F2P Runescape now has popups..

The title says it all. Your thoughts on this?

EDIT: I'm not complaining at all. I'm fine with it, and realize that these ads are the only reason I get to play for free

Haven't witnessed a pop-up yet, but I have the skip adverts. I am completely fine with them. Additionally, since we have a resizable window now, heck, I'll skip two or three adverts now, and maybe even click on a few for fun. :D

I completely agree with you ::' F2P owns.

Edit 2: I'm not talking about the skip advert within the Runescape client. In free worlds, actual pop-up windows will open, such as the ones for tip.it. (Which I'm also completely fine with :) )

Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3

Meh, you only get one per screen. So if you keep the screen on for a year, only one pop-up. Tbh, f2p gets what it gets. Sorry, im NOT dissing f2p, im currently one myself. But JaGex doesn't HAVE to give you a good game.

Well, I think it was common knowledge that people were blocking the ad's before, whether with a Firefox add-on, or something else. If this gets around that, then that means Jagex continues to pay for the f2p servers hopefully. If f2p didn't have ads, there would be no f2p.

Judging that your proud to be 100% f2p (points to sig) there was a topic something about this, but back to the point I think the pop ups shouldn't even bother anyone, and if it bothers someone THAT much then *cough* pay $5.90.

ADs = FREE to play

So yea, Jagex needs money for f2p servers and this is how they get it. Nothing really more after that.

:-? Funny I haven't experienced pop-ups yet, but I do get the banner ads and the one where you have to click skip to continue on... But regardless, the ads have not bothered me seriously (except for a couple years ago where we had those horrible flash ads. PKers: Remember the Blooodworks ad with Clint Eastwood? ) because of their purpose, which is to help with costs of the servers, especially on the F2P side.

I would have to say the ones that would extend over your screen were the worst. That "anti-virus & spyware" one.

I haven't witnessed a popup yet, but I guess it's because the administrator of this computer blocks the advertisements. The reason being a lot of those advertisements have spyware/adware/viruses and if I took away the thing that blocked the advertisements, I wouldn't be able to use the computer anymore. After all, they're the owner of the computer, not me. So, at least I tried. ;)

Or you could simply take 10 or twelve seconds (waiting to skip advert) and click "Skip".

Not everyone has computers that are able to run Runescape + multiple ads smoothly and cause no lag.

I do but I know many others do not.

This is becoming quite annoying, I am a paying member and I am getting pop ups about 95% of the time I open the RuneScape Windows Client. Why is this?

My computer is clean of spam and spyware, and this issue just started happening today.

I suggest if Jagex wants to have pop ups that is fine by me, just don't issue me a pop up window when I am one of your paying members, especially since I've been paying loyally since p2p first began.

I suggest Jagex make two separate clients if they want to have pop up windows, one for f2p and another for p2p in which you would only be allowed to download the secure p2p client if you are a Paying Member when you log into the RuneScape website.

I never get pop ups, and pop ups are usually a sign you have a problem... You might want to start running scans and see what you can find. I don't ever get pop ups, but I get those stupid banner ads that lag everytime I change. All you have to do (I use Firefox not sure if it works with IE) you wait until an ad is about to change (Should see the bar in the bottom right) and click stop the banner ad will become black, and no more lag. \'

Maaaan... This could come back to bite them in the bum- what happens if some twelve year old starts up Runescape and gets a pop-up for hot girls? I smell a lawsuit!

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

I think that the poster of this topic is talking about the one you get when you log in, not during the game.

I don't find it annoying at all. We don't pay, so JAGeX has every right to add them into the game. And, it is only one, so hardly a hassle.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

what pop ups?

Well jagex got lucky I paid for a full year now! I really hate the "pop-up/invasion adverts".. Pop ups are a way to aggressive form of advertisment: if a site has pop ups I won't visit it more than really needed.. So once my runescape subscription (28 july next year) runs out: and there are still pop ups, I'll quit runescape!

sorry but these kind of advertisements I don't support at all!

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

It was Jagex's fault that they decided to sneak in an unenforceable rule. I used to right click the ads and mess around with it, and eventually you could stop it from moving and lagging. Now, I play on members.
