Retefael
I know people are trying to decide over PS3/360/Wii, but what about the handhelds? I have neither, but I definitely have, and still cherish, my GBA from about 5 years ago. So the question is: DS or PSP? In my opinion, the DS is better. Sure it doesn't lay music and doesn't keep photos, but that's what iPods are for. :D It can play GBA games (that's a biggie), classic big N franchises, a slew of good games, and TWO SCREENS + STYLUS. Can't go wrong there. I don't run races to see who's the fastest, I run to see who has the most guts. -PreCurrently the best beat out there:Minuit jacuzzi (DatA Remix) - TEPR

Caxis
I too suggest a DS. After looking at the PSP library, the only game I want to play is Final Fantasy Tactics, but that's more of a nostalgia thing :-w But still, check out both of the game libraries. nine naked men
Yeah, PSP is good for little accessories and the like, but I think the better games are on the DS atm. And, the stylus rules. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
Mr_Putter
It's basically the same as the console race, except this one is slightly more tilted in DS favour. If you're really into Nintendo games, then it's obvious what to get. The DS also has pretty good third-party support, especially for puzzle and strategy games. On the other hand, if you want more, dare I say, serious games like shooters (disregard Metroid for a minute), war games, crime games etc. etc. etc., this is probably more likely what you want. Sports are also really good on the PSP, and the multimedia features are sweet (PSOne games please?). This is similar to the console race, except that Wii happens to have significantly less third-party support there. So to recap: Nintendo-made games and casual games: DS Generally more serious games, and sports games: PSP There's also a degree of variation, this is just general. Lionheart_0
DS for sure. Better games (except the damn FF7:crisis Core for psp which I want to play!) and a much wider selection of them. Plus the touch screen is really innovative! And also, if one gets the special flash carts for the DS slot, one could make the DS play music and I think even videos! Abelmisi
DS. I don't really have much time to write a long post now, but let's just say it has a game library from which you'll definitely be able to pick a game that interests you.
Straw_Hat
psp is my choice, i have both but i use my psp alot more they both have equally good games. ds: zelda, metriod, mario, pokemon, final fantasy psp: metal gear solid, socom, final fantasy, grand theft auto but yea web browser, music, photos, videos. makes my ipod useless since it does all that stuff + games you wouldn't go wrong with either though because both have enough to keep you entertained Kaizoku
Nadril
I used to be a bit on the fence about this (leaning towards the PSP) until I got my hands on a DS. At first my roomate just got one, and got Phantom Hourglass for it. It was at that moment that all my complaints about the touch screen being gimmicky vanished, as that game used it brilliantly. In reality I enjoy the DS over the PSP for several reasons. The first, to be honest, is cosmetic. Because the DS (lite) folds into its self it protects the screen whenever it is in your pocket. The PSP to me feels more of just a 'mini console' than it does an actual handheld, because it seems more fitting to be carried in a case. The new slim model at least changed up its size but the screen still is too unprotected for my likings and gets dirty easy. (going off of my little brothers PSP I have used in the past). Game wise it's a difficult decision. Both handhelds have matured well, however, I still think I enjoy the DS's library over the PSP. The big reason is that it seems like a lot of big name games on the PSP are simply remakes of older PS1 games. I won't lie, the DS has it's good share of remakes as well but overall it seems like there is a bit more originality stemming from the system. Games like new super mario bros were a breath of fresh air. (even if it was another mario game). Likewise the remakes are done well, such as Super mario 64 DS and Mario Kart. Homebrew is the next, very major, thing. While the PSP can effectively run 'better' homebrew (I speak from a purely technical standpoint) it is also much more dangerous to homebrew on a PSP. You need to modify firmware which means that some games of yours may just not work at all. To be honest I just don't see the PSP with that large of a homebrew community. Well, than we have the DS. For something like $70 (an R4DS card + EZ Flash 3 and 1 + 2GB microSD) you can have all of the features of the PSP and much more. While the PSP means you need to modify firmware with the DS all you have to do is put in the cartridge and you're good to go. The DS has an incredibly large homebrew community, and there are tons of great ports for the system. Doom, quake, Duke nukem 3D... they've all been ported over to the DS. Likewise there are web browsers for the DS, word processers (yes), and even paint programs that really transform what the DS can do. Of course there are also completly homebrew games, some which are quite good. Because of the touch screen it really allows homebrew devs to have some fun and really innovate. Likewise it is easy to run SNES emulation, GBA emulation (with the EZFlash) and even DS emulation for you dirty pirates out there. There are other emulators as well in works (IIRC There is a genesis one in the works atm) if you just look around. Price wise the DS, obviously, wins. For $130 for the system its a great buy, Hell I got the DS and 3 good games for under $200. That's what I think at least. Trying to not have much bias, but it's hard considering how much fun the DS really is.

Bloodredsword
Ds. You can even mod your ds to hold songs and crap (That's very inadvisable though..so don't try it on your own :P). Ds has better games, and higher replay value for most of them. And its cheeper. Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword. Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board! Biabf
I'd say get the PSP. I have the DS Lite and it is crap, once I can be bothered I'll sell it. I know lots of people don't care about graphics, but the games on the DS are stupidly poor, the PSP is a lot better. Also the games on the DS are pretty bad, there is the odd good game but I suggest if you aren't younger than 12, get the PSP.

There are still a lot of good games on the system. Maybe it is just me but I really find the DS library superior (although both library's are quite good). To be honest the biggest thing I like about the DS is it doesn't just try to be a mini console. I know a lot of people enjoy that sort of thing, but honestly the PSP at most times just feels like I'm carrying a mini PS1 around instead of a new handheld console. Biabf
I never said Mario games in particular were kid's games, but I do think the Mario image has been overused by Nintendo: Mario Tennis Mario Football Mario Kart Mario Brawl Mario Kart Mario Super Bros Mario Olympics Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 Mario Party Super Mario 64 DS Mario Basketball Mario Hoops Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time Super Mario Galaxy ETC. Mamong
I'm going to have to go with PSP on this one. I've had mine for quite a while now (I think about 2 years almost) and I am very happy with mine. I have a library of quite diverse games that give me a wide range of games to play. Not having an iPod, my PSP not only plays games, I can also listen to music, videos and surf the net without needing to buy a bunch of different things. (DS needs all those things you mentioned, PSP needs a Memory Stick and away you go) It is simpler to just plug in my memory stick and away I go. Just my two cents worth. You honestly think games such as Mario, Tetris and Yoshi's Island are games of 'little substance'? Likewise WarioWare is a mini games collection (bassicly) so I don't know why you'd bother putting that in. Also a DS really only needs an R4D4 (and the micoSD card to go in it) for most of that stuff. The EZ Flash 3 in 1 is only needed if you want to play GBA ports. jjrox32
My phone can already play music and stuff like that. I have a DS because I bought a handheld to play games, not carry my entire computer in my pocket. That and the fact that the PSP has a control scheme that's more frustrating than expert mode on GH3. Mamong
I'm going to have to go with PSP on this one. I've had mine for quite a while now (I think about 2 years almost) and I am very happy with mine. I have a library of quite diverse games that give me a wide range of games to play. One thing I will say though, if you DON'T have a PS2, you will enjoy the PSP more. I have a PS2 that I barely use and I prefer using those titles (the ports) on my PSP because I don't use my PS2. I'm agreeing with Biabf here, I don't like the DS library. It seems too kiddy for me (say what you like, that's what I believe) and presented with libraries from both, I would be able to pick more games that I would enjoy on a PSP then a DS. I've looked at Nadril's list and bolded all the kiddy/little substance games and there are a lot of them on there. [hide=Nadrils DS list]1. Mario Kart DS DS Nintendo 77 8.9 92.0% 2. Games like tetris, are little substance. Jazz it up all you like, all you are doing is playing the same puzzle over and over. A friend of mine has a DS, and I have played some of those games, and I can say, from my own opinion, that they are too kiddy in my opinion. See them as you wish, that's just me.
