Why do I keep re-subscribing

Financial troubles, busy uni assignments and other personal endeavors and hobbies.

I feel like logging onto RS, play around the free world, oh that's new, hey when did they bring this out? Hell I'll just re-subscribe, only £3.50!

I did it again. RS is the only game which makes me pay money to play. I dunno why. I'm 19 now and should be doin other stuff than playin a kids game. But I like it. I started playin in 2002, been with all the changes and diff version. I think that's why I keep coming back. Technically, it's not even 'fun', but I enjoy it. usually just end up grinding fishing and getting particularly nowhere...but I played RS so i'm happy.

When I usually play a game extensively (MMORPGs) I give it one good play through, and never subscribe again. I've been playing RS for many years (on and off of course), I do the same ol [cabbage], nothing really changes, but I always come back.

It's the only RPG where I can bum around and be a non-combatant in a medieval setting, and the setting is believable too, it's sensible (for the most part), everyone is human , im not always battling like in other games. I think this is why I keep comin back

any others find themselves re-subbing even though they play for a month then get bored?

My subscription hasn't lapsed in more than 3 years yet I never really play more than an hour a week tops. Occasionally Ill play really heavy for a month or 2 and slip back to nothing. I just keep my kingdom running and the cash flowing in so that when I do decided to play hard I have the resources there.

I understand exactly what you mean. I've been doing this for the past 6 months. It really doesn't take away from anything in real life, as I play during a time that there is nothing else to do aside from watching television. I just kind of wish I could at least stand staying f2p.

part of the success of runescape (i believe) is that it is so much easier to say "why not" to something that costs the same as a coffee.

other games cost much more, get more updates and better graphics but players must pay for it, and when your parents get angry they are much more likely to think about cancelling your $30 subscription than your $5 one

I've also played since around 02, on an off played pretty hard got to 97 combat and I dunno, 1150 skill total or what ever, quit in 04 when rs2 was released an our rsc highscores was no longer updated. I started replaying this year roughly 5 monthes ago with a whole new account, now with nearly the same amount of total xp in 5 monthes as the one in 2-3 years I enjoy the games speed of xp, much faster, If I had to do the same pace grinding as back then I wouldn't play.

I'm now 20, run my own buisness, have a long term gf whom I live with, yet I can't leave this game at the moment, despite quitting for 3-4 years, I do enjoy to play this more so than watch tv.

At $12.00(au) It costs the same as going to watch a 2 hour movie at the cinemas, or something similar, it is cost effective. So, yeah why not?

I still play other games like counter strike, WarHammer, ect, I just enjoy gaming>tv, But never would i let games get in the way of my actural life...

Yeah, RS is the only game I played regularly for years and subscribed to for about 2 years. Financial trouble here as well as college courses yet I still find some time to go on my F2P pure. I know that if I subscribe right now I would never pass my classes with all these new content since December.

Other games have way too much grinding or not enough so they don't satisfy my needs all the time. If I want to train my skills I do so and it doesn't take much to get there or get the supplies. If I wanted to train, it's simple, supplies and a training spot. RS just keeps on pumping out these awesome updates.

I'm in the same boat man.. I have no idea why I keep coming back, I always feel good with myself when I haven't played for six months, yet I don't feel shame or anxiety when I actually play. When I look at my stats, I'm glad there's no 99's cause it shows I haven't wasted that much time on this stupid game.. yet I subscribe 2 months later and try getting a 99.

I have the same problem. I have school, a job, debate, and DECA; all of which take up a good portion of my time. If I have any free time, I am trying to catch up on Heroes and keep somewhat skilled in COD4 so I can hopefully pick up COD5 and move into that. Runescape is just an afterthought now, but i am still subscribed on my debit card. If I log in, it's once a week or less. I think I have been sitting at the zamarak area in GWD fighting mages for boots for the past week or so. I'm pretty sure I still have upwards of 12-14 full prayer pots left too.

Sounds like you have a relapsing addiction to RuneScape.

I don't blame you though, it's a nice time-killer even if you're grinding. I'm still under the $4.95 membership and I don't think I'll be unsubscribing anytime soon.

So, what do we discuss here? RuneScape being a MMORPG that has you always coming back? Or being lured by Jagex's new releases?

I'm 19 now and should be doin other stuff than playin a kids game.

You're 19. You're an adult. What you do is up to you to decide. Do not let other people's perceptions and/or prejudices ("it's a kids game") cloud your judgment. You enjoy it ("Technically, it's not even 'fun', but I enjoy it"), and that is the point. Some people collect post stamps because they enjoy it. Others watch sports on television. Still others do various sports. Some play runescape. The justification for all these activities is always the same : they enjoy it.

Keep enjoying yourself. Have fun.

diib.

"Noob" is an insult. "Noob" is overused. Be polite. Try to say "noob" less than once a day.

Thank you.

I don't really ask myself why I keep doing it, I know why. After playing PS3 or another game that gets old after 2 weeks I realize I have a great addiction that is there when I need it.

It is kind of like Runescape is my Wife, and all the other games are one night stands.

Without the jealousy or lack of attention a wife/partner complains about.

I cant tell you how many women get worried that gaming is seriously any more important than them... It dumb to complain about something that was never a secret. I got hobbies! Things I like to do besides them.. I got two to play the game and that shuts them up a bit.
