Farewell to rune runners (not that I'll miss them...)

Featured Replies

I've been a runescaper for quite a while, and I've seen a lot of changes in the game, some good, some bad, all in all I don't rant because the game is still awesome. I've been members and f2p and back, so I try to keep a balanced view of the updates as it affects the game across the board.

I appreciate this game a lot because of the multitude of non-combat attributes you can develop. Most rpgs just let you tweak your str, int and dex, and that's about it. Runescape blows these out of the water as it appeals to fighters as well as skillers.

Personally, I love to train my skills, in fact, since I got 70+ in all my combat skills (except prayer) I've ceased hunting completely. Also, I've cancelled my membership for some time now since I don't play regularly anymore. (For anybody who wants to go to f2p without worrying about getting rid of your members items for bank space, check out the guide in my sig)

Runecrafting is one of the skills that is a big deal to me. Ess changes and rune price changes impact my game a lot. Thankfully, the community, not jagex, created a system that in my view positively affected runecrafting more than anything else: rune running. World 16 was established as the world for running airs for cash, and world 66 for law runes. It took jagex more than a year to see the sense in designating worlds for activities that required large groups of players working together. I have a fairly high rc level, much thanks to these runners constantly providing ess for me to bind, in exchange for my notes and cash. And in the early stages of the system I was happy to pay them, because crafting 125 runes for every 2k I paid made me a huge profit.

Then came the 2 updates that crushed my means of income: the shop update that made bargain hunting impossible, and the introduction of pure ess that caused all ess prices to skyrocket. Today, with ess at 40gp+ and airs less than 13gp, paying air runners will drain your financial resources quickly.

Enter the two sweetest updates for runecafters ever: fist of guthix and grand orb project for f2p!!!

Either one of these updates alone would give us a huge advantage in advancing runecrafting. Combined, f2p has been blessed with the best way to level up runecrafting in the game, as far as I know. The runecrafting gloves allow us to get more exp crafting water and earth runes for regular ess than members can make crafting bloods from pure ess! And with the new teleport tablets, we can make trips to any altar and back to the bank almost twice as fast using the abyss and glories (which only can be used 4 times, tablets and laws can be stacked with no limit). And the best part about it, for me in particular, no paying runners!! Laws cost around 320, a massive discount from the runner payment.

I will admit that using runners is still faster than teleporting, and for those who can afford to lose the cash for fast exp, its the way to go. But without a doubt the runecrafting skill is better now, its easier and will most likely attract more people to get into it, which is jagex's intention. I'm interested in the effect this will have on related prices as well.

So sorry runners if your services are no longer neede. It was surely fun while it lasted but change is constant. And thank you jagex for making life as a runecrafter a little easier.

You are a bit late as someone said above. But there are still runners with the assist system and such.

+1, but this creates a High-level dominance, especially at the Air Altar where you won't get any runners below level 77 (at least not quickly enough to make it worth it).

Problem is running was a great way for lower levels to make some buck. I miss that now.

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude?

Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you?

Camera guy: still laughing

Matt: You want the funny shit that happens here and there, you think it comes out of your [bleep]ing [wagon] pushes garbage can down, don't you? You think it's funny? It comes out of here! running towards Camera guy

Camera guy: runs away still laughing

Matt: You think the funny comes out of your mother[bleep]ing creativity? Comes out of Satan, mother[bleep]er! nn--ngh! pushes Camera guy down

Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]!

Matt: FUNNY ISN'T REAL! FUNNY ISN'T REAL!

you don't seem to take into account the time it takes to play the minigame and get those tablets, which in that time is about the same speed as just running you're own essence lol (if you're doing nature runes)

The two updates that ruined F2P air crafting?

I used to do this as a way of money for a while. Made some nice coin IMO

Use the cabbage port :D Pretty fast and no money spent on laws and also you save 2-3 spaces as it's equipable :)

I've gotten my runecrafting up from 30 or 40 something to 55 just because of GoP and FoG. GoP makes it fun while you can buy teletabs and ess while GoP quickens the rc pace.

I love rc now :D

Getting the tablets, gloves, ess, etc are just prep stuff before you start the actual runecrafting. Besides, it doesn't take that long to make 75 tokens, and orb project tokens are easy to get even though that minigame isn't as fun. Plus, compared to walking back and forth from bank to altar, you still save time in the long run.

Your about 9 months late :|

Maybe he was having a baby, that's the reason?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it wasn't funny. Gf, you tried.

I think you meant 750 tokens. <3:

With a decent team you can get 750 tokens around roughly every fifteen minutes. For every six win game, I get about 1k exp. So if you have 10k exp until level up, that's about 10 games and 7.5k tokens total.

I disagree a bit on the bank to altar. But time seems to move faster when playing the minigame. That is, if you win.

About the fun factor. The minigame is a lot less boring than walking back and forth with a silly tiara on your head. GOP isn't fun when your mates just stand there doing nothing, whining and going "ohmigod" or "we lost" every time then piling the orb that's being yanked into the altar. Less talk, more pull.

Just prep stuff, eh? You should make godwords then if you don't consider the time to prepare for it. #-o

You use GoP to get tablets to craft tiaras or you play FoG to get earth gloves for earth runecrafting. These two options will save you time. But for example getting air tablets to craft airs is a waste of time.

However, this topic is a little bit late. Air rune prices dropped because of GoP - many people wanted to get 50 rc with airs. But FoG didn't have a large impact on it tbh.
