F2P Runescape now has popups..

Solution: Firefox + Adblock Plus

Its that simple.

Or you could simply take 10 or twelve seconds (waiting to skip advert) and click "Skip".

Not everyone has computers that are able to run Runescape + multiple ads smoothly and cause no lag.

I do but I know many others do not.

You do know activly blocking adverts are against jagex rules right?

It was Jagex's fault that they decided to sneak in an unenforceable rule. I used to right click the ads and mess around with it, and eventually you could stop it from moving and lagging. Now, I play on members.

ya lol zoom in all the way, uncheck loop so it stops and your good for an hour :P

The title says it all. Your thoughts on this?

EDIT: I'm not complaining at all. I'm fine with it, and realize that these ads are the only reason I get to play for free

what pop ups?

Well jagex got lucky I paid for a full year now! I really hate the "pop-up/invasion adverts".. Pop ups are a way to aggressive form of advertisment: if a site has pop ups I won't visit it more than really needed.. So once my runescape subscription (28 july next year) runs out: and there are still pop ups, I'll quit runescape!

sorry but these kind of advertisements I don't support at all!

These aren't that bad, because at least they don't interrupt gameplay. They pop up for a few seconds and then get put behind the rs window.

Sad that Jagex didn't think it was enough with banners. I'm lucky to be P2P...

It wasn't enough. The new graphics aren't free, and F2P is lucky to even have HD, much less HD without ads. 10 seconds out of my time, and 1 click to close a window is DEFINITELY worth it, to play HD.

I've gotten one, but I'm fine with it. F2P is fun enough that I can live with both the "shake yo booty" ads and the "Arcanists! Fun!" ads. (lol, really. My popup was a picture of a big butt wearing a skimpy bathing suit. Isn't this supposed to be a kids' game?

You must play a different way than I do:

I often log out around every minut: so 10 seconds add up. Actually I only use rs to check if there are a few friends to chat with lately....

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

There is really pop ups? Has someone seen a Runescape related one? Because most of the time pop ups on Runescape mean that you have some type of adware on your computer, as Jagex doesn't (or didn't) accept popup advertisements.

I considered that, but I doubt it. The pop-up appears only on the Runescape client page, and I have a fairly good spyware/adware/virus program.

Yeah he is right, this was very recently implemented. When I first read this I thought he was talking about the ads on top of the page. But yesterday when I went to log in Firefox blocked 2 pop ups.

I turn my popup blocker for Runescape worlds because that is what pays for f2p, I also turn off the ad-blocker.

If you don't click them, you might as well block them. What pays for f2p worlds are people clicking the ads... cuz if you don't, then companies who want t oadvertise on Runescape.com will ntoice no1 clicks their ads.

Maaaan... This could come back to bite them in the bum- what happens if some twelve year old starts up Runescape and gets a pop-up for hot girls? I smell a lawsuit!

good thing that the U.K don't have a [bleep]ed law about sueing as the U.S :twss:

Eh, personally I don't think it's that bad at all, considering how much stuff just 10 seconds of my time can get me. However, it'd be nicer if there weren't as many bugs, because the skip button doesn't always skip and I have to reload the page. :x
