A question to all holding rares

Featured Replies

Mainly halloween masks or santas: is it worth just buying one for looks? I wanted to get a blue one to match with mage cape, and I'd have about 18m left if I did so. I haven't been training skills (except for fishing and agility) in a long time, and I was wondering if it was a good idea to just buy one for the helluvit

I know it's nice and all and it shows a sign of wealth but I still say no it's not worth it to buy only for the looks. It's nice at first but you eventually get tired of that same look if you have it too long.

First of all, I think the Halloween masks look utterly stupid.

That said, use your money to buy something useful. You don't have to spend it on skills, but buy a Saradomin Godsword, or something that will ALWAYS come in handy.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

You'll get over it so quickly it doesnt matter anymore.

Dont do it - Just a basic feather headdress ( :P ) Is win.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Though I dont really recommend buying show-off items, but party hat is a best choice, followed by mask.

Really, you will soon grow tired of it in a few days or weeks.

You could always borrow one for a low price...

Or you could buy the mask, then resell after a few days.

You've got the money, you may as well enjoy it. Buy the mask, fool around with it, then sell it again. You won't lose much money, but you'll have a lot of fun for a few days.

Well if your training fish via the money making way(ex: monks and sharks)to 99 and kept all the fish and sold, sure, I'd say go ahead and buy a mask. But its your mind on what to do.

I think it's fun to wear while skilling, especially with the new santa outfit...

But if you want skills faster for more 99's, then I suggest you invest the money into cooking, firemaking, smithing, or all those secondary skills.

I wouldn't recommend buying one for its looks, or as a status symbol. That being said if you've always wanted to own one then go for it. I recently bought a santa hat, something I've always wanted. Runescape is first and foremost a game. If owning a rare item makes you happy then you should definately buy it.

h' mask and rares have no combat stat boosts but they may look cool, not everyone has one or can afford one, and they symbolize wealth.

personally i think it would be best to just train up ur skills as an investment... bank 99cooking and 99fm. yes they r worthless kind of but 99s of anykind beats an item... use the rest efficiently on anything really. tbh i would only buy one if i have way enough money. if ur sort of worried then just dont risk anything and dont buy it. im not exactly sure how well they sell back.

+1, there are plenty of alternatives which look just as good and probably better.

I don't know what all these people are talking about saying "Don't buy for looks"... buying for looks is pretty much all rares are good for.

That's like saying "Don't buy elegant for looks" what other purpose does it serve?

I always say, if you want a rare, can afford the rare, and won't be broke later, then buy it. Rares nowadays are only good for looks. Merching them is slow and painful money and buying them as an investment has been a let down ever since restricted trades came. They go up but very very slowly so much so that it's pretty much not worth it. So buy for looks.

If you like the look of it, and you want it, then buy it. What's the point of having the money if you don't enjoy it?

Apparently, my signature was to big.

Alright, I've always been anal about that stuff anyway. I'll reconsider, thanks

Honestly, even though I own a mask, I'd recommend not buying one and saving the money for skilling.

I've owned it for three years (bought it forever ago for the bargain price of 300k, now worth 12 mil), and I keep it mainly for the fact that my character stands out a bit when wearing it. I'm sometimes paranoid about it, though, and I've considered selling it several times. It's nice to hear players remarking on it, but it's not a flood of warm fuzzies that you'd expect.

It even gets annoying telling newer players just what it is. It's nice, but consider getting one about the same as straight-up losing the money; you won't really find much advantage to it. If one of your goals, ever since you first started playing and saw a high level in a party hat, was to own a rare, then go for it; otherwise, don't bother.
