ilovecuttingyews
Recently my computer has been acting up, not loading things properly, not alowing me to go to some sites, and I can't even load a runescape world. I have the newest version of Java (at least I tried to download it from Java's site) and I have all the normal requirements to play RS. I have been playing RS on this comp for over 3 years and this is the first time that this has happened. When I go to the Java site and test to see whether I have the most recent Java installed the browser just freezes up and I have to kill it from the Task Manager. I know I have Java installed because in my Add/Remove Programs there are like 10 things all named Java. PS-> a week ago I came to Tech and Computers and followed a link to get Ad-Aware. I downloaded it and the problems happened shortly after that. I have had Ad-Aware in the past (before my computer had to be wiped) and had no problems with it. PLEASE HELP ME! And thank you in advance. Edit-> here is a pic of what comes up when I try to load a RS world. It comes up on other sites too (actually most sites) And when I click on the little popup thingy it tells me to install the Active-X controll. I click yes, then nothing happens (I have left it alone for 30 mins and still nothing)
runescapeloser22
Use Firefox or Chrome.
InkofDeath
Remove the ad-aware program and see if that works (though I doubt it). Also use different browsers and see if the same problem occurs. Since you have a 3 year old comp, I'm gonna assume an old CPU, and that you've got some new program(s) or whatever going on while you play Runescape. Could be something in the taskbar that is hidden, or something in your processes. Take pics of your CPU percentage being used while you try and play Rs. thrash-boy
As already said, switch to Firefox (<- click). trust me, you will NEVER go back once you work out how much better it is. All them java listings in your add remove programs arnt required. Im assuming they are 'Java 6 Update 1', 'Java 6 Update 2', 'Java 6 Update 3' and so on (you mightn't start at 1 and there may be a few missed here and there, but you get the general drift). You can safely remove all the updates except the latest one (update 11 i believe). if switching to Firefox doesn't fix your problem (which it probably will) then post again with whats going wrong in Firefox and someone will try to help. I already removed the Ad-Aware I don't have other browsers but I'll try and find some The computer itsself is like 4 years old. This summer we got a virus and had to get the computer wiped so there are very few programs on it. Also, we upgraded to 2GB ram. I rarely have other programs running when I play. CPU percentage is relativly low and no ther processes.
thrash-boy
I don't have other browsers but I'll try and find some here is the link for Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
ilovecuttingyews
Thank to all of you for your help, although you are just telling me how to avoid the problem, not fix it. This is a family computer and no one in our family is tech savvy. So when I get a new program it takes a long time to get used to it. And even though Firefox may be better I still like my good ol' IE7. So if someone could please think of what to do, or at least as questions that I may be able to answer that can help you figure out what's wrong, that'd be great. I'll be gone for the weekend but I'll try to check this forum. PS-> when in firefox I try to log into TIF, I put in my username and password, then click login. It says successfull login, then I click the Board Index button and it asks me to log in again.....it is sending me in a circle. Whats going on? sloter
To who ever said to install Firefox or another browser what does that solve. Possibly he/she can't? Maybe he/she doesn't want to. runescapeloser22
To who ever said to install Firefox or another browser what does that solve. Possibly he/she can't? How are you not able to install a browser? Your family won't notice the difference at all if they aren't tech-savvy like you said, if you want you can even get an IE7 theme and change the desktop icon/name and they'll never know :D
