What is pen spinning? Well, it is:

Pen spinning is a form of object manipulation that involves the deft manipulation of a writing instrument with one's hands. Although it is often considered a form of self-entertainment (usually in a school/office setting), multinational competitions and meetings are sometimes held.

 

 

 

How many of you guys can do it? Nearly half the people can do it in my classes and the other half are trying to learn how to do it. Personally, I do it because it is fun and wastes time, but you still are learning. At the moment, I can only do Charge, but I am learning how to do other like Sonic and Fingerpass.

I do it, quite a bit. I made a thread on this before, but it didn't get much traffic....

 

 

 

Anyways, I can do [comparitvely] many tricks. Charge reverse (not regular for some reason) sonic, reverse sonic, fingerpass, thumbaround, thumbspin 1.5, backaround and all the neobacks, infinity and the fake double, which is my hardest.

 

 

 

Might I recommend http://www.pentrix.com for those learning, although it's complete crap for anything but looking at videos. There was another great site, but I forgot what it is, and it may have been shut down. Something with turtle in the url.

I penspin, it's a habit. Not just pens, I guess, anything that it works with. Rulers, pieces of wood, etc.

 

I don't really pay much attention to it, I just learn from watching. Basically all the guys at my church (Youth group, at least) do it, so that's where I first learned. No one at my school other than me does it, maybe some will pick it up soon though.

 

I can do Sonic, Charge, Fingerpass (Reverse fingerpass?) and thumbaround. I think. Don't really know the name of tricks.

Im just a novice at spining, able to do some basic twirls, but it seems that half my school knows how to spin pens.

Yeah but i'm a leftie playing right handed guitar, and I feel my picking hand is fine so i'm doing it in my left hand :P

 

 

 

Edit: took me like 10 minutes to get the basics of the charge down. Now to practice it :P

I used to do it myself and eventually stopped as it was boring after a while, only remember one trick now :-#.

I can only do a thumbaround, but I do it with all kinds of weird objects... TV remotes, forks, spoons, knives (don't try this), DS styli...

 

 

 

I want to learn new tricks someday.

When I'm bored I just zone everything/everyone out and daydream. I'd rather not draw attention to myself by dropping my pens on the floor all the time.

Eh, I daydream and pen spin. Honestly, I do it subconsciously. Though yes, the fact that I do drop it quite a lot is annoying. Can't stop doing those thumbarounds when walking though. :|

Update: I can get 2 spins every now and then :o but my finger hurts so i'm stopping for now. And I use music to relieve stress :thumbup:

Yep. Last night I was doing sonics with my pizza crust and later, thumbarounds with a short knife. When you get to the stranger stuff, it's a lot more interesting.

 

 

 

And I usually practice at my computer, reading off of the how-to page :P Once I figure it out from there, I'll try it wherever I am. I do it whenever I'm at the computer, too, just because there's a big cup of pens here.
