Spenjoman
Member of the Month I am not entirely sure if this has been suggested as of yet, but we could hold a Member of the Month competition. This would stimulate people to post in proper grammar, and think about what they are posting. Also this member would get a reward, such as "Senior Member" rank or "Local Moderator" as this person has shown dedication to the community. General Discussion I have had a close look in the General Discussion forums, and I see threads that don't really have any discussion value in it. Therefore we should make the General Discussion forums more stricter so people could post on real discussion, and not on "Who is the best RuneScape player" threads. Mamong
Not sure about the first suggestion, doesn't sound too bad. The second one, I agree 100%. Most of the topics in General Discussion are just silly topics that are pointless. I think we need stricter requirements. Only problem is, where do you draw the line. Some may see a topic as discussion, others may see it as pointless. So if a mod locks it, you get some complaining it offered some real discussion. Green_Link
Well if there was a 'Member of the Month' award, it may lead to disputes over people who feel they deserved it/the winner didn't deserve it. The other thing is fine by me tho.
darkblade986
The "Member of the Month" idea would cause too many disputes, as mentioned above. Having the whole of the staff going through and deciding which member acted the most mature would be hard. There are several members who act equally mature, and having to decide among them could start to indicate favoritism. I think we've already had 1 or 2 cases where someone tried arguing favoritism on us in a decision (I think, not entirely sure though). As for the general discussion topic; I remember that before we had a ban on What-If topics, which obviously was heavily relaxed upon. I guess just so long as we don't get to very pointless topics (like some of those seen in the "Post Thy Funny Forum Posts" topic), then there shouldn't be any problems. So long as there is at least some discussion available, the topic remains open. That decision is reserved to the moderators and those who moderate the individual boards, however. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
Kill_Life
To give him a Local Mod status, won't happen. There are a lot more things Admins check before someone becomes a Mod. To the second, let me +/- quote what someone once said: You are complaining about the rules to be too strict, to we make them less strict, and now you are complaining about them being not strict enough... If there are bad top̨̮̉̉cs, just post on them. 'Natural selection' will take care of it. And if it becomes too spammy, report it. But we are trying things on the first one, we did the Rank Contests, and now the Achievements of the month. I guess there will come more. InkofDeath
I think tip. It's starting to do fourm contests, or forum games, like the contest just awhile ago. But I really don't think Tip.It. would center out a user out of the 170k there is. Disputes, flame wars, ame anything negative it will happen sooner or later, then will become a very natural thing if the Member Of The Month continues. also even if Tip.It were to present this, MOTM wouldn't, nor should ever get local mod rank, or senior rank, more proper and easier would be MOTM rank. If those topics are pointless, then how come they get live for a week, then die, just like any other topic in any other forum? How did one of the topics become a 'Hot Topic'? Yes, they are a little off on seriousness, but they are fun to particapate in, if you allow it to yourself. If its so bad, report it, and it will be dealt with. :-#
mrmyk
That first one just sounds stupid really :P This isn't a workplace, we aren't here to be doing as much as we can to get some silly thing saying member of the month. The second suggestion, however, i agree with. We need there to be more discussion there instead of these survey threads. eyehawk78
We need there to be more discussion there instead of these survey threads.I really couldn't agree more. I hardly visit General Discussion anymore unless its to view an update topic. The rest of the topics are usually "Your favourite Barrows brother?" Which makes me wanna scream in the authors face "Why do you care?!!!" Sorry, rant over  Eye Website Updates & Corrections | Website Discussion
mario_sunny
Member of the Month Good suggestion, but I do think it has it's share of flaws. There are an incredible amount of active users on tip.it today that it would be nearly impossible for the admins to come down to a single member who is the best out of all the thousands of users. Not only is that more work for the already busy admins, I can see a lot of flaming and bad-mouthing of the staff after a member is chosen. Imagine a hundred users who decide they want to be the member of the month and try very hard for an entire month just to get the member of the month position. Then the staff has to decide on a single user, and all the other 99 just wasted a full month working for nothing. What comes next? "OMG TIP.IT I HATE YOU I WORKED SOOO HARD AT GETTING THAT MEMBER OF THE MONTH AND YOU CHOSE THAT [*****] MATTHEW44294." Also, mentioned before a reward as a local moderator would not work. Local moderators go through special training, just acting mature and using good grammar won't cut it. I know you thought it was a great idea, and I would have thought the same. You aimed at increasing the average tip.iter's grammar/spelling/maturity, which was an awesome idea; it just came with some critism. General discussion The general board problem is being dicussed here. Please read the last few posts to get up-to-date, the original idea has someone changed as posted on the first post. By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( . tripsis
While I do like all suggestions involve increasing the forum's sense of entertainment and enjoyment, I don't think Member of the Month is the best option. These days, almost all contests are a popularity contest, but Member of the Month would be one of the most popularity-based in my opinion. As already mentioned, it would cause too much dispute, flaming, crying, whatever. As for the second suggestion, I would love to have a Poll/Survey/Questionaire subforum in General Discussion. Hopefully it would help promote "real" discussions in the main forum. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
