So far the only problem I have (which is a major one IMO) is that the Marketplace is incredibly slow. It took me 10 minutes just to download the Dead Kennedy's Pack and Best of The Who for RB2, not including download times, so 10 minutes of navigation.

I can't even access the marketplace..Pops up an error when I try searching through it. Netflix though works good. Only wish you could browser netflix library on the xbox instead of having to go to netflix on my laptop, but at least I finally got a feature that I really wanted! \

Ehh, I sort of miss the old interface, but I'll get used to this one. I like the avatars. They're a lot better than those awful Miis. I wish they'd have more options, though. My character looks really plain.

You can rip a game you own onto your hard drive. The space it takes up varies from game to game, but they all take around 4-7GB each. It only took like 10 minutes for me to rip RB2 (I think it was 6.7GB?) and it increases the loading time by a significant amount, makes the Xbox quieter, and greatly reduces the risk of getting the RROD because since the disc doesn't spin when you play the game, the temperature decreases a ton. The only downside is you still have to have the disc in to play.

Yeah I might do that...If yous witch, does stuff like prestiges, gamerpoints, gamertag, levels and stuff go with you? Or does that stay with the hard drive...? If it only does, is there any way to transfer them?

Tips:

 

 

 

 

 

* You don't just transfer data to your 20GB drive externally -- you have to plug your 20GB drive into your Elite, and use the 120GB drive externally. (Yeah, we photographed the unit attached to our 20GB drive though.)

 

* You can only transfer content ONCE. This isn't a backup or duplication tool, it's one-time use per drive.

 

* Even after turning off the console our externally adapted drive kept spinning because it was powered by USB. Weird.

 

* Despite the on-screen diagram, our instructions say to use the BACK USB port. Woops, we didn't. Pray it doesn't kill our data.

 

* Apparently Microsoft wants you to dispose of your transfer cable after use. Um, ok?

 

* XBLA and Marketplace content (i.e. downloaded games and shows) require online authorization. In other words, some licenses can't transfer, and you won't necessarily be able to watch all your transferred media without logging on. Whatev.

 

* Movie rentals cannot transfer drives. "Watch them first!" because they're not going to make the trip, period. Double whatev.

 

* If your 20GB drive is maxed out like ours, it could take a while. The system transfer will tell you how long it estimates the transfer to take: moving our 17.5GB of data was estimated at 1 hour and 20 minutes.

 

* You can restart or stop the transfer at any time during the move, but you'll have to start all over again next time. But you won't lose any data. Supposedly.

 

* "Microsoft is not liable for any loss of data resulting from the transfer process." That's the third and final whatever!

I got a pop up about NXE on Halo3. Apparently, Halo3 doesn't work well if you rip it to the harddrive. I guess some games shouldn't be installed.

It automatically caches the maps to the hard drive. Even if installed, it will keep doing so. While it's loading the maps, the xbox realizes that they are already there. And it will delete the maps from the installation and cache the ones it's programmed to do.

 

 

 

As hard drives cannot read and write simultaneously, it will slow done loading times.

is completely correct, microsoft totally rapes you on the harddrives. i mean damn. my external usb drive for the computer is 250gb, and it cost me like $93 or something with shipping from newegg. i'm forcing myself to wait till after the holiday season in hopes of a price drop for the 120gb harddrive.

I was skeptic when i heard about it. Seems pointless and i didn't think i'd be entertained by it....

 

But i've made a character which looks just like me so i have squeezed afew cheap thrills out of it :P lol.

 

It'll be fun for the first few weeks but will soon get old.

 

 

 

The technical stuff is an improvement, especially the partys where you can group chat even without the same game- although it needs fine tuning to stop people cheating in S&D games on COD 4 and Gears 2 for example where voice chat is prohibited between dead and alive players. Its just a minor problem, but lobbies seem awfully quiet now.
