Sony announces PSP-3000

Sony has taken the opportunity of the Leipzig Games Convention to reveal the brand-spanking new PSP-3000, arriving Oct 15 in Europe for 199 (around $250), according to our main man Jem Alexander who's currently on site at the press conference.

Though it will look the same as the PSP-2000 (that's what the pic above is of, actually), you can expect an improved screen that's better outside with no glare and a built-in mic. This jibes with rumors we've heard previously, and but we don't know if the new "PS Button" is part of the package. We'll keep you posted.

If those promises of a sexy new screen and built-in mic in the PSP-3000 at the Leipzig Games Convention left you North Americans feeling left out, fear not: Sony has just let us know that the system will also be coming stateside, providing all of you the chance to buy the PSP ... again.

It'll be available both in the previously announced Ratchet and Clank Entertainment Pack on Oct. 14 and in a new PSP Core Pack coming in November with:

* Updated Piano Black PSP system

* 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo

* Everyday Shooter PLAYSTATION Network voucher

You'll be able to pick either up for $199.99.

What do you think? I personally think it's wrong of sony to release a new model so soon after the slim...but hey, if this means that psp phats are available even cheaper now, I might even pick one up. :P

But there's only been like two so far.

Why're they already skipping to three thousand DAMMIT >_<

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

why can't sony fix the joystick placements on their controllers? jeeeeez. that's the only thing i don't like about the PSP

But there's only been like two so far.

if you arent being sarcastic, then

first model was 100X range ( I think there were 2 or maybe 3 versions)

second was 200X range - the slim edition, there are at least 3 different models of this.

This is the third model, which means its the 300X range.

Its just a codename 3000, like what people are calling ms's alledged waggle wand, the newton.

I suppose it doesnt look so differant but its more refined than the psp 2000, its not just making it finner and improving the battery ebcause it wasnt heavy anyway but it is removing screen glare etc which is a problem with todays portables.

I wont buy one till its below £100 and i can wait because i have a ds.

Bleh, I like the Phats because they can be hard modded with custom firmware. The steps Sony has taken to prevent custom firmware thus far haven't stopped the hackers, but this new model might be full proof...Maybe. Thats Why I'll stick with my Phat. :D

Hoping to get a new Signature (with matching avatar) soon. :D

correct me if im wrong but it looks like the 3000 has a better anti-glare coating

  • Author

It does, even the news reports says so.

It's said to have better antiglare, more vibrant colors and a faster refresh rate to eliminate "ghosting".

rickastleywh7.png

Ooh shiny, me like. :o

Been thinking of getting one for a while was just waiting for them to release a new version.

I'm actually very tempted to get one now. Not just because it's got a new shiny screen. \'

spacescenev24.jpg

Huh, come to think of it, the anti-glare coating is definately something to consider...But again, Sony must be taking many steps to ensure no Custom Firmware on it. They might fail if Pandora's battery still works on it...And if thats the case, I might pick up the shiny new PSP. ::'

Of course they make a better PSP right after I bought mine...who would have thought?

Theres virtually no difference, screw the microphone, Sony are truly pathetic at all aspects of gaming imo...

Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.

Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)

:| They should of just made a whole new console. This is pretty worthless.

Haha, my wish worked (jking) But that always seems to happen, like for the Halo 3 heroics, when I got them for the 800 Microsoft points, they were going to become free the next day lol

I've seen a couple of your posts and it seems like you hate sony without a reason (Except for the monitors) :|.

The screen is a great addition, might get one for my slim and if the faceplate have something to do with it as well I'll just get one (If it isn't too expensive), shouldn't be to hard to make it fit for the slim. But I have to agree overall it's a worthless update and if someone like the theme you could probably copy paste the .rco files from future firmware updates.

And you get to ask Littleboy to make you more PSP backgrounds :P

at least there is no glare. when i used to have one it was horrible to play anywhere with a lot of light.

but looks like sony is becoming like apple, always releasing new models quickly.

And what does that have to do with anything?

On topic: Well it's probably just a release to prevent Pandora, It's just one Pandora proof slim at the moment but there is still a lot of older versions out there so they probably released this one to get the attention from the older slim models to this one but I guess it's just wait and see until they bypass the pandora block, if anyone remember the "unhackable TA 82" you get what I mean. I guess it's time to get back to software exploits though .

Meh, dark_alex will figure it out. And Prometheus, Noobz, everyone will always find a way to hack...Sony can't leave it unhackable, as they even have to hack it themselves to fix broken PSPs. So it should be fairly easy.

I think if I can get the anti glare screen, then I shall get it and put it in, along with other awesome decorations for my PSP.

But I'll never get a new PSP. Ever. Unless my PSP is perm. bricked, which is 100% unlikely, since that is almost impossible.

Hoping to get a new Signature (with matching avatar) soon. :D

Pretty hard to perm brick it or destroy all it's functions because of dc7. Also I'm not sure if you have a fat or slim PSP but I'm fairly sure it's not possible without some serious "modding" of the screen to make it fit properly.

I'll find a way. If I can hack my battery into a Pandora, then I'll figure this out too.

It's 2 metal plates that's on the fat monitor if I'm not wrong and it's easy to get dust in there i you don't handle it properly. Just to warn you.
