Why can't Jagex take them down?

Well it's been lingering on my mind for quite a few days now and I was wondering why can't Jagex eliminate the RWT sites or bring some legal actions in place?

 

 

 

We all know the sites that RWT and they even advertise in game. So why can't Jagex do this? I've seen some youtube videos featuring rs clients that were taken down by Jagex Ltd. ( :thumbsup: )

There's a lot of websites out there that have stuff like this, and they mainly rely on players to report them to them.

 

 

 

However, with the recent major setback to RWT and bots, it would appear that these sites may have shut themselves down. (If not all, most.) I think Jagex could care less about legal actions, that's just a bonus. What they really want is for them to go away.

Along with that, there are so many of them, as soon as you get rid of 1, another one comes along to take its place.

as platypus summed up perfectly, avoiding legal action and settling the problem with game updates from the comfort of Jagex towers helps settle the arguement and saves trouble.

There are just too many of them for Jagex to approach and if they are indeed taken down, they can always start up a new one.

K guys thanks for the responses. I think I understand now. But i sorta feel bad for Jagex because they have to take a paycut for what criminals do.

Im not sure this is true but i think it comes into the companies home countries law. For example i heard it is very hard to take down chineses gold shops under chinese law but this way jagex has complelty screwed them over so it also avoids the hefty cost of lawyers involved (my friends dad is a average earning lawyer and he charges over 2000 euro a day to work on a case.)

Consider sites that offer free music, movies, games torrents etc... illegal of course yet there's hundreds of them.

 

 

 

If huge music labels and Hollywood studios with massive cash and the best lawyers can't close illegal sites like that... then what chance does a comparitively lowly company like Jagex got at closing down the arguably lesser problem of RWT sites?

Err hi despite it goes in against ethical reason we have now decided to take away a rather big moneymaking factor for people in china and we are also sueing your boss. We are sure that Chinese goverment will gladly help us.

 

 

 

Then again Jagex has contacts with lawyers specialised into online gaming and such (there are special compagnies of those). Then again it actually costs Jagex (as far as I can guess) to prosecute.

 

 

 

 

 

Those RWT sites pop up like mushrooms out of the ground anyway though, so if you take one down there is already another one so why even bother ... in the end you'll lose alot on cash and time if you have to keep getting hosts to get renters of servers their site down because of this "illigal" activity which goes on on them.

Well its very slippery business, trying to prove to a bunch of non-gaming judges that somehow a different gamestyle (cheating) is ruining a game and causing Jagex a loss of profit.

 

 

 

Also, as the Tainted Ones proved, you can avoid a ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã1 million pound fine for cheating by simply changing your site to a pony fanclub, although they still have their shadier areas of the site.

And then you've got actually finding the criminals like the owners of Gold4gold who still haven't been found.

 

 

 

Also as soon as you take down one, another appears with a mysteriously similar resemblance to the old one :-k . :uhh:

 

 

 

getting permission to remove websites from the web is not easy; takes months.

Especially since you could easily take the domain (assuming Jagex hasn't grabbed it) and go to a new bulk host that couldn't care less what you're using the website for.

 

 

 

Or better yet, get a version of Windows Server, and host the website yourself.
