PURESMITHER
Hi there, and welcome to my first ever guide on how to do something useful, like barrows. I have over 200 chests experience, and have only got 3 barrows items, 2 being Ahrims hoods. I'd say I'm probably a pretty unlucky player, but meh. \ You'll be using an awesome weapon that came out with hunter about a year ago, thats right, the black salamander. 1. Contents 1. Contents 2. Requirements 3. Getting Ready 4. Finding Barrows 5. Attack Plan 6. Tunnels 7. Credits 2. Requirements Required stats for this guide: 70 Strength 70 Ranged 70 Mage 43 Prayer Advised stats: 70 Attack 70 Strength 70 Defense 70 Range 70 Mage 50 Prayer 50 Construction 3. Getting Ready Right, lets get down to business. Lets presume you are starting in canifis, you should look something like this: Veracs Helmet - Helm of Neitiznot - Bezerker Helm - God mitre God Stole - (Un)Holy symbol - Amulet of Fury - Amulet of Glory Ahrims Body - Mystic Body - Monks Robe Verac's Skirt - Torag/Guthan/Dharok legs - Dragon legs/skirt Best RFD gloves above mith - Klanks Guantlets - Mystic Gloves Dragon boots - Rune Boots - Mystic Boots Trimmed Skill cape - Fire Cape - God cloak - God cape Ring of Life - Ring of Life - Ring of Life ;) Black Salamander Harralander Tar This is pretty much an optimum setup, apart from the boots and cape. With this setup your trying to achieve something extremely difficult under normal circumstances, your trying to combine: A positive magic attack bonus A positive magic defense bonus A +15 or more prayer bonus Melee defence bonuses of at least 150. Inventory: This depends on what you want to do... If you have 50+ construction and intend on doing more than 1 chest: Red is what you will use to kill Karil (and whip for tunnels). Yellow Prayer pot is if your tunnel brother is Karil or Dharok. Blue prayer pot is for killing dharok and karil if your doing a 2nd chest. Green is your teleport to house tablet. Orange is your spade, you need this to kill the brothers. If you have less than 50 construction and intend on doing more than 1 chest: Everything is exactly the same apart from the fact that you will use a Lumbridge teletab and a dramen staff as opposed to the house teleport. If you only intend to do 1 chest, lose 1 of the prayer potions. 4. Finding Barrows Once you have got all your equipment ready, you just have to get there and do this thang \ If you have a Kharyll portal and a Chapel, you'll be banking in Canifis, so you use Travel method 1. If you don't have a kharyll portal and a chapel, you'll be banking in Zanaris, so use Travel Method 2. Travel Method 1: Starting in Canifis pub, immediately after teleing out of barrowss and jumping through the kharyll portal: Bank in Canifis, WALK to the south of the pub and go through the trapdoor you find there. WALK south through the tunnels until you get to some wooden doors. RUN throgh them and run south to the bridge. Walk over the bridge (requires lots of clicking) and then continue to run south until you get to the swamp boaty. Travel on this downstream and you will get to a bridge. Walk accross it and you will be able to see the barrows. Travel Method 2: Starting in Lumbridge, immediately after teleing out of barrows. Run east into the church and recharge prayer, then run south to the hut into the middle of the swamps. Equip your lunar/dramen staff and open the door. Walk west to the bank, get out stuff for the next trip and then run south to the fairy ring. Enter the code AKS and you will appear in a dark room. Use the exit, then you'll appear in another room, find the exit of that and you will be in the tunnel described above. Run south and find the wooden doors. Run out of them, then run south and go over the wooden bridge (requires lots of clicking) and run south to the swamp boaty, board it, run accross the bridge and you will be able to see the barrows. On this map, orange and yellow line represents travel method 1, and the second half of travel method 2 (aka after your in tunnel). 5. Attack Plan Its time to take out the pinkies. Stand on the north east mound and switch your black salamaders attack style to mage. Put on protect from melee and dig with your spade. Search the crypt and hopefully Dharok will pop out. If you get unlucky and start running out of prayer, drink a prayer pot. You must always keep your prayer above 8 on Dharok or you will be flattened. I'm not kidding, this has happened to me on more than 1 occasion, and its unlikely people will want to waste a prayer pot repairing your grave. Its now Karils time to fall, go the South mound and put on your DDS spec and range pray. If he is your tunnel, run out again, if he's there, drink a sip of super attack and dds spec/whip him to death. Ahrim is next, and hes probably the weirdest brother for me. He is in the central crypt, and you will kill him using the black salamander range option. Sometimes he hits absolutely nothing on me, and sometimes he gets half my food. If you have any prayer left over, use it, eat food liberally, as he hits up to 25 with his spells. There are now the 3 easy brothers. Switch to the salamanders magic option and kill them. Verac first, hes in the North West barrow. Torag is second last. he is in the South West barrow. Guthan, who is killed last, rests in the South East barrow. All 3 of these can have lucky streaks, so its best to run around the crypts and utilise the safespots shown here: NOTE: Of the 4 corners, only 2 of them are safespots running anti-clockwise, and 2 of them are safespots moving clockwise, if you want, you can alternate between safespots, but it makes the kills take longer. The brothers do not sit there and be killed forever, they move around, shown here: 6. Tunnels For me, the tunnels are the hardest bit. Go to your tunnel brothers crypt and go into the tunnel. If you plan to do more than 1 chest, then remember which room you came in, as that will be where the ladder is on your way out. Note, I would reccomend doing the tunnels in low detail mode, as it is very dark on HD. If Dharok or Karil is your tunnel...: Run as fast as you can towards the middle, ignore them if they spawn before that. If they spawn as you get to the chest room, go the other side of the chest. When your ready to take them on, drink a dose of prayer potion and attack using the appropriate style and weapon. If Torag, guthan or verac is your tunnel...: Take them on where ever they appear, dds spec out on them and then switch to black sally mage style. If Ahrim is your tunnel...: He can hit quite hard, so if your running low on food and health, either skip him and just go to chest with only 5 brothers killed, or take him on with mage prayer. Again, DDS spec out on him before switching to black salamander range style. Once your tunnel brother is dead, take out your whip/dragon scimmy and get 13 killcount. With 13 I've got D meds before, so theres no point in getting it any higher. Search the chest. If you intend to do another run, look at your food, tar and potions. If you have: 8 or more fish At least 3 doses of prayer pot And 80 or more tar Then go for another chest, if you don't have this, tele out, rinse and repeat. 7. General tips -Try to have 100% run energy for the tunnels, it helps a lot. -If your being attacked by something while trying to do the puzzle in the tunnels, wait until just after it does an attack. And remember, its better to lose a few hitpoints than rush it, get it wrong and have to start running again. -On Karil you could attempt to 'flash pray' (pray only when your being hit, then turn it off), however, he hits so fast it isn't normally worth it. -Instead of using prayer potions on Dharok and Karil tunnels some people prefer to skip them and just go for the chest to save money. -The middle south room in the tunnels is always full of bloodworms, perfect for getting killcount up. -In the chest room the lanterns can also be used as safespots like the crypts. -If your new to barrows, take a friend so that if one of you dies, you have a back up. 8. Owned_Nex
EDIT: Its time to take out the pinkies. Stand on the north east mound and switch your black salamaders attack style to mage. Put on protect from melee and dig with your spade. Search the crypt and hopefully Dharok will pop out. If you get unlucky and get some bad hits, drink a prayer pot. You must always keep your prayer above 8 or you will be ko'ed I can tell you've borrowed probably less then 5 times if you actually say not to start of pray at DH. PURESMITHER
Whats wrong with that? I'm telling the user not to let their prayer below 8, or they'll get drained and Dharok will hit a 58 or something. Anyway, I've edited it to make the word more clearing. totalpwnage
Unfortunately, theres been like 10 barrows guides on using salamander for 1. 2, its cheaper if you use another type of bow for ahrim... even a crystal bow is cheaper. My favorite, personally, is rune crossbow and broad tipped bolts. You can also use things like mith arrows/broad arrows/addy arrows with magic shortbow. Decent guide, but its just been written one too many times. Started free trade with 1.5m cash. 2 weeks later, have hit max cash 2x. PvP drops: 359 Brawling Gloves, 11 Vesta's Longswords, 41+ Zaros/Ancient Statues9 Dragon Full Helms, 3 Dragonfire Shields on the old PvP loot system Brawler guide is being finished! llamster
How good are salamanders compared to Magic Dart or other conventional spells? You really should mention that in your guide. Some people do not want to spend 8k on a prayer pot to kill dharok. You can ask Tidgo if you want, he skipped Karil tunnel and got a Great axe. Does not cost 40k. Oh and also to people who say that there is 10+ guides on this, theres none on the tip it site, archive of wisdom, or the first 3 pages of this forum.
