Off Topic Help & Advice Board

I think it would be useful to have an Off Topic Help & Advice Subforum. There are some topics that would be counted as spam in the Off-Topic forum but not in the Help & Advice Subforum. Threads in OT are generally discussions about things but in Help & Advice people could ask for suggestions, ask for help with rl problems or get answers to questions they have been trying to find the answer to for a while without finding it.

Well currently, Help and Advice says 'all questions belong here.' which is fine, unless you have people confused to ask about real life problems in that forum, where most users usually post about RuneScape. So theortically any question belongs in Help and Advice, even if its real life, or RuneScape. So at the most, make a sub-forum for Real Life in Help and Advice.

This has also been discussed before somewhere, though I have a hard time remembering about it. :-#

I thought about that but I have never seen anyone ask a RL question in there so I assume not.

Just look at the guy asking for upper body strength help ;) There's your example of someone asking for RL help

I don't see the point in splitting up a board whose first page spans two days. If it spanned a six hour period, then I think a split would be in order. Otherwise, if you're just trying to move topics that don't interest you, everyone has to deal with that on each of the boards. If the Staff created a subforum for each type of topic, the activity on that "board" (subforums included) would decrease.

That's over doing it. He's only suggesting one topic gets its own sub-forum, Real Life help. That topic spans across so many things. He's not really splitting up that board only, there's tons of people who would love to post questions about Real Life, yet they don't because they will get flamed, or reported.

Exactly, although it may appear some not that many people want RL help, many hod back because they know their post will get locked as "spam"

Isn't the entire point of off-topic to collect threads that don't belong in boards that are already established?

Anything (within the Forum Rules!) not relating to RS or AS

Looks like that would include just about anything you could ever want to ask about life related issues. :?

If a mod is locking a thread just because it has to do with a 'real life' issue and it doesn't break any rules, a PM needs to be sent to get it unlocked.

If you go by that, any and all questions, even real life ones should be in H&A.

Would have helped if you had quoted the board description instead of just grabbing the second half of my reply to try and make a point. The Off-Topic description clearly says it's for everything not RS or AS related while the H&A forum is grouped within the RS category and is used for RS help.

As I understand it Help & Advise was created for all RS related questions (which is why it's in the "RuneScape" category) because they were constantly being posted in other boards. Off-topic doesn't have that problem according to posts made (page 1 spanning 2 days, ect) so there is 0 need for a yet another forum when these questions would work fine within Off-Topic itself. Throwing more posts into the most used board here (H&A) isn't exactly going to address the problem either.

The only reason why I would see a large need for such a subforum is if there were so many question topics that they were flooding the forum. But since the forum spans over 1-2 days, I don't really see that happening. While it may be something we should consider in the future if we get more of those types of threads, I don't think it's an issue that needs to be resolved right now.

Personally, i think this a good idea.

A few months ago, when i used to actually post on Off Topic (easy post counts ftw :-w ), i saw alot of Forum Users trying to ask personal questions, but get flamed/spammed on their threads, forcing them to be locked.

If there were a friendly, well-nurtured sub-forum they could post on, without the fear of spam, then it would defintely be worth it.

Whether you need help or are offering help, all questions belong here.

It either needs to be changed, or better specified where to post Real Life questions. As I said before there are many who probably wish to post about Real Life questions, yet they won't, for they will be critized, flamed, and shunned by a lot of users in OT, since the standard there is very high. Many sub-forums weren't needed at all, and look how active they are now. If you give it to the users they will post.
