It was made to make resumes look good for college graduates, give criminals an alternate punishment, and let the people who are poor help the community service. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.

Back when they were deciding how they were going to elect our president they couldn't agree on the an electoral college of sorts to choose or the people to choose. So they compromised and let us vote, then left the rest up to the electoral college. I'm pretty sure if everybody knew how the electoral college works they would be all for getting rid of it. The EC was created 200 years ago because back then the government thought regular people weren't smart to choose the right president, letting elected officials decide for the people.
