The dragon scimitar, is it worth it?

In memberes runescape if you ask about you will be told that the dragon scimitar is the best dragon weapon. However to get this fantastic weapon you have to do the "monkey madness" quest, which is arguarbly the hardest quest in the game. However is it worth grinding through this quest when its stats arent actually as good as its big brother's the dragon longsword my short answer is "definitely!!" I say this for four main reasons.

1)it is considerably faster than the dragon long

2) its bonuses are only slightly worse than the dragon long and dont make a huge difference to your max hit, and i personally would sacrifice its slight power for its huge advantage over the dragon long:

3)it is so much more accurate, and i mean a huge amount more.

4) its special is seriously good, it doesnt add huge amounts of extra damage like the dragon mace or the dragon battle axe but it deals damage and prevents defensive prayers from being used for 5 seconds, this could mean 4 hits with the dragon scimitar, which even with a modest strength level could work out as 40, or even 50 damage done.

i forgot to say in this that i dont advise d scim for low lvl strength characters, its main advantage lies in its speed.

I'm partially retired from Rs2 at the moment, i only check my account every so often, but ill be back soon!! combat lvl is 80, highest ll is slayer: lvl 85

3) The dragon scimitar is not at all more accurate than the dragon longsword, and certainly not "a huge amount more." The dragon scimitar is actually less accurate than the dragon longsword because it has a lower attack bonus. (+67 vs. +69) Also, the dragon longsword is more versatile with its accuracy because it also has a +58 stab bonus which can come in handy against monsters weak to stab (and in one quest, Spirits of the Elid, I think).

4) The dragon scimitar's special attack is next to useless in PvM. It only makes the attack more accurate by an amount that neither the RS KB or Tip.it will say, but I would estimate at only around 10-15%. Its special is ok in PvP, but the dragon longsword's special attack is still better. You can use the dragon longsword's special attack 4 times in a row without recharging and each of those 4 attacks is better than one special of the dragon scimitar's. The special attack of the dragon longsword increases accuracy and damage for one hit by another value that neither the RS KB or Tip.it will say, but one that I have observed to be around +25-35%, a high amount, for both.

Saying that, I still agree that the dragon scimitar is better than the dragon longsword in a PvM environment because is gets 3/2 the attacks. I think that the dragon longsword is better in PvP, though, because in the duel arena you only need at most to do 99 damage to your opponent (most people play without food and drinks) and 4 potentially high hits will get you very close to KO'ing your opponent. Also, a lot of people only duel with prayer off, thereby further weaking the special attack of the dragon scimitar. I'm not going to be stuck with either weapon in the wilderness, favoring the dragon dagger and whip. I'm not even going to step into the wilderness anyway for that matter, so for me, the point is moot.

One last comment: Is this really the right forum for this thread? You aren't asking for advice, and this seems like more of a debate thread to me. If you didn't mean for this thread to be a debate, then sorry, this is the internet, you can't expect to be able to post your opinions without someone trying to shoot them down. :XD:

I have a Dragon Long right now. And even when I complete the Monkey Madness (I want to do it with a high combat level and high other required levels) I doubt it that I buy a Dragon scimitar...But maybe I think different on that when I complete the quest.

Monkey madness is a hard quest if you don't have prayer. Although if you do then it is very easy. only time consuming.

And i always use the dragon scimitar over the longsword for its speed.

Just like when ranging its better to use the rapid option. It may not be as more accurate but the little bit of extra speed gives the upper hand over time.

P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.

Firstly I must give credit where it is due, Atronic you took the words right out of my brain. Those are the exact 2 points I was about to argue as well.

Secondly, this is more of a debate. With that being said it belongs in the "Debate" Sub-forum of the Rants forums. Which you will find there is already a extremely long debate about the "D-Scimmy vs D-Long" scenario.. its old news.

Yes I have used a scimmy in the past but I found myself getting frustrated at the amount of zero's I was hitting. So after 80 str I vowed to never use a scimmy again, and to this day I haven't, nor have I str trained period for that matter. However, when I max my other combats and finally need 99 str for combat 126, I will use a d long instead of scimmy.. If you think about it 4 specs, not slower by much and less zeros. Perfect weapon in my eyes. Granted whip > all d-weps.

Apparently, my signature was to big.

Quests ale almost alvays worth done. But i don't think that dragon scimitar is COMPLETELY greater weapon than longsword. Longsword is more accurate, can control, and can stab, so i won't directly put scimitar better. It depends on situation. I would use scimitar on unarmored enemies, rangers and mages, but if you encounter enemies with light metal armor (chainmail and medium helmets), longsword's accuracy will prove itself. anyway, i would say that quest done is worthy, because you the rewards are pÃÆÃâÃâÃÂ¥ermanenet

Long live the mighty runite warhammer, the only guardian defending f2p from overpower of tank pures!

Is hard just at low combat, just train some combat, hp levels with dlong then do monkey madness ;)

Then i suggest in quest tunel to use super energy pots and run all the time, then you need antipoison and pray pots too and some food, tunel is one from hard stages of this quest i done it walking but i a bit not died in this way, better is to run all the time, then you get much less damage and done it faster!

Suggestion: You can use Anchor on Waterfiends - is cheap if to compare to GS & effective with crush attack & it hit like Whip.

Something I learned from starfleet command 3. In it all phasers (and phaser substitutes) have 2 versions at each level. You normall one and a fast version which fires twice as fast at 70% damage with the same accuracy. In a firefight you want fast ones (normally) because if you miss you recover trwice as fast. Of couse if you go for normall you maximum damage at one time is better.

Scimitar will proboly wpork out better in teh long run.

Monkey Madness is quite easy at 70 combat or higher. It might be difficult without a quest guide, but with one, it is just the time it takes that may annoy you. The Dragon Scitimar is well worth the trouble, as it is one of the most effective strength training weapons in the game. There are better, but they don't even compare with the price.

I hope your joking. Dream Mentor is easy and Contact! is just annoying.
