Princess Viola
My new skill is: Boat Building and since it is a medium length suggestion. Please read the whole topic before flaming. [hide=Overview]Have you ever wanted to go to Karamja or Entrana without paying 30gp? With Boat Building you can! When you construct (no relation to construction) your boat the main items you will need are: Planks, Anchor (bought from Boat Supply store or smithed at level 25 smithing), and a mast with a sail (bought from Boat Supply Store). When you finish your boat, you can choose if only you can ride it, your friends can use it, or anyone can use it. You can also hire crewmen who are NPCs who can command your boat when you're not logged in.[/hide] [hide=Shops]The only new shop to be introduced is the Boat Supply Store in Port Sarim. In this shop you can buy: Anchors (200gp) and masts (500gp)[/hide] [hide=Random Events]Pirates: What happens is pirates will raid your ship in a effort to rob you. When the random happens you are presented a map of the ship and the map highlights where the pirates are. When you defeat the last pirate he will drop a key and a chest. When you open the chest you can get: a cutlass, 1/3 of a Pirate Sail, coins (100-5000), various gems, or 1/3 of a Treasure Map. The Pirate Mast can be used to make your ship more piratey, if you will. The cutlass is a weapon, mainly for show, but is a decent weapon for low-mid level players. The Treaure Map shows you the location of a secret treasure and what the reward is. Some of the treasures are: Diamonds, Half a Key (Members), coins (1000-50000), or Pirate Amulet (increases chances of getting a Treasure Map piece by 15%[/hide] [hide=Minigame]This skill will also introduce a new minigame: Ship Wars! In this game you can battle other people in a high seas adventure. When you go into the docks you have 3 options for what kind of battle you want to be in: [hide=Individual]If you choose to be an individual, that means you can only fight one other individual. With no help at all from ANYONE.[/hide][hide=Navy]If you choose Navy, you can join an armada of 2 or more ships to battle other Navies. You can even form your own Navy and let other people join![/hide][hide=Pirate]Arr, tiss a Pirate you want to be, matey? Well, if you choose to be one, you have access to any kind of battle. When you're a Pirate you can: Sabatoge other peoples battles, Board other ships and kill their crewmen, and rob their ship![/hide]Remember: This is a SAFE minigame meaning if a Pirate kills you, you will retain ALL your items and simply teleport back to the cabin of what ever ship you're on.[/hide] [hide=How does this tie in with other skills?]You can attack crewmen as a pirate for combat experience. You can smith anchors at level 25 smithing with 5 Iron bars (125xp). You gain 30 Crafting xp when sewing together the Pirate Sail. A small amount of Theiving xp (Members) when robbing crewmen as a Pirate. (Free-Plays can still rob but, won't get any xp). You can smith cannons at level 15 smithing for Ship Wars granting 100xp. You can also cut down trees to use the wood for planks. (xp depends on kind of tree)You also gain crafting experience when repairing a damaged sail after playing Ship Wars.[/hide] [hide=NPCs][hide=Captain Hickle]The owner of the Boat Supply store[/hide][hide=Crewmen]The crewmen are the crew of your ship. They can even steer your ship for you![/hide][/hide] [hide=Skill Cape]The Skill Cape can be bought for 99000gp from Captain Hickle. The cape which displays a picture of a boat is aqua. And for the trim is goldenrod. The cape emote is you build a small boat, sit in it, and a pool of water appears and you row your boat in the water.[/hide] This concludes my suggestion any ideas are welcome I am working on my pictures. gg_kk90
yeah i think its a great idea so we can have use for the waters on runescape. well i think ill support! 1 question. how do we get the xp? we build thousand of boats? or by capturing the pirates, other players boat? which is not related to boat making
Princess Viola
You would get the xp by building and repairing boats. Example: Building a Level 1 rowboat grants 8 xp.
bubbyjoe2
How about the ability to smith cannons out of metal for more firepower?

Alex_Ewan_1
can't boat building just be added onto woodcutting in some way. As most of a boat is made out of wood? Princess Viola
Hmm, that's a good idea, I'll add that. :)
bubbyjoe2
I support this idea, it would fit well with my railroad idea. Both are means of multiplayer mass transit, yours is on water, mine is land.
Brian1454
nice made skill. but i think it would be a problem with getting xp
Princess Viola
Actually, getting the xp would be fairly easy. You'd get experience if you win the minigame. You'd get some experience when you put together the boat and repair it, and a little experience when smithing anchors and cannons. (300xp for cannon and 150xp for anchor). blaah
The concept and minigame seem good, but your suggestion is a little vague. What kinds of ships could you build? How many planks/nails would be required for each kind? How do you make wood into planks? Would type of log be related to type of ship? Would type of ship relate to how many passengers it could carry? Would navies tie into clans? Would you be able to sail to Crandor? Sorry if that was overwhelming, but there is a lot missing. I support the concept, but you need a little more of an explanation of how it is a full skill. /FG/First thread post to when I joined the family.[hide=Insert rant here]blahblahblahLIFE[/hide]
Runeman231
I hate to say it, but suggestions of boat building, and Player-owned boats, etc are far too frequent. Not to mention that we don't need a whole skill just to build boats. Add on to Construction? Or even Woodcutting if that makes you happy. Overall, I'm just tired of seeing suggestions for POB, no matter how good they are... :shame: :-w
Happysniff
Many, many things wrong: 1 - It is already likely that summoning will be an f2p skill, so why do f2ps need this skill? 2 - 30 gp is jack all 3 - boat building would come under the category of construction 4 - Your suggestion is not really well thought out. You need to go nito full details ie. what types of boats you can build, the levels required etc 5. The color of the boat building cape is exactly that of the fishing cape
Princess Viola
First off, we have no proof that summoning will be free to play!!!! Secondly, I had no idea the skill cape was the colours of the Fishing Cape.
edboy27
i think boat building should be a part of construction instead...and a new skill can be sailing, and you choose good or bad (navy or pirate, for example) and the better sailing skill the better boats you can do, manuevers, iono o.O edboy27 is a secondary account made main. not noob
Kingtygy
A nice idea, I like it, but unfortunately, I don't think it will happen anywhere in the near future. I support though, even though it's not very nessecary, it'd be fun to have a boat... Also, someone had a question about exp. Maybe, you could rename the skill to sailing, which would kinda suit it better. Wel, here are my ideas, feel free to use them change them, or completely ignore them. You could get exp for... Building your boat (there could be different kinds of boats, so there would be reason to trash your old boat. Certain boats could give you different benefits like how many people you can carry, etc.) Sailing to different places (Maybe you can only sail to certain places at certain levels too, like Karamja at level 1, Crandor at level... whatever) Defeating a band of Pirates ....... Winning in one of the Boat Minigames ......... yeah. Well, just afew ideas of mine that you could improve your idea with. Just one question though, could you store items in your ship when sailing to wherever, this would be useful for sailing to places without a bank.... Penguin Power!^The last great war of the Wilderness....Yeah, I don't have a cool signature, so the MSSW3 sig will have to do....

Lunar_Drifter
Naval Construction? No thanks. We don't need a skill for building things.. we've already got Construction. If anything, it could be added on to that, with tie-ins to woodcutting, smithing, and crafting. I'm also assuming this would be a money-sink. Killy_the_Kid
Quite Interesting.... However there needs to be more things that give xp besides making the ship and minigames. Also, it could be used as a f2p shortcut; i.e., you go to the shore, call up your crew, they come to you, and you go to any other passable shore in the world. However (!), you need a bigger ship to go farther distances, which requires a higher lvl. Elaborate more, you have my full support. Hyt Chat FOREVERI have quit RuneScape.
