mcneilp
Just to set the scene: Almost every weekend me and a bunch of friends go to the "Music Rooms" on a Friday/saturday night. Its music practice rooms with instruments you can use, free of charge and it has a bar with pool tables etc as well. Its an amazing place for young folks in my area to hang out, as until this was set up, around 2-3 months ago, there wasn't very much to keep folks occupied in the area. Anyway, my friends and i went as soon as it opened for something to do and became the "regulars" , as we all played instruments in one form or another, some of us had been in bands/played for the school whereas other friends came for the banter and to have a laugh. Well, long story short, the owner organised a "Open Night" where bands could come and perform, all the money made from entrance ticket sales would go towards improving the rooms etc. Anyway, the owner approached us and asked if we would be willing to play a "set" (Each band got 20 minutes to fill as they wished). We weren't calling ourselves a band as we had been coming for something to do, but as we all played instruments anyway, the mucking about on the instruments must've sounded good  The Open night was on Tuesday and i have to say, it started out as one of the most daunting things i have ever done. It wasn't the first gig i have ever played, but it was probably the largest, with kids and other folks from school coming. We were on second and once the first band struck the finishing cord,i had the most butterflies in my stomach i have ever had and walking on, the heat from the spotlights and the noise from the audience didn't help. It was at that point when i looked at our bassist, who looked like  as he plugged in his guitar that really hit home that there was no going back.... Once the guitarist played the opening riff and we all got used to it, it turned out to be a really enjoyable experience, playing to a hall full of screaming/cheering (it was hard to tell) adolescents. The set flew past and in no time we had struck the last notes, the singer gave the usual banter to the crowd and we walked of to cheering....only to be asked to play another gig at new year for the local celebrations! sorry if story was a little long Post some daunting experiences you have had, maybe exams, playing live music, asking someone out...whatever. Bubsa
Man, that whole concept is sweet. Wish there was something like that round my way. Congrats as well, I always find the experience more rewarding when you have to conquer something more, like fear. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. IGoddessI
WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!! 8-) My first daunting experience was going from public speaking in front of a small class room, to 260 people, to 3 thousand people, in a few years time that 3 thousand will grow to 10 thousand+ (motivational speaking) :ohnoes: I'm actually an extremely shy person who doesn't talk very much so being able to conquer my fears really helped me to grow as a person. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. dwarfdude3
hmm, I spoke in front of my sophomore high school class, probably like 300 people. That was pretty freaky right before I got out I remember feeling all nervous but then like getting pumped for it and stuff. It turned out all right though, the audience was a lot more welcoming than I expected them to be.

mcneilp
Thanks for all the replies... I hate speaking in front of class as well, there is always someone who pulls some kinda face, or you remember something funny... Got few photos via bluetooth (ftw) at school today, not very good quality...mobile phone camera + bad lighting = crud photo...il try and get some better ones tonight. It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or belowScottish frictionScottish fiction
Stone69_Eyes
One night, i was at a friends place and we weren't really in a correct state of mind.. and my friend told me to draw something cool on the legs of his table.. and he said he'd kill me if i stuffed up (sarcasm of course but i thought he was being serious) and i can't draw very well but i drew this :D (sorry bad quality, i lost the original copy so i had to "print screen" from my msn dp.) ^Click Siggy for Blog^
mcneilp
That design on the table legs is sweet, seen some folks with tatoos like that, tribal ftw. Heres the best "picture" i have at the moment, taken from the "cameraman"'s phone (one of our friends, with the best megapixel phone camera : ) The quality and angle (crouching in front of the bass) is crud due to the lighting, and his bad cameraphone light shining of the metallic drums... No idea what he was tryin to photo... He's got some obscure ideas of what makes a good photo...heres hoping the other ones are better. I coulda also worn a brighter t shirt...although black is ftw. Hope to get better ones tonight, of the rest of us, heads and upper torso still intact.
