Richard Wright - RIP

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine

Staying home to watch the rain

And you are young and life is long

And there is time to kill today

And then one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run

You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter

Never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to nought

Or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way

The time is gone

The song is over

Thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again

I like to be here when I can

When I come home cold and tired

It's good to warm my bones beside the fire

Far away across the field

The tolling of the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees

To hear the softly spoken magic spells

My favorite Pink Floyd song. It describes life absolutely perfectly. It's a sad day for me. I pray I never know the day when Gilmour dies. Wright's keyboard skills were absolutely perfect; he knew what chords to play and when to play them.

"He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."

Let's just hope there's no "Great Gig In The Sky" epitaphs. Rest in peace.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

I just heard about this like 10 minutes ago :(

Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool

I wasn't even aware he had cancer, how terrible. A sad day for music.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

Sad, I guess. For some reason this doesn't do me much. Don't know why.

RIP him, even though I've never really listened to Pink Floyd.

You haven't lived. Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon were two of the best albums to come out of the 1970s. Pink Floyd, along with King Crimson, were the innovators of prog rock.

I've never been a fan of anything Progressive. ANYTHING.

RIP.

I wish he were here...(bad joke intended)

I heard this on the radio on my way home from practice, as the station was in the middle of a Pink Floyd hour.

That's unfortunate. Some of the most talented musicians come from progressive bands.

I saw this earlier, a sad day for music.

I should probably listen to Floyd some more.

This is sad, but he left an impression on the world before he left. When it comes down to it, that's the only thing that matters in the end. His life is over, but his music will be on my MP3 player for years and years to come. Then I'll introduce my kids to Pink Floyd.

Wright took two acid trips - one before he was in the band, which was "quite enjoyable", and a more unpleasant experience that put him off for life.

"It's a mistake thinking that drugs supplied Pink Floyd with the inspiration," he said.

"The ones who took drugs were the ones who came to see the shows."

Best quote ever.

RIP Richard Wright

RIP Chris Witchhunter

Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.

Boo hoo. <3: Very woeful indeed (really, but I found Syd's death a bit more saddening), but perhaps I'm just in a bad mood today; bad bad mood. sheeeeeeesh! :wall:

No, I actually agree. Syd's story stands out far more than Richard's. Maybe because of the songs written about him, or maybe how his mind turned into applesauce, but either way it just seemed more depressing.

I definitely agree. Wish You Were Here is such a sad album when you know the story about it.

Damn, that's sad news. He was a great musician and can claim a part in creating some of the best music of the 70's. Perhaps other decades, but albums like Meddle, Wish You Were Here, and Dark Side of the Moon are my favourites as far as Pink Floyd goes.

Really a shame, his work with PF is very underrated. Everyone talks about The Great Gig in the Sky and Us and Them, but so many forget/don't even know about his other amazing work. Remember a Day, See-saw, and perhaps the most overlooked song in PF's entire catalogue, Summer '68.

Really a shame. I never got to see him play with David Gilmour when the toured by a few years ago, because I didn't have a drivers liscence, have no friends who like PF, and didn't have the huge amount of cash for tickets. I also have yet to hear Broken China or Wet Dream because they aren't available in local stores, but I will eventually get them off e-bay.

This is a real bummer, though. I feel like I want to listen to Pink Floyd all day now, but all the CD's are at my other house :<.

pink floyd is one of my alltime favorite bands. it's at the top, if not damn close. my mom used to listen to it all the time when i was younger, and i got hooked. it calms me down so well, and i just love the songs in general.
