October 31, 200817 yr Author The new series of Ponderland started doing, Brand is still working  To be honest I reckon Brand was going to quit soon anyway. He was only doing the show for the fans anyway as his career in the USA has blossomed. I will miss his Saturday night show. As for Ross, it's hit him harder but he will recover. Trust the Gene Genie!
November 2, 200817 yr I didn't find the comments in the least bit funny. The whole storm over this is ridiculous though. I just got back from holiday with two friends - 17 and 18 years old. All three of us couldn't believe Channel 4 managed to drag a main story out of this for four whole days. Brown and Cameron have got bigger fish to fry right now. I don't really find Russell Brand funny but he was a good "comedian" and he should have stayed. The whole point of Brand is that he's a little risque. Are we gonna take Moyles off Radio 1 because he makes some obscene comments about celebs? Are we gonna take off Fighting Talk from Radio 5 because it offends some supporters? No, because it would make BBC Radio dull and boring. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
November 2, 200817 yr This whole thing has deliberately been blown out of all proportion to me. It has been used by the blue-rinse brigade to highlight society's "moral decline" and more importantly it has been used by people who have a grudge against the BBC to bash the BBC. It was just too perfect, not only was it a chance to bash anyone at the BBC, it was a chance to hit their biggest earner in Jonathan Ross. If this had been Russell Brand and anybody else it would not have been a problem but because it's Ross it becomes an issue as he is on an £18M contract. If there is any doubt that this is being exploited by people who are anti-BBC then read a copy of the Rupert Murdoch owned The Sun or watch Sky News they are milking this for all it's worth. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
November 5, 200817 yr 'Russell and Ross; What the f*** was all that about' on five at 10 tonight if anyone gives a [cabbage]. Looks crap. I will possibly watch it if I don't find a bonfire to go to. -.- That bird than Brand knobbed is quite fit.

Yeah, it's another case of story overmilking, but it is a valid argument. Why are we really paying £18M to a person who does that then broadcasts it to the world? ~ W ~
November 5, 200817 yr Well his pay is based on how many viewers he can pull in (he is the only thing to watch on a friday night if you're in) and what is perceived to be his marketing value. Before this happened he could have gotten the same on ITV or Sky, the BBC has to be competitive in order to keep it's top talent. Also, this wasn't necessarily Brand or Ross' fault either, if this was considered too risque for broadcast then the producers should have prevented it from airing as it wasn't live. Instead they chose to pass it and that is why the controller of radio 2 ended up resigning. If there is anymore proof needed that this is being exploited to attack the BBC, look at how the press has been trying to do the same thing with Jeremy Clarkson's lorry drivers joke. It wasn't offensive, I say that not only as somebody who enjoys watching Clarkson but as the son of a lorry driver, my Dad found it even funnier than I did. November 6, 200817 yr The number of comments on the Daily Mail website that started: "These two vile men are representative of the state of our culture today...." is ridiculous. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
November 6, 200817 yr I see Jeremy Clarkson is now getting the same treatment for a joke on Top Gear. Where will the madness end?
November 6, 200817 yr I see Jeremy Clarkson is now getting the same treatment for a joke on Top Gear. Where will the madness end? what joke was this? I wasnt a huge fan of brand's show (although I do like him as a comedian / actor) but I'd hate to see top gear go down.
November 6, 200817 yr BBC[/url]":dwbye4t4]Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has prompted more than 500 people to complain to the BBC about a joke he made on Sunday's motoring show. Clarkson, 48, was taking part in a lorry-driving task, when he joked about lorry drivers killing sex workers. "Change gear, change gear, check mirror, murder a prostitute, change gear, change gear, murder. That's a lot of effort in a day," he said. The BBC said the joke had made "ridiculous an unfair urban myth". Forklift truck driver Steve Wright was jailed in February for killing five prostitutes in Ipswich.

Compared to some things JC comes out with, that one's tame. People should realise that it won't work unless what the person says is actually properly offensive. ~ W ~

He didn't do anything too bad, same as Ross and Brand really. But the Media blows everything out of proportion :shame:
