July 6, 200817 yr Jagex has taken the decision to have Runescape HD a members-only beta. Do you reckon there is any reason for this other than to get more people signing up to membership? Do companies that do this really care about anything other than money? Seminiferous Tubule.
July 6, 200817 yr Maybe they want to give their paying customers more than the feeloaders? Exactly what Bruno said, if F2P want the graphics before the BETA is over (if to say they'll get them at all) then they should have to pay.
July 6, 200817 yr Author Maybe they want to give their paying customers more than some freeloaders? But then they're going to make the graphics for all? Seminiferous Tubule.
July 6, 200817 yr Author AFTER the beta period yes. However, no one knows how long that will last. And therefore that would suggest that Jagex is just making it for members only to attract more, paying players and therefore more money? Seminiferous Tubule.
July 6, 200817 yr It's like Halo 3 and the new map packs. If you want them now, you can buy, but they'll become free later. Also, can you imagine all the lag we'd have if f2p had HD as well? It was bad enough for most people when just p2p had it at first 621st person to achieve 99 slayer on December 3rd, 2007177th person to 99 summoning on June 21st, 2008
July 6, 200817 yr Money is the answer. Maybe there is a small motive of wanting to quiet down the idiotic P2Ps who immediately started to post "haha f2p got scrwed again" on the GameFAQs RSGB (otherwise a more or less hijacked board for intelligent people), but money is the real answer. You're being watched.
July 6, 200817 yr Author It's like Halo 3 and the new map packs. If you want them now, you can buy, but they'll become free later. Also, can you imagine all the lag we'd have if f2p had HD as well? It was bad enough for most people when just p2p had it at first Free servers are different to member servers though.. Isn't Jagex just becoming on of those companies that use people's desperation to make money? Seminiferous Tubule.
July 6, 200817 yr Doh, yes, they are. Now that people actually realised RS=fail, Jagex are trying everything to get the money back they lost from their bad solution to RWT. You're being watched.
July 6, 200817 yr It's just an advantage you have for being a member. You get first dibs on checking out the graphics and playing during the beta. Obviously, the beta will end at some point and the whole "ftp doesn't have HD!" will be a thing of the past. Just sit, wait it out and please, if you have any soul at all, stop trying to make a BUSINESS seem like money grubbing devils just because they are smart businessmen. -Man, I really do love Runescape, and I'm sure if it was a real person I would of asked it to marry me by now.
July 6, 200817 yr look at how much the members complained about lag at first. if it was in f2p lets do the math complaints x ~10 for the number of players x 20 for how much more lag there would be with that many ppl x 10 for the imaturity isues with f2p(not saying all f2p are 6 year olds, but have you been on any f2p server recently?) do the math and the amount of lag complaints is almost unbareable
July 6, 200817 yr How is it a cheap shot, they are a business, its good business. Also remember that its BETA, this means alot of bugs will be found and needed sending back to jagex. Is much more likely that members will find bugs and glitches and relay that back to jagex during this time than f2p players, why have f2p test the graphics if they won't help find the bugs? July 6, 200817 yr This thread isn't much discuessable anymore if you ask me. Why would F2P get to play HD at first release? Why would Jagex care about F2P...
July 6, 200817 yr i see nothing wrong with a company to want more members, paying customers. The whole point of f2p is to let people have a chance to try runescape before they spend anything. That way if u like the game enough you will buy members and be able to enjoy the game even more. F2p will get hd when all the bugs are ironed out, which will probally be in a couple months. Although they wont get fullscreen because they wouldnt be able to see ad's which make f2p, free.
July 6, 200817 yr Only the members have full access so anoly members can possibly find all the bugs. Also, since only members can post on the RSOF, only members can report bugs. Why would Jagex open up the graphics to all when not even half of them can actualy report or even discover many of the problems? Its not a buisness thing since giving the f2p a taste of HD (ie no full screen) would convince more people to try the free demo and later become members than a bunch of screen shots ever can. Look at it this way, when f2p gets HD they'll be getting a higher quality since most or all of the glitches will have been removed. We get full screen and you get a bug free release a couple months later. You accuse it of being a buissnes ploy like its some sort of evil scheme  Its actualy called making money, which oddly enough is the sole reson the game still exists.
July 6, 200817 yr It's probably easier for CS to deal with all the feedback if it is a smaller audience. Great way to do that is have it only members. You have a lot less people, a lot less lag, and a lot less confusion. Plus the side benefit of a few people switching.
July 6, 200817 yr Well what did you expect, a company is a company, and a company has to make money. What in the world is wrong and "cheap" about that? I don't understand why people keep whining about how the "eeeviilll" Jagex is out to get their money because they are capitalist pigs, and try to get people to sign up all the time with new exclusive content for members only every other week.
July 6, 200817 yr Runescape Classic -> Rs2 Beta was from December 1st 2003 -> March 29th 2004, SO yes. 4 Months, and if RSHD beta takes 4 months so be it, if you want to see it pay, you get more than just graphics you get a tonne more quests, skills, towns, monsters, armour weapons its worth the money.
July 6, 200817 yr There are also many logical issues with having a widescale live betatest. One of them is that the free population is bigger than the member one and roams in a smaller area. They would report the same bugs over and over and over again which I guess would not be very helpful to the developers working on Runescape HD. Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07.
July 6, 200817 yr Imagine all the millions of F2P trying to download the HD. That would cause some major, hardcore lag. Just thinking about the member lag gives me the chills... Proud Owner Of A Quest Cape As Of 4/29/08
July 6, 200817 yr I think HD should be members only. It what they pay for and whatnot. It also makes F2p want to join. You have to remember Jagex is company that grow and improves by making money. Im not boasting it becuase Im a member, Ive been F2p for about a year now. So im guessing, youll get out your tar and feather for my words. :ohnoes: I just came back from a long break. Back on bob.
July 6, 200817 yr F2P players complaining about not getting HD is like someone being given a free steak dinner and then complaining about not getting dessert. Welcome to the real world, kids: nobody owes you anything. You should be damned glad Jagex gives you F2P at all.
