wouldnt usually post about this sort of thing but the docs isnt open til monday and that's a bit too long so until then im putting up with it.

Basically whenever i cough, my right lung hurts like hell, but its fine when I don't cough. I'm a bit phlegmy and also feel drowsy/have a temperature, so I don't reakon it's anything other than some sort of infection. It's not a cold because well, it's not a cold, my nose isnt running.

bascially im asking has anyone else had anything similar and know any decent way to treat it, or anyone have any idea what it could be?

cheers.

sounds like simple pneumonia, harmless unless you have some sort of auto-immune problem, genetic heart defect from birth, are over 70, or under 5. i'd suggest googling it to check the treatments online.

still go to the doctor though, since i'm not one, and never intend to be one (despite my parents wishes)

I don't know, you might want to consider going to the ER. I guess if your symptoms don't change at all you could wait it out til Monday, but I'd only recommend that if it's an issue of insurance. Any pain chest/lung related you probably want checked as soon as possible.

You haven't exactly given us much to go on.

Do you smoke? Drink alot? Over/underweight? Exercise? Eating habits?

Etc.

Dont smoke anymore, drink a fair bit but never over the top, quite underweight, exercise a lot because of my job, eat quite well but indulge a lot too ;)

Think it's pneumonia, looks the most likely option.

Sounds along the lines of what I had a few days ago, but my throat also hurt, and whenever I coughed some green yucky stuff came out.

Went to the doctors and he told me it was a viral infection and he couldn't do anything about it.

Basically take anti cough medicine, drink loads tea with lemon.

3 days later I'm 95% healed.

It could be pleurisy or pneumonia from a viral infection. If it is an infection you might as well take aspirin or ibuprofen and you'll be in less pain. Really though this isn't the place for any of this. Try webmd or do what I said and just go to the ER.

Not the place for this? I think he's gotten some excellent advice.

( )

Go to the doctor. I know I rationalize it whenever I get sick or am in pain, and I always end up at the doctor's sooner or later (once with a fractured spine, after only 3 weeks of rationalization)!

The worst that could happen if you DO GO is you could feel silly if it's "No Big Deal" (which is unlikely, by the sound of your symptoms).

And the worst that could happen if you DON'T GO is you could die.

So, really, the choice is yours.

:-k My chest hurt once, whenever i breathed really hard or somethin. Of, course, it was because my "friend" punched me wicked hard after i got him so angry! It was worth it. Hoped i helped!

Sure people can tell him they think he should go to the doctor, but medically, I don't know of any doctors that post here that could have any idea what's going on. If you want medical advice this kind of board isn't the best place to ask.

This is a game forum, no offence but would you walk out into the street and ask the first person you saw with a T-shirt by a band you liked for medical advice? (Which might possibly be crucial to your future health and well-being)

Go to a professional medical person, even if it means a busy A&E department in a major city, it'll be safer than taking advice from a bunch of (possibly drunk), unqualified people - no offence to Tip.Iters (I am one too, after all)

Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?

Welcome to puberty, we've been expecting you.

I thought you might have been sarcastic, but I wasn't sure. I so completely agree now that even if you think it's not anything, you still need to go to the ER. I can't find the link for it because the search isn't working, but back in January I had chest pain too. I thought it was a pulled muscle. After 3 hours of intermittent pain I decided to go the ER and it turned out that my lung had collapsed and I needed surgery. So definitely even if you're unsure you should always play it safe when it comes to pain around vital organs and go to the ER.
