September 2, 200718 yr Anyone noticed that? People already came up with good guides and ran out of idea so people started to flood more with useless guides such as; "Ultimate Amazing guide to how to cook shark", "Super Amazing guide on how to get RS to work on Firefox, 110% effective!", or "~~*~~Guide to collect cabbage~~*~~"..... I mean these aren't needed at all, it's difficult to browse for good ones now. Sticky thread needs update that states no more useless guide, how about it? Hacked 10 years old account, permamently quit if Jagex doesn't return items.
September 2, 200718 yr Well there is a certain amount of stupid guides but we can't really put a rule "No idiotic guides which don't actually help anyone" can we? :P I noticed a stupid guide earlier about what items to wear when training..that should never have been there really. :-w Proud Retired Council of The GladiatiorzClick here for our website - 110+ F2P Combat Requirements
September 2, 200718 yr The sad thing is that this is a lose-lose situation :( There was a thread in here a few weeks ago about someone complaining about how we lock too many guides in PMG for not being good enough :wall: So if we let unhelpful guides slide, someone gets mad. If we start locking more again, someone gets mad. But I do agree with you about those "joke" guides that are mainly created for entertainment purposes (how to collect cabbage, how to make pies, etc.). - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
September 2, 200718 yr There was a thread in here a few weeks ago about someone complaining... http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=686670 I think thats the one. -- "No idiotic guides which don't actually help anyone" can we? I think you could actually, just word it properly...: 'Guides must sustain a certain level of maturity and guide or help the users in an accurate way...' Though that can be fixed on greatly, it does allow a good portion of the guides to be locked, since they are 'joke' guides. :?
September 3, 200718 yr Why don't we have a system where guide ideas have to be approved of before they posted by a moderator or someone with specific authority to do so? Guides must: 1. Not be just copying data from a main website (no guides which have information that is easily found on the Tip.it main site) 2. Try to make guides original so there is less guides of the same topic 3. Guides must be creative and helpful to a certain degree that the Tip.it community will find them sufficiently useful (no joke guides) Proud Retired Council of The GladiatiorzClick here for our website - 110+ F2P Combat Requirements

September 3, 200718 yr The replies about the Cabbage guide are really depressing. :? --- I like mrmyk idea, there's only 1 or 2 guides being posted every day roughly, so it wouldn't be too bad to sort through the guides. It's probably the best solution.

It's probably the best solution. Agreed. I recently reported 3 guides, one of them had been in the forum for 3 days. Once I reported it, it was locked within a couple of hours. 8,325th to 99 Firemaking 3/9/08 | 44,811th to 99 Cooking 7/16/084,968th to 99 Farming 10/9/09 | Runescaper August 2005-March 2010Tip.it Mod Feb. 2008-Sep. 2008 | Tip.it Crew Sep. 2008-Nov. 2009

September 3, 200718 yr Could a mod clean this topic? The OoC replies were okay with one or two, but more then 5 is getting spammy, and its getting way off-topic of the actual reason this thread is here.

The OoC replies were okay with one or two, but more then 5 is getting spammy, and its getting way off-topic of the actual reason this thread is here. Ok, I'll be serious, about 95% of the people posting in the guide say it's AoW worthy(not just the OoC's posts there) so it can't be that bad of a guide.
September 3, 200718 yr Ok, I'll be serious, about 95% of the people posting in the guide say it's AoW worthy(not just the OoC's posts there) so it can't be that bad of a guide. I haven't said anything about the guide itself, since I have not read it. I'm merely saying posting about an example that was used to explain someones argument further isn't really getting a solution going, or an outcome. It just causes a circulation of spam, possibly flaming. I mean, those posts are spam since they do not help or give any guided direction in a solution, or outcome. They aren't needed, since 5+ other people have said the exact same thing. The topic is about a flooded forum with useless topics, not about one individual topic that was or wasn't used as a poor example-that guide might be a fine guide, but its not what this topic is about, indirectly it is yes, but just posting about it because the examples insult cabbage is spam, or should be.
September 3, 200718 yr Maybe putting a post requirement would lessen the rubbish posted there. I can tell you now, that will never happen at Tip.It, or so what I've read from past topics that suggest this. I think it had something to do with Quality>Quantity. Possibly if the topic still exists about post counts, keeping them, or getting rid of them, you should read that as well for a reason. I don't have a link for it. Edit: Found it: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=495898 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=492438
September 4, 200718 yr Wow dude. Seriously. That cabbage guide was good. like most of it was a joke, but was part serious. Most people from tip it who comes to pick cabbage pick at random and it gets.. annoying. I think someone lacks of humor here. Going for 99 fm.
September 4, 200718 yr I agree with my fellow OoCers that the cabbage guide is valuable, but seriously, enough is enough. It is worse for the OoC by flooding this topic. Stop it. They get it. Aside from that I think that the board should have a few of its guides locked, but only the very inappropriate that do not help anyone. If done carefully and slowly, no one should have a problem. Acolyte of the OoC.
September 4, 200718 yr Sheesh, enough is enough. Strav is right, we get the point. I think the most effective resolution to this "issue" would be to carry on like we should we should have been all along. If you see a guide that you feel isn't informative enough to have its own thread, report it. Then the moderators (and pokemama, who does an excellent job) will use their best judgment to lock the threads that needn't be there. Simple as that. It doesn't matter if you "incorrectly" report a thread, it's not like it will count against you. If you're unsure, just report it and a moderator will handle it. It's too difficult to draw the line and put a "range" of acceptable guides in the rules. This needs to be handled on a case-by-case basis. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
