Cheaters, Liars, and assorted undesirables

Why is it that so many RS players don't even realize that they were part of the problem that brought us to where we are now?

Drop traders, pile jumpers, and even gold sellers act like they lost something to which they were entitled. If you were one of them, let me clue you in - you were part of the problem! These updates happened to stop you!

Traded items or gold to your pure? You are the scum that brought this on! Accepted real world money or favors or anything else for RS gp? You too! Spent your time attacking or taking advantage of newer, naive players? Welcome to the club.

It's called an mmoRPg - the RP stands for Role Playing. That means that the player and the character are completely seperate. That means if you have more than one character(account), they are even farther seperated.

I have now seen multiple threads where tipiters (of whom I generally expect better) have asked how they are supposed to move items to their pures!!!! Others have expressed the awful loss of not being able to attack defenseless newbs in the wild, instead of fighting those who actually wish to fight.

Maybe it is inherent in a mostly free, browser-based game. Maybe it was just how easy it used to be to get away with it, but cheating in this game had become so rampant, that we all should have seen this coming.

I participate here in TipIt because it usually seems to be a good collection of players who have the best interests of the game (instead of themselves) at heart. Maybe it is the severity of the updates, but the worst of our collective selves seems to be coming out. I've never written a lot here, but I have read a lot. Maybe I was in the wrong place, but I hope that this is an aberration. Even Queltar, with whom I usually have a disagreement or two, posted "Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish" with which I completely agreed.

Please tell me TipIt is better than this, and we are not overwhelmed by juvenile, self-centered, inhumane players. TipIt was one of the few things that made me feel RuneScape was worth saving, that a community still existed out there somewhere. I would really like to know if there is a silent majority out there who feel the same way.

Had you ever tried honorable, solo PKing? Have you tried Bounty Hunter, really?

If so, you'd appreciate the world of difference between a true PKer, and the sort of player you clearly feel such angst against.

For the record, all bounty hunter does is promote the banner of inbred 1 iteming, luring scum you seem to lump all PKer's under. Whilst also giving no incentive for honorable PKers to continue playing.

As a PKer and long time player I'm flattered by your opinion of me.

I would be lieing to say I have never drop traded to a pure account, but at the same time I am not complaining about the latest round of updates, nor the trading restrictions to come. They will affect the way I play of course but I will adapt and try to help others adapt as well.

During the time I drop traded (from main to 2 pure accounts) there were few bots, few RWT, but heaps of fresh pures. I made myself a couple and fitted them out with the best F2P gear around ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ you know a few rune scims and some training food plus 100k cash each or so to replenish what was lost..

Do I consider myself part of the problem leading to the latest changes? Not at all. RWT were the ones who macroed to the brink of insanity, raking in cash through yews, nats, drag bones, hides etc. The ability to drop trade/death pile trade allowed these guys to xfer goods, and a loophole they happily used especially once staking was removed.

My 400k total drop trading experience did in no way contribute to this update, it merely exposed the same loophole that has been in existence since day 1, and allowed me to have some fun in wildy competing against the majority of players out there.. pures.

I have given out over 3M in prizes last month to members of my main clan for training ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ I won̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t be able to do this anymore which is a shame, but not something to quit RS over.

Pile jumpers? I sincerely hope you have actually played Bounty Hunter, because pile jumping is now called being a rogue and he who is top of that list is essentially boasting being #1 Pjer in RS. Jagex changed pjing from being not only accepted, but now its applauded! I guess Pjers did influence the change then?

I too read Queltar̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s "Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish" with which I completely disagreed. All pures are not scum, so don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t generalise.

Tipit community is still strong, and the ones whining/moaning so hard about updates they threaten to quit are the ones we should be helping out the door. The in game community has changed significantly since I started playing, yet I enjoy the game still primarily through interaction with clanmates and setting new in game goals to achieve (or try for a few days and start a new goal!)

I don't believe I ever said ALL pkers were part of the problem, and I actually agree with you about BH. It promotes pjers and teamers because it has no single combat area -- which it desperately needs.

Given my druthers, I would bring back the PvP/PvE switch so players could decide for themselves whether or not to participate in PvP. I also would not have put BH in place given that gravestones seem to answer the problem of transferring wealth via PKing. The old wild would seem to work fine with gravestones in place.

One of the great things about RS that has now been lost is that a player could never participate in PvP but still interact with those who did. Making pots or ammys or other supplies without being stuck on a non-pvp world was a great advantage to the economy. Skillers and PKers were not kept apart. We have lost a lot of that now, but the players still brought it on ourselves.

I addressed my comments specifically to those who made the game less fun for others through particular actions. I don't appreciate your putting words in my mouth any more than you appreciated my alleged generaliztions.

I agree with a lot of the post.

It is more of a rant than general discussion tho?

also I am not someone who has ever been taken advantage of in the wild, I've been hit by lure teams and PJ'ed many times, but surely that is the risk of being in the wild.

I don't PJ or like PJ'ers but I accept them as a risk of being in the wild.

The wilderness update was purely to do with RWT not pj'ers, do you have any evidence to suggest it is?

Also what would say is PJ'ing?

I don't understand exactly why drop trading is bad, but i can safely say i never did it. Hard to drop trade with just one character :) .

Yeh, it really is their faults we have to endure this... idiocy. Hopefully they will leave, at least leave some consulation prize after all this.

And the MMOG part stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Game. Jagex took a lot of the Multiplayer interaction out of their Game with the recent updates.

Yes, trading is a big part. But now they rip off WoW and their auction house (Grand Exchange)
