To clarify my point, because I am not as affected by emotion it is very rare that I lose my temper and do something foolish because of it. However the tradeoff is that since I am not as affected by emotion I can not relate as much as I would like with other people, lacking a large part of the common experience that binds society together. Another advantage is that it is somewhat easier to choose to do what is best rather then what will make me feel best, so it is very easy for me to save money for the future or ignore company x's new advertising campaign... However to gain this advantage I forfeit being able to gain as much happiness out of life as people who are more heart-driven.

Stop reading out of my head o_O.

Kinda creepy how well I fit your description... you wouldn't happen to be my long lost twin, would you?

You're not the only one, reb.

However, in about the last year I've learned how to really feel when I want to...something along the lines of a heightened sense of empathy. Ever watched that "Kiwi!" video on youtube? I cried for a few minutes after watching it... absolutely beautiful.

Same thing goes for movies, oddly enough. I've never cried during a movie until recently. Though if I choose, I can go to my old self and merely examine things, no emotions attached.

Totally with you. If you liked the song to Kiwi (Mad World by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews - I've listened to it 1789 times to date) then you'll like Comptime D'un Autre Ete L'apres Midi...or just look up 'the piano' in Youtube lol. By Yann Tiersen.

Hey some nice posts.

There is some difference between the Tip forums and the Runescape ones. I had this on the Runescape ones and it was filled with useless stuff.

That's because I'm here.

No, I've found everybody here to be more caring anyway.

Heh, we are having a similar debate in my TOK (Theory of Knowledge) class. Except we were debating emotion vs. logic. I'd profoundly choose logic, and thus the brain over heart.

Aye - when I read the title I thought of logical or emotional based decisions. That being the case, I'm 90% logical. The rare times I stray into emotional is when I'm tilting on poker, or rage in a game <.<

Yep, no matter how rational I try to stay, the 'fish' in poker that call a queen all the way up to river while raising the pot and get lucky straights, 3-of-a-kinds after they hit totally nothing on the flop... Just drives me over the edge.

I can now control it, but even just 3 years ago I had pretty bad anger issues over idiots whose gameplay had no coherence whatsoever; It's as if they wanted to play a losing strategy intentionally :P

To think... I couldn't give two damns if some drunks started arguing with me in a bar or calling me names/trying to fight with me, and shrug it off within a minute... But there's just something about people who win in poker with pure dumb luck and say "it's just skill" Need to cool down for a few hours after constantly falling victim to these 'fish' and keep losing AA against 3-9 offsuit...

Or those who call with bottom pair when the board reads:

3 Q 10 and then hit a fullhouse with runner-runner 3 x :uhh:

Strip poker isn't a good game to suggest when you don't know how to play, wouldn't you agree Rick? :-k

Yeah well I could do with out all these people who misunderstood the question :|

I think you were quite clear in asking your question, not that hard to understand it :)

Myself, a bit of both I'd say. I like to think I'm a logical (brain) person , but sometimes, when logic is telling me, "yes, this is what you should do and you can clearly see this is the right thing to do" my gut felling (my heart) tells me otherwise. Sometimes I follow that feeling, sometimes I don't.

nice question

oober

edit:just realised you were'nt the one who asked the question. oh well nevermind, still a nice question.

Your brain.

Your heart is controlled by the brain.

Exactly, plain and simple.

Without the brain you would have no emotion, senses, or feelings what so ever. The heart only pumps blood throughout the body, while the brain is somewhat like the "command center" in the body.

Not exactly, not plain and simple. The question isn't asking if one's heart plays any role in your actions. Heart is a metaphor for emotion/passion. Based on your answer though, I'd guess the brain for you, since you think so analytically to not even realize the metaphor most everyone else does.

Anyone who took this as a literal question, time and time again is an idiot.

Edit: To answer the question I would claim that in the past it has been my brain; recently I have been undergoing the opposite. Not substituting one for the other but being more endorsing of emotion in certain ways. Maybe it is a realization of the very distinction of what is and what ought to be. Or maybe it is me being less aware of the distinction. Either way that̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s what is.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Brain, all your heart does is pump blood. There's no "feelings" in that.

You clearly don't understand the metaphorical idea behind the heart.

I think for most people it would be their heart. People always say they're going to be rational and take love slowly, but as soon as anyone meets someone they fall for rationality is the first thing to go. I say heart.

TOTALLY AGREE

that's why i avoid relationships until later...i don't need to be sacrificing my goals for someone else....call it a fear of committment, but it's the only way i know i won't do something stupid. like, i almost didn't apply for a study abroad program because i'd be gone for a year :\

now if she'd like to come along with me for the ride, then i'd have at it :)

The song I would think that's most relevant to this would be

The Head and The Heart by Chris de Burgh

Here are the Lyrics

Let us talk no more, let us go to sleep,

Let the rain fall on the window pane,

And fill the castle keep,

I am weary now, weary to my bones,

Weary from the travelling,

And the endless country roads,

That brought us here tonight, for this weekend,

And a chance to work it out,

For we cannot live together, and we cannot live apart,

It's the classical dilemma between the head and the heart;

She is sleeping now, softly in the night,

And in my heart of darkness she has been the only light,

I am lost in love, looking at her face,

And still I hear the voice of reason,

Telling me to chase these dreams away,

Oh here we go again, we're divided from the start,

For we cannot live together, and we cannot live apart,

It's the classical dilemma between the head and the heart,

The head and the heart;

Now the dawn begins, and still I cannot sleep,

My head is spinning round but now the way is clear to me,

There is nothing left, nothing left to show,

The jury and the judge will see, it's time to let her go,

Now hear the heart,

I believe that time will show,

She will always be a part of my world,

I don't want to see her go,

So I plead my case to hear the heart,

And stay...

It's time to let her go - I don't want to let her go...

It's time to let her go - I don't want to let her go...

It's time to let her go - I don't want to let her go...

It's time to let her go...

And in this classical dilemma,

I find for - the heart.

Here's the link to it on Youtube

Hm the smileys look weird...

On topic, if you passed the 3rd grade you'd know it's brain.

Huh what do you mean by that?(remember I don't mean it literally just metaphorically)
