting part of it removed?

Complications from general anaesthetics almost never happen to young people. I've had to have it quite a few times. Don't :| worry, you'll be fine.

Happened to me >_>. The first time I had general anesthetic I had great pain breathing for several weeks, and after that it tooks months of breathing exercises for my lungs to go back to their normal size. And it was a small operation, I was only 16, and I had all those problems.

In all cases, they don't give general anesthetic for pulling teeth  I had four teeths pulled out in my life. Teeth go out very easily, and painlessly. The most annoying thing is the bleeding that goes on for several days, trouble eating etc, then a little pain until the spot is fully healed.

When they pulled my teeth, they didn't use General. But in alot of cases with wisdom teeth they do because they acutally have to many times cut in the gum to reach the tooth because it hasn't even come out yet.

My boyfriend had his removed almost a year ago. You'll be just fine. :P If you have a girlfriend, use it as an excuse to get some more lovin'.

Yeah they are giving me an option of it. I think its because they are impacted though so its a bit more of a surgery.

You'll live..

i read an article about an 18 year old kid who died because the anesthesiologist screwed up.

I wouldnt' wory at all... it's very routine now.

I know how you feel. My wisdom teeth grew in far too early, when I was 12. Instead of pulling them, they pulled 4 nearer the front (2 per visit).

I wasn't in much discomfort and that was 15 years ago... I'm sure things are even less traumatic now :)
