Well its obviously to make them look good. -Removing rants- But otherwise its kinda annoying for both jagex and players trying to find rant or compliment type threads.

 

 

 

Compliments will not only be hard to find but unless they increase the 50 pages then well.. They wont last very long compared to rants tbh.

 

 

 

I wouldn't 100% bet that they're merging rants and compliments, especially the people saying they're doing it to make themselves look better (Yea, making compliments even harder to find will surely make them look better, nice logic).

 

 

 

Changing the name clarifies what the rants forum is for. They even went as far as to remove the "vent your frustration" from the subtitle to show people that it's not just for coming in and complaining about whatever is on your mind at the moment.

 

 

 

Website, store, and forum feedbacks are good additions to the forum, and are actually making me start visiting the RSOF more, as there are more areas where the more mature and intelligent crowd go (as opposed to rants, suggestions, future and recent updates) aside from maybe the rsc forums.

Lets take a look at the amount of posts in the rants compared to the compliments.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jagex making it look better for themselves, not one of the main reasons I guess.

 

 

 

It's easy to understand why there are so many more rants. Whenever Jagex makes even a small mistake, people on the RSOF are quick to rant about it. And then when they nerf something... oh boy. And you know what happens when they release some wonderful feature that people have been clamoring for? Most of those who liked it don't post about it in the compliments forum, and then you STILL have people that will whine about how it didn't live up to their expectations.

 

 

 

People are usually happier to voice their grievances than their praise.

 

 

 

people ranting have freetime since they dont play the game.

 

and people who enjoy the game have no time to post.

Good, the rants forum never gave us any decent topics anyways. It's almost like the rants forum on TIF, only the RSOF is a tad bit worse. Ranting is a useless form of communication. Forums are for discussion, and not for spraying crap on them. And that's mostly what a rant forum facilitates.

i think its a good idea, but remembering the fact that most of the posts will be rants, is going to be hard to spot the compliments section.

Having over 129 thousand compliment threads showing against 12 million rants goes a lot further than having 12 million rants showing against NO compliments.

You're saying "they don't care about looking good at this point" as if you're some kind of insider, well if they didn't care about how they look, it kinda contradicts the "Well its obviously to make them look good." that I quoted, and they wouldn't be merging the forums in the first place and would just leave rants to the festering hole of idiocy that it is if they didn't care.

 

 

 

They're not doing it to merge the rants and compliments in an effort to do what, make them feel better about themselves? They're changing the name, not the content of 99% of the threads that will continue inside of it, because people don't know how to properly use the forum. As I've already pointed out, that's why they removed the "place to vent your frustrations" and replaced it with "Let us know about in-game features you dislike, but behave! "

But the Game Feedback forum is both a two-in-one. Why else would they get rid of them? It can't be because they want to look bad. Paying members are the ones whom visit and post frequently. They already know the game is great, which is why they pay. So the rants are basically saying "We don't like your game/an aspect of your game, but we'll pay for it anyways". Why visit rants when you can visit the suggestions forum and get the same effect, but just to make the game better?

 

 

 

I was speculating as to why. Obviously it was a change they felt was needed. But when members pay your game, why would you care if you look stunning when you can just "not look bad"? People, and myself, can't help but to snicker when they see the compliments:rants. It just doesn't look good on Jagex's part. Which is most likely the reason - it doesn't make them look any better, just not as bad(not that they are bad in the first place). Although I suppose you could argue that two are the same.

Hahahah! I hope you people know that it's just human nature to be pessimistic and only pick out the negative things. Having more compliments than rants doesn't mean RS is a highly disliked game, it just means that the majority of players are normal human beings with normal human nature tendencies. :)

 

 

 

But anyways... that forum would be interesting. I foresee a lot more arguments breaking out now, since ranters and complimenters are both being herded into the same forum now.

Answer me this: If they're going to merge the compliments and rants forum, why is it that the rants forum is the only forum with that notice that they're putting the change in? There's no coming soon in the compliments forum, and there is not a single mention about merging ANY forums.

 

 

 

The game feedback forum will be used "to give your feedback, positive or negative, on game content only. ", and is being put in place just to make it more understandable what is allowed in that particular forum, while the compliments forum is for compliments on Jagex as a whole.

 

 

 

Tl;DR, there's no indication that they'll be removing the compliments forum as there's no notice on the compliments forum.

This was something that players and volunteers cooked up back in July 2007:

So this isn't a sudden thing at all. The problems with Rants and Compliments forums were festering for a long time, before Jagex understood the points being made about the problems in those forums required action. It seems Jagex realised that to improve the quality of feedback threads they were getting they had to make changes to the underlying structure of their feedback forums (apparently the Suggestions forum is next on the list for major changes).

 

 

 

It won't stop players from posting about what they dislike (or what they like; for those few that who like it but aren't in the game playing it) they're going to post anyway. The main purpose of the change is to ensure that the Game Feedback forum is focussed on discussion about the game's content and features rather than a morass of non-game issues.

 

 

 

As far as Compliments goes, Jagex basically agreed with players that there was little in Compliments that added to the value of discussion about the game, since that forum simply wasn't a fertile place for balanced debate either. The main issue with Compliments appeared to be the self-imposed limitations of it's Forum Specific Rules (FSR), that disagreements amounted to flaming, and the rules in that forum only allowed for posters to 'make Jagex feel good'. Compliments had therefore become a place of cookie spam threads, fishing for mod posts and little else.

 

 

 

In the end it's still up to the players to make good posts, and cooperate to ensure the level of discussion rises above the depths that the old forums had sadly descended to over the years.
