Profits with farming?

70kyews

Recommended Posts

I just became a member, and have heard a lot about the huge profits of farming. But when I check the price of ranarr seeds verse ranarr herbs i found that rannar seeds cost a lot more. So how would you make a profit planting them? Is it profitable only with herblore?

I'm really in the dark about pretty much the entire skill of farming. I looked at the skill guide on here but it pretty much just told me how much xp planting each thing gave you.

So what are the best ways to profit using farming?

seeds create herbs well duh..

1 seed can harvest 4-17(<- my personal best with snaps though)

do the quest "fairy tale part 1"

use supercompost on the patch before you plant to have higher yields

Here, use this. (A great guide written by troacctid)

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=766236

Tells you the basic idea behind farming herbs, and the reason in which you will always get a profit (Providing it doesn't die)

The great guide also gives you some figures/charts to work with, showing you clearly how well you will profit, and with what herb.

Happy Farming :)

You should really do Fairytale P1 before you do hardcore herb farming.

With the secateurs your crops gather chance increases quite a bit

And when you plant a seed you get more than 1 herb, and an average of 6 (?) Ranarrs p/seed.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Plant the most profitable herbs you can. Ranarrs are great for lower levels but don't give much xp, Toadflax is also really good. Always plant Limpwurts cuz those give profit and the best xp for flowers. I don't do the allotments anymore but I used to plant onions cuz the seeds were pretty much free and you could throw them into the compost bin to make more composts.

I suggest doing Throne of Miscelania and Royal Trouble so you can benefit from Manage Thy Kingdom. Check out Tifs guide on that on the homepage it can earn you hundreds of thousands of gp's a day by just investing 1m+ in your kingdom and keeping your aproval rating up. If you put your workers on farming or maples you'll get tree seeds and herb seeds for farming for a very cheap price. Thats how I do my farming and profit. Also if you cba with that then you can buy Toadflax seeds and plant those they are a cheap seed thats under 1k and the herbs sell for 1.5k+.

ill also recommend you to calculate your profit/loss together with herblore training. you can probably start farming guams or tarromins, then make attack/strength potions. yup, you'll earn less, or make nothing at all, but you'll be leveling 2 skills at the same time.

really up to you whether you want to earn loads of gp, then have to spend it all leveling herblore later. =)

The simple answer is that you get more than one herb per seed, of course. :ugeek:

You can expect 6-7 herbs per seed, on average, if you use supercompost and magic secateurs.

Thank you. The only person to actually answer the main question.

I personally grow Toadflax. The seeds (currently) sell for about 500gp on the G.E.

Assuming your patch doesn't become diseased and die, you'll at least get 5 herbs from every seed you plant. The current G. E. price for Clean Toadflax is 2,241gp. That's a total of about 11.2K gp for selling the 5 herbs. Pretty nice profit, considering the low cost of the seeds.

As others have suggested, it's highly recommended to do Fairytale Part 1. As a reward from your quest, you receive Magic secatures, which increase the yeilds of all of your crops - not just herbs. Also, be sure to use compost (preferably Supercompost if available, but regular Compost is better than none) on all of your herb patches to increase the chances of growing them successfully.

Farming is a pretty misunderstood skill for those who haven't tried it yet. Most people just assume that you have to stand at the patch alllll daaay looong watching and watering your crops. This isn't really the case. If you time it correctly, you can enjoy other skills such as Fishing and Fletching while waiting for your herbs to grow.

PM me if you have more Farming questions - I don't have a crazy high level in it, but it's one of my favorite skills still!

Good luck, and happy farming!
