Runescape ADS and Not being able to type...

Recommended Posts

I was gonna ask for help in Help and Advice, but i wanted to see if anyone else noticed it too.

The thing is, is that sometimes the Game screen goes off...

Like you can't type cause you haven't clicked into the game screen to type..

But sometimes i experience that the ADS, put me off from the screen and alot times i can't type at ALL.

When ADS put me off game screen , i just click my way back...

But when i can't Type at all = dont know if it's cause of ADS, i just refresh the page...

Has anyone else noticed this?

As in advertises...

Ah. Capitalization threw me off.

Ads suck, get firefox and adblock em  If Jagex was smart they would build sometime to detect adblock and not let you play if you have it enabled, I know some pages that can detect if you do or dont.

I am sorry but I am 100% against adblock. Yes ads do get annoying, but its the page creators decision to place in ads.

However jagex could REALLY easily fix this, They could simple "make" the ads part of the game client on F2P worlds. It would be quite easy tbh, Create some sort of file parser in java that reads which ads (images) need to be shown and randomly show them, this would stop adblock, but it would also stop the focus from getting off the client when ever it changes. This can also allow for them to remove the ad based on your accounts member status instead of the world status (IE: members on f2p world wont see ads, but f2p on f2p worlds will see ads).

I use ads on my websites to make some of the money back that I put in to host and to create that site, without ads I would lose alot more money then what I currently lose.

Its kind of like the current TV ads. People are starting to pay less for advertisements because alot of people have DVR and can fastfoward through commercials so buying space on tv gets less people then it used to.

You have to think about advertisements from the eyesof the creator, not the eyes of the customer.

I freaking hate the ads because they always screw up... It's happened a 100 times when I'm doing something and chatting with a person at the same time, I make a typo and press backspace right as the advert is changing which causes my browser to go back to the world select. :wall:

It actually only does this in FireFox, it seems to switch to the most recently active area of the screen (Aka the Ad) and marks that as the target area for your typing or clicks...which is very annoying.

You could always try to use another browser to use it, although I still prefer Firefox overall.

Exactly, Firefox is good to use. Wouldn't be using any other to be honest.

There is a handy button to report ads that take focus off the game window. If you do this then Jagex will remove it. Problem solved.

2 solutions.

1: on the off chance you are using vista, you should be using IE because in terms of security and preformance, the IE was made to work with the OS and firefox was not. And the not being able to wright anything outside of temp files without user permission in each instance only seems to work for IE.

2: I rember an anti-virus I once trialed (full trial). It that short time it proved superiaor to anything else I had used by combining anti-virus, adware and malware scaner/remover all in one. It also found stuff that nothing else on my computer found. Aside from that, it is an extremly effective ad blocker that actualy works unlike the one in forefox (from my experiance).

Thers a third option I guess. Since it seems to be a firefox issue you have, you might just use IE for runescape, and if you want to be careful using the big bad and evil IE, download there client (it uses IE) but takes you rigth to there site. You could also make runescape your homepage.

I remember the adds updating themselves when i was f2p and had to click inside the rs window again to be able to type.

I always had a bad habbit of clicking the backspace button when this happened. -.-

It was the f2p curse. Never had to refresh everything to be able to type though.

Or you got click on the stop-loading sign just before the ads load.

Ive looked at were the ADS are located, and i don't see what your mentioning...

When you load the runescape window and the client has loaded but not the ads, click on the stop button. It's usually a red X(no not the one in the right top of your screen ;) )

Ad free f2p \'

I use the down loadable runescape client, I dunno why I just don't like all the clutter. I have the same problems with ads. but if you right click the ad, and press stop, rewind and turn the quality down, I find that helps.

Cheers,

Ps, I also have firefox... how do you enable the ad blocker? :D

Firefox is more secure than IE. Being made to work with the OS has nothing to do with it, and in any case, Firefox was also made to work with vista.

I'll for companies using ads. As long as they're not flash ads or GIFs that cause my computer to use more resources than is needed. A simple banner is all they need, not one that has bloody smilies saying random things just to annoy you... :wall:
