Zierro
Because we live to work. Sure, people always say go and and travel and experience the world and blah blah blah, but where is all this money going to come from? A magic piggy bank? You can't do the things you want because you need to go to work for 40 hours a week for 40 years until you can retire, at which point you're too old and on a fixed income to do anything fun (if you even live that long). I would love to travel and live out on a lake some where and just be alone without technology, but that's never going to happen. For the rest of our lives we'll be living the same day over and over and over again Something different happens everyday. It's up to you to embrace the differences. My life has been changing a lot, especially lately so I disagree. I'll admit sometimes I get bored for a long while, but then I just think to myself that something new is always on the horizon. IGoddessI
Bad news is remembered more than good news. In the newspapers I've read there are more positive stories than negative stories. People winning jackpots, people helping out with the storms, how much x charity made, the horse races, comics, horoscopes, fun puzzles etc but bad news generally is what people remember reading about. That's why on average it makes the front page. Also people are informed of this horrible news like rape, murder, poverty and they become angry about it. Yes these problems are real, there's no denying it but would it make people less cynical if they were informed about how to improve it? A lot of what is written in newspapers or what is showing on the news is portrayed with pathos. Many intelligent people who "get" what's going on in the real world are being bombarded with it. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. Chained_life
Reality, Everyone has a bit of "Cynicism" in them. Those that don't haven't experienced the real world yet. Some just like to dwell on negativity because they like it. That's fine.

Barihawk
I'm considered to be a well-learned intelligent person and I have a very happy perspective on life. Then again, I also have religion to brighten my aspect as well. But still, life is good. You have to accept that bad things happen in the world and it's beyond your means to solve it yourself. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

I think that's another reason I'm pretty cynical. Looking at the CNN website, 10 of the top stories have something to do with death, war or crime. The rest are about Obama or 2008. The media does have a large influence on my life, and by hearing all this bad news, I get the impression the world's a terrible place. Is it? I personally think so.
