When are people finally going to realize that simplistic game design does not automatically mean "kiddy", or "little substance". There's a certain audience that finds quick and easy games such as Tetris, more enjoyable than spending hours comleting quests on GTA. They don't have to be little infants with diapers strapped on their back side.

Thats the way I feel really. Even the games that are unique to the system feel like they're something I should have been playing at home years ago when PS1 was out.

Completly agreed. I don't know about everyone else but often times when you're using a handheld you don't have time to sit down for hours on end. One of the nice things I always found about the DS is that you could just close the lid and it would pause your game / put the DS into sleep mode. It's a nice little feature that is really nice when you're actually traveling and have to do something else quickly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But as far as the games go like I said before, those people who think that these games like Mario and tetris are of little substance must not have gamed back in the day much. To expand on that most of the DS games actually have a lot of substance in them through the touch screen, it really adds another level to gameplay.

 

 

 

Sometimes though I just want to chill back and play something quick and fun. As I said before the DS feels more like a handheld to me than the PSP.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyways my experience with the PSP has been as far as playing my little brother's one extensively when we were on vacation. One big problem with the PSP is the battery life is abnormal, it doesn't last long until it is gone. My DS (on the other hand) I had last for incredibly long. This thanksgiving I was playing it a lot, and from wens-friday night I was playing it at least 4-5 hours a day while watching TV. It ended up finally dying on me some time (late) friday night, I think I got like 15 hours out of it easily -- maybe more IDK.

now have ds lite and psp slim.

The DS lite looks incredibly sexy IMO, It's a good looking handheld.

 

 

 

And if someone wants they can take those game lists of mine and compose it into ports/not ports. IIRC really the only 'ports' on the DS are Super mario 64, Mario kart and, uh.. yoshi's island? (don't remember).

3 hours, yes. how long are you in a car for? how long are you on a vacation playing hours straight, ya nice vacation doing something you can do at home? how much free time do you have on lunch break?

 

you said yourself that you only like to whip it out and play for a bit.

 

 

 

point is unless you're just stupid and don't like plugging it in at night when you're not playing then yes you will run out of battery

i'd play about 1 hour of my free time at most a day on either handheld and just leave it charging over night.

i've had the ds and psp, i own the ds lite and psp slim. i'm not saying the ds lite is horrid looking, but you guys are saying the psp is so ugly that it shouldn't be bought. i don't like the appearance of one over the other because i don't f'ing care. if the ds or psp looked like a bowl but still played the games i enjoy, i'd still buy it. as they are now, i'd say they are both very sleek, but i wouldn't choose one over the other according to the looks

Please, I never said don't buy the PSP because it is ugly -- stop putting words in my mouth. I do think the DS looks better than the PSP, and I think that the design is more functional. The PSP's screen can get scratched easily if it is in your pocket because it isn't protected while the DS Lite folds up.

When you were searching, were you searching for the DS"fat" or the DS lite? The DS lite at the lowest screen setting is still perfectly easy to see.

It's not a static value, as you probably saw some PSP owners post here, they said they could get "a good 3 hours on it. The tested 6 hours could be on a blank PSP which is turned on without a game inside for all you know.

 

 

 

The only thing that should matter is how long it can stay turned on when you are playing a game on it. :) (Or, well, alternatively on the PSP: How long you could surf the internet with it)

The DS has a lot of original games for it, while the psp is mostly just ps1 games. Which is their intention. I have a cyclods, which can play music etc..

 

Battery live does matter. If you've ever been on a car, bus, plane trip, you would know.

my timing was based upon multiplayer thru wifi in socom, but if you're playing single player, it will probably last 6+ of straight playing. i've never let it that low though.

 

yes it's maybe half of the ds' battery life, but like i said before. how often are you gonna be on the road for 6+ hrs or riding a plane?

 

I know for certain just having music going on the psp, it will last the whole day because i forgot to turn it off and checked the next day and it was still going

 

 

 

Either one you buy, you won't go wrong. both have their strong points and weak points

Either handheld is quite good, both have their faults. Some prefer the all-in-one, more graphical PSP while others prefer the simplicity and original titles of the DS.

 

 

 

While I do prefer the PSP, it really does come down to personal preference.
