I never knew about the Ghosts and didn't know how to get the Mongoose, so I always used the 'hog. I like the way it handles compared to the Mongoose anyways. I agree though, it was far too easy. Not even a time limit like the first game. And what was really needed was another Dukes of Hazard type jump (yes, like the first game). But that might be ripping it off a little too much....

I liked the ending. I know enough about the Halo story, but I'm not totally detailed on it. It might be fun to pick up a Halo book sometime.

Technically, I was right. And Expansion isn't another Halo game, its just based in the Halo Universe.

Basically I said: It is a new gamae, and it is NOT an Expansion pack adding on to the Halo 3 campaign. It is based on an ODST in New Mombassa after the events on Halo 2 in this very city.

I'm pretty sure that the planet the Chief floats towards in the Legendary ending is from the distant future, and I think it's been stated that Master Chief is the main character from Marathon, or at the very least a relative.

You know, typing that, I realized it seems a little selfish. What if Homer wants to be Arbiter? I guess with 4 players it doesn't matter much, since I just don't want player 1 and any of the other 3 is fine, but with only 2 people it is kind of demanding. You know Homer, if you want me to host it, sure, I'll be the Chief. But if you want to host, that's fine, too.

It's your job to perform mop-up and get the bad guys out of there. Lucky you!

 

Does it play like Halo?

 

Yes and no. It's a first-person game set in the Halo universe; in Jarrard's words, it "will feel like a Halo game." At the same time, your ODST is no badass cybernetic supersoldier. He's just "one lone guy in a Covenant-occupied city," which will dictate a more reserved, tactical play style. (I bet Bungie works up some lesser enemies for you to square off with too, though.)

 

How much Halo 3 will be in there?

 

It's the same engine and tech as Halo 3. But on the content side, Bungie is working furiously on building the Recon campaign from the ground up, so don't look for recycled levels or anything like that. This also won't look like the New Mombasa of Halo 2. Expect a unique experience.

 

What's up with the multiplayer?

 

Recon will have new multiplayer maps and potentially other stuff, but no more details available than that. However, it will also contain the new Mythic map pack that's hitting Marketplace in the spring.

 

Points? Yeah, a full thousand points' worth of achievements for the campaign.

 

Does it have [insert my favorite Halo 3 feature]? Yep, Recon has "full feature parity" with Halo 3. So things like online four-player co-op and Forge level editing are still supported.

 

Am I going to get the Recon armor? "You might, you might not," says Jarrard. Cagey. But he also pointed out that 1) the Recon armor wouldn't be so special if everyone got it, and 2) maybe that armor won't be such a big deal by this time next year, anyway. Hmm.

 

Who's making this thing?

 

Bungie formed a small splinter group to build Recon while the rest of the company focuses on other projects. (Projects? Plural?!) This team includes some Bungie vets who have been working on Halo since the beginning of the series, and they view it as a "fun creative challenge" to build up an entirely new Halo offshoot with established engine tech. This is a one-off game, though; don't expect a whole new ODST franchise. Call it Halo Gaiden.

 

Anything else?

 

Not related to Recon per se, but an upgrade is going into Bungie.net soon that will let you render your Halo 3 saved films directly to Flash videos on the web site. Not too shabby.

I'm hoping that this is a full-fledged campaign, and that campaign is the focus, especially since they might as well be porting the matchmaking system from Halo 3. Yeah, there's new maps for it, yeah, everything is from the ground-up, but it's built using Halo 3's engine, or I would assume this means that it is going to be an easier project. I do like the idea of a more tactical Halo 3 though. Might as well just be a large expansion tbh.

 

 

 

Oh, and while I am definitely looking forward to Gears and Fable 2, I don't think the two will kill Halo. As far as I can tell, Gears 2 is just Gears 1, but with a meat shield and maybe three or four new weapons. Then Fable 2 is a completely different genre. If other RPG's, Gears and CoD4 weren't able to stop Halo 3 from becoming so big, I don't think just another two on top of the pile will. You also have to remember, I am anxiously awaiting these games, Fable and Gears 2 look awesome. However, when it comes to purely social play, Halo 3 still looks more appealing. I don't want to be playing an MMO-esque RPG when I can be playing an FPS with so many different ways of playing.
