tripsis
There are many kinds of intelligence. And happiness doesn't always happen by itself. You've gotta learn how to be happy and it can take lots of time, studying, determination, and training. Some people never learn how to be happy. It's definitely different for everybody. I, for example, know exactly what things make me happy and have known for my whole life. It didn't take any searching or training because I discovered these things early on. But some people just haven't found their 'thing,' yet and are still searching for their passion(s). - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Lenin64
And happiness doesn't always happen by itself. You've gotta learn how to be happy and it can take lots of time, studying, determination, and training. Some people never learn how to be happy. People get happy by doing the things they enjoy, or things that bring them comfort. There's no "training" needed for that. :| It also depends on the person. Ofcourse it debends on person. By training/studying I simply mean dedicating time for searching what really makes you happy. For example I know it would be easy to sit on computer all day, playing games and that sort of things. I know I would like it, but I also know I wouldn't be truely happy that way, so I have to have to do some work to be happy. Being happy is not always easy. Or slugging through years and years of difficult schooling to reach the career you really want, right? Command the Murderous Chalices! Lenticular_J
I don't even know if I'll go to college. Why should I? Wasting either 1) Tons of my parent's money, 2) Tons of my time trying to get a scholarship, 3) Tons of my time working, or 4) Going deeply into debt, when I don't even have anything I want to learn how to do! It's ridiculous. Maybe I'll think differently in four years, but right now I'm seriously thinking about ending my formal schooling after high school , and riding my motorcycle into the sunset. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

ididnotlol
Im cynical becuase of the way i have been treated all my life, And because I see things from such a realistic point that instead of seeing things as either living or not living I see whether they are a useful pile of atoms that I might call a friend until day we argue or not. Randox
I'm a happy cynic. I belive the worst in just about everything including myself, and am constantly delighted whent eh world exceeds my expectations. Ok, thats not completly true. I have ccome to excepts that the general public is completly stupid when it comes to scientific issues, especialy journalists. A few clasic mental thoughts on things I have read include "It's dirt. Dirt dosen't burn." and "why are you panicking over PCB's when gasoline fumes are so bad for you one breath of them is possibly in excess of the safe dose for your entire life" followed by anything about how flourecent bulbs make a flying [bleep] of difference. Honestly, if a flourecent bulb is the largest improvement we can find, we are dommed since each successive solution will always be harder and less effective (ie do bigger things first). I shoudl explain the dirst thing. It is in refference to steel drums that contain soil that has some ammount of contamination. Everythign in these drums is a solid, and someone asked what happens if they burn. When was the last time you heard about steel or dirt burning? Before you ask, the contamenants themselves were about as flammable as concrete.
aquariusman
Since you might as well be saying that smart people are usually cynics, I oppose that statement. I am consider quite smart, but I am quite optimistic. Despite the fact that there are many things wrong with the world, I'd still say that the world as a whole is very well off. Just think of all the opportunities you have each day to do harm: being rude, tripping someone, punching someone, losing your anger, dismissing empathy. Now compare that to how many times you actually do that, and the opportunities very likely dwarf the acts. So the way I see it, things could be much worse, but they probably won't be. Of and I might point you in the direction of a certain John Lajoie video. I think it is a great way of looking at life. Name something you love. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience. EdgedThesis
Why have so many of you lost faith in humanity? At some point, did you lose faith in yourselves? Everyone of my best friends (Except my current one, of course) has backstabbed me. I've had a big argument with all but two of my current friends at some point. No, not debates over politics or religion, not silly fights - Arguments to the point where I didn't consider them friends anymore. I don't know if it caused it, or was a result of it, but I don't trust anyone. The result from that is that no one knows anything about me, and I know a ton of about them (YERSH I IS CREEPY STALKER), which is nice, but still. There is only one person I'd say I'm close with. Life_mage also summed up my thoughts well. There's been studies showing that the average intelligence is increasing, but I fail to see how. However, I'd like to point out that that's generally only the case in the west - Yea, entertainment is popular in China and Japan, but education and whatnot is highly valued. Unlike here in America. Giordano
I thought I was pretty negative, but compared to most of the replies of this thread, I'm definitely not. I've always thought on the lines of this: People have as much capacity to perform the admirable as they do to commit the terrible. While there may be several horrible, cruel, whatever-you-name-it people, there are some great ones that are waiting to be discovered by you. Fortunately, most of my friends I have I can count on and I know for a fact that my best friend I could trust with my life. I_am_Geed
being cynaical (sp?) is really all personality in my opinion Theres one kid that i know who could have a 4.03 GPA but he is cynaical and doesnt apply himself at all. Theres another kid that i know who seems "high on life" as the expression goes, and they are intelligent, giving the kid described above a good run for his money. I really thinks its all personality, but sometimes its some thoughts in general about life that can aid (ie death, why we are here, etc.)
