123_x_pac
Gangs....Some people think they are a mark on society. Others think they are a way of life and being able to support themselves and they're family. In my city/town, there are gangs, but nothing about gangshootings and the like. Places like La, Chicago and many others are given a bad name due to gang violence. I personally think gangs aren't that bad. If a person has no other way to earn money to live and survive and a gangs the only way, they should be able to do it. Hell I'd do it if I had to. Your ideas/thoughts on gangs? Some gangs also were made out of protection at first but for some reason, formed to the way they are. *If anyone remembers before the roll-back,I had a topic like this and just wanted to restart it* League of Legends Referal link: http://signup.leagueoflegends.com/?ref=4e55a571778d2633364408"Life is short, and shortly it will end, Death comes quickly which respects no one, Death destroys everything and takes pity on no one"Drops: 8whips, 28dboots, 1hand cannon, 2 dmeds 3dskirts 2 dbows99s(in order): Attack Constitution Defence
Zierro
If a person has no other way to earn money to live and survive and a gangs the only way, they should be able to do it. I don't think being in a gang and doing gang-like activities is a viable solution to survival no matter what the circumstance. It might make life a little easier for you, but no one is forcing you into one.
Lenticular_J
There are gangs in my town, and I've been chased by one dozens of times. Window got shot out by another. I hate fighting, because I'm really empathetic, but I've fought three "gang members" before - once I "lost". They're a blight. How is that really condonable? That's like saying "Oh, he's not really a lady's-man, I guess it's okay if he rapes someone to get by." catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
RichieMcD
At the end of the day there is always out jobs out there no matter how menial the task is, it's simply down to the person willing to work for the money. I view gangs on two different concepts, there are gangs created purely for protection in numbers from other people, I'm pretty much in that situation now and wouldn't view it as a problem. It's gangs like the Crips / Bloods who I view as a problem, indiscriminately killing opposing gang members, selling drugs and robbing homes for a living. If you are in a gang purely for protection then I wouldn't deem it as a problem, it's when you start selling drugs and robbing people simply because you're in a "gang" then I view it as a problem and cowardly, would you be selling drugs if you didn't have numbers to protect you? dragoonson
Now I'm not in a gang.My brother is,my friends are.But not me.I work with one,and sometimes I help out.But by no means am I in it.My tattoos have nothing to do with the gang, and should there be a squabble,I have no need to participate. But this I know:Here its usually more out of a sense of brotherhood than for money. No doubt there is money in the trade, but most of the brothers don't peddle or pimp, they just hang out and help each other when a fight breaks out.I'm not really sure about hierarchy though, what I know is really based on guess-work. so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder! Joes_So_Cool
I don't mind gangs, what I mind is "wannabee gangs" who wear rosary beads and backwards hats. Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

If a person has no other way to earn money to live and survive and a gangs the only way, they should be able to do it. So because they are less privileged or what ever, that makes it ok for them to steal from me or beat me up and steal my things? Or to sell harmful substances? Or to ignore the law because it's "the only way"? Sorry, totally against gangs

ThurinEthir
Just wondering, what would separate a clique from a gang? As for as I can tell, a really close group of friends is basically a gang, perhaps without the violence and all that. I live in a very safe city, I doubt there are any gangs. We do have some kids from Boston though, and they have a gang at school...I think. My friend's friend's brother's friends challenged my friends to a football game once, a cop showed up, probably thinking it was a gang-fight. : Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu. We do have some kids from Boston though, and they have a gang at school...I think. My friend's friend's brother's friends challenged my friends to a football game once, a cop showed up, probably thinking it was a gang-fight. : A "gang" usually consists of 15-23 year olds, who participate in petty street crime, drugs and violence. Sometimes, they may identify with each other via tattoos, and have a shared place of residence. Almost without exception they will end up in jail sooner or later. I doubt you could equate that to a 'clique' which just hangs out. Organised crime is a chapter of it's own, they are often connected in politics, keep extremely low profiles, may have smuggled automatic weapons instead of shabby converted pistols, and usually engage in subtle crime like ID theft, protection rackets, staging arson/suicides, insurance fraud/medicare embezzlement etc., usually aged 25-60 As dragoonson said, a gang more often than not are in it mostly for the brotherhood, not the money. In terms of effectiveness a gang is usually the bottom feeder of society, as they might not have very intelligent strategies and often get imprisoned/kill their leaders due to ego issues etc.
Ouchy
Depending on what the gang is, I don't really mind what they do, long as I am not affected. But, in the dodgier part of my city, there are Gangs which deal in regular violence and promote Drug use. Those are the ones I hate, and believe should be stopped. BlueLancer
Why would someone be forced into a Gang? Poverty, no family/trying to support elders alone, no education or a job, persuaded by other gang members... People don't just "join" gangs. You are recruited if the leader sees you have nothing left to lose in life by joining them and will likely be loyal. In some bad neighbourhoods or slums especially outside of the US, like in Brazil, it may actually be the only way to stay alive. A better question would be "is there anyone in a gang who wasn't forced to"? If you got to ask a number of gang members why they became involved... You'd find chronic poverty, family disputes/violence/domestic violence, low education, behind every person's life. Would you rather work a white collar job in an office for $2k a month, or risk your life and health being a scummy dealer or robber who gets to keep 5% of his profits and passes 95% up to his superiors, eventually ending up in prison? Nobody is in a gang voluntarily...

doomy
One of the primary schools around here have a rule that if you're walking around in a group of more then 3 you're a gang and you get a dentention...I really hope they don't enforce that rule very well though.
