Tomato
Oi, I'm getting more sick and sick every day listening to these rappers steal beats from better, more talented artists. It all started with Vanilla Ice ripping off David Bowie and Queen. Tupac does it in his song "changes". Actually, he rips off the entire chorus. Eminem rips off Dido, and then proceeds to tarnish one of Aerosmith's best songs, "Dream On'. Nelly just ripped off NBA theme music in "Heart of a Champion". Isn't "what's so great about rap" is that the beats are good? Well rappers, step up and make your own beats instead of buying the license to rip off everyone else's! Lionheart_0
hmmm.... music (especialy the beats, not words) really cant be riped. The music is there for everyone. So even if the beats are riped, its still for the people... Anyways, its no use complaining about rap. Its gonna be around for awhile.. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Being a rapper doesn't really include much creativity as it is, but if you then also can't come up with your own beats you might as well stop making "music". Member of #darkwebz. And how long have remakes and remixes been around? Just admit it, you hate popular rap and that's where you get your opinion that they have no talent. so there's this thread in p2p general called "the most annoying things ppl do on runescape" i am tempted to post "ya wen im cybering with a girl and they log off for no reason"

Futurama
I think the most recent rap artists who have tried to make their own beats (50 cent etc) have shown us that they don't have the talent to. Eminem and The Streets make some really good backing tracks though.
teenageloser33
Plain and simple, drop rap and pick up rock, you can always make something unique out of writing your own chord progressions and what not. Also do you ever hear the chord progression for a song such as "Dream Healer" by Sonata Arctica ripped and used for someone elses lyrics? No. So do the right thing and drop rap. Pete_the_Viscous
I don't really mind them doing it... as long as they don't try and pass it off as "all their own work". Even if it's badly done I don't mind, as I don't have to listen to it; if it pleases some people, then it's fine by me if it's done---just as long, as I said, that I don't have to hear it and it's not taken as being their own work. Another thing is that, if they're going to take something, they really should try and change it a lot: it's like people on deviant art who take someone else's image and invert the colours, then claim that it's a photo-manipulation. ELO with Beethoven's Fifth are a good example of something taken and (some might say) improved; changed, at least. deviantart account
adthegreat-
Eminem didnt steal dido's chorus, it was an agreement and it got her pretty famous. Everytime someone 'steals' a sample, the original owner gets paid, its the law.

Everytime someone 'steals' a sample, the original owner gets paid, its the law. Did you even read the post? They know it's legal, and they know the original artist gets royalties. It's not that they're against - it's the lack of creativity. No, but you can still get a generic rock sound which is barely different from a hundred other bands. Just like sonata arctica.
logic-is-overrated
But its a lot easier just to be unoriginal and noncreative. And when all you're doing is producing mindless crap about the "gangster life" for all the wannabee thugs who lack a personal identity, what is the point of putting effort into it? Of course that relates strictly to the mainstream gangster rap that the majority listen too. This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

If the original artist finds out, they can sue. Copyright on music also runs out after 15 years (i think?) so if the owner doesn't renew their copyright on the track, anyone can sell, or in this case use it to rap against, to profit for themselves. dark_ice
Rap is silly.......simple as that. Jus listen to rock/metal. Way better IMO. And ya its really annoying when ppl "rip" beats from other songs. LAME....
nonpkiller
I don't like rap very much. As I've grown older, I've noticed that rapping doesn't take near as much talent as it used to when it first began. As for the ripping off classic song and turning them into crappy rap songs that 3rd and 4th graders love to sing along to, really makes me mad, and makes me feel like the original band has sorta betrayed it's fans. You can play the origial beats to Dream On or Behind Blue Eyes, and ask people who made that song, well over half the people will say Eminem or Limp Bizket. Dark_Tigra
I believe that's kind of like telling a DJ to get his/her own music to make his/her beats, lol. Try making up your own beat, it's not really easy, because a lot of times it will "sound just like" some other song..Everytime I make a beat up, it usually sounds like something else. Pete_the_Viscous
I sort of see what you mean, but rap artistes are usually more creative than that; I gathered that they actually wrote their own material. I suppose it might just be the lyrics, though. deviantart account
zelot
this is a very stupid post(no offence) everyone rips beats off eachother..its how music works..*WOW MY DOG IS GOING CRAZY*.. i mean theres a lot of songs that rappers release that arent beats ever heard before...its just that mainstream usually only hears the songs that have beats from other songs...and another thing is...more than 2/3 of tupacs songs were voice records over beats(because of his short death)... ~ZeLoT~

Lionheart_0
... it may be a lack of creativiity you see, but for rapers, they dont care about the beats, they are not musicains. They focuse on learichs (sp?). it may seem easy, but i doubt it really is to fit their words to someone elses song. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! THANK YOU HERR! I listened to the original "heaven" by Brian Adams that summer, summer ends and school starts, and ontop of that i turn on the radio, hear some familiar words except that it doesen't sound quite right. A danceremix of the song of the summer! All my good memories associated to that song from that summer.. Ruined! Yuck for dance/techno remixes, they are 10 times as bad as the rap-rips. Bubsa
Sometimes a rap song comes out with a remixed beat but it's actually quite good. So good for them. Just shame shame and shame on the people like "Twista" who take the beat AND the lyrics and manipulate it into some pathetic ghetto tale. I guess that's why a lot of people respect Dre. I canne think of any songs he's produced that he's sampled a lot of another song from; barr Express yourself. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
