November 22, 200718 yr they are probably being abused with a 100% certainty as we speak.Unlikely. They are more likely to sit on these details for months possibly even years before registering accounts in the childrens names. Those children ages 17 are the ones most likely to have their identities used by criminals when they turn 18. I know what you're thinking of, but then again, most people recieving the child care on their bank accounts are adults, correct me if this is not the custom in the UK... At least in the US, I don't know many families where the money is paid on the child's bank account (and in most cases, a young kid doesn't even have one). It's paid on the parents bank account (therefore, their identity is recorded), and they spend it ideally on their children and their welfare/hobbies [or booze..] Yeah, that's how it works. The parents/guardians receive the money on the instruction that they spend it on the child. However, the info in the disks is not particularly damaging, but it does contain information which were not entirely known to the public before. Details include: Child's Name(s), Child's DOB, Address, maybe Post Code. You could probably find that out on your own with a bit of searching, but it does make identity theft slightly easier. Oh, and it's not Brown who will suffer, the public don't vote Brown (Or any other PM for that matter, unlike the Presidential system in the US) in directly. The people who suffer are the Labour Party as a whole, who vote in the PM. Asking my parents (Who claim child benefit, and so their (and my) details are on that disk) about this whole fiasco, and they are pretty annoyed about it. And I'm sure the feeling is mutual for anybody else out there who has had his/her details leaked like this. My trust in the government is really wearing thin. I sure hope the Tories do a better job. In fact, I think that if the Tories prove hopeless... Let's not go there. Someone else can stir up a revolution. ~ W ~

Your forgetting it also includes the bank account details of the people who recieve the benefits, along with their names DOB's national insurance number which is much more helpful. there are no stupid questions just way too many inquisitive idiots balance is scary to people who like things easy for them
November 22, 200718 yr Yes the adult has their bank details there but there's not enough information on the parents to clone the full identity, that's what I was getting at. November 23, 200718 yr Two things shock me.... 1. That 25 million people in Britain are claiming child benefits... that's 38% of the population!!! No wonder there's no money left for anything else 2. That our prime minster Gordon Brown is getting the blame. Yer.... it's his fault some low level clerk whom he's never met or even knew existed, messed up the postage on something neither he nor his party have actual direct control over. Gotta love the British press.... if there's a mole hill somewhere, they'll build a mountain (then probably blame the mole for it)politicians are useless everywhere now a days, the only thing they're good at is finding ways to blame their opponents.
