This group is, at it's most basic, a multi-mmo clan with a large focus on zerg tactics. From what little I've seen, they are the only group on this planet that can make Scientology look moderately sane, including things such as Anonymous and (maybe) Satanism. If at all possible, I'd like to hear your experiences, opinions, and any general info you have on this group. Thank you.

Don't talk smack if you're not willing to say it to the person's face. On the same line, if you're not willing to back up your opinions no matter what, your opinion may as well be nonexistent.

Do you mean the Goon squad? If so that's just Something Awful's big collective guild. I (think) I may have ran into them on Age of Conan before.

yeah, they were called goonheim on AoC I think though. Goon Squad on WoW.

I can see how what they do can be amusing, but its not to my tastes. Although their site www.wowgoons.com is remarkably well done.

You think the Goons are worse than Anon??

From what little I've seen, yes. Two reasons. One, you don't have to pay real life money to be in it. Two, they don't treat it like a f***ing religion.

Yeah, Something awful is odd. You have the people who make fun of the neckbeards and no lifes and then you have like an entire section filled with some of the [bleep]ing weirdest people you'll ever see on the internet. At least on 4chan you're anonymous for the most part, on something awful it's another story entirely.

GoonFleet for EVE Online as well.

Still, I like the forum.

ok.. you DONT have to pay money to be in them.. although I'm sure if you offered they'd take it. You have to be a member of the somethingawful forums to be a member of a goon guild. (although that in itself costs money)

I'm not even gonna get into the goons/anon arguement. Its just plain stupid.

I can see people sucking up to 'platinum' members on the forums and in game, but really all I'd see is a person who's sad enough to pay $50 a month for no good reason.

That about sums it up, really. However, the facepalm value isn't what I'm worried about. What I'm worried about is their ability to zerg a game straight to Hell. They seem to have the sheer force of players to be able to beat the stuffing out of anything short of a server-wide Goon bounty or something similar. If it comes to this, they might force a game to either remove them permanently or just die. Really, how many groups do you know of who can take on a group numbering as much as +4000, even if you factor in collision detection and friendly fire?

That's mostly just ADTRW, as they're about the only ones who are actually like that in real life. I don't understand whether you're saying that you think posting anonymously decreases the number of insane posters or not?

Also, guys, like Jaziek said...

The subscription thing is a joke.

Nah, I just meant that on something awful they aren't anonymous, so you really get to see the amount of... weirdness. 4Chan has a ton of insane posters too, just you don't know which insane poster is which. :P

I remember Wired did an article on this...

They hack Second Life with digusting porn like situations (and kill random people), they're WoW hackers, and they destroyed the first Titan-class battleship ever in EVE Online (Which costs about $10,000 (RL money) worth of in-game resources).

...Basically a bunch of /b/tards. Good article, though.

I see what you mean about second life... but why is destroying a battleship in eve a bad thing? Isnt that kind of... the aim of the game? sure you could do things peacefully, but wheres the fun in that?

True ::'

But, they basically had a no-life team of over 100 people buying the cheapest possible ships over and over to destroy it.

Meh, I don't even play any of these games.

It's not so much that they destroyed a battleship, it's that they done so EXCLUSIVELY to make people get pissed off. As they say, "It's all for the lulz." Honestly, while I get that the internet overall is supposed to be something for the purpose of having fun, doing so intentionally to hinder others' fun should get your internet privileges permanently revoked, by way of eye extraction.

The entire point of EVE is to do that. When I PvP in games all the time my main goal is to hinder the enemy player. It's no fun if you play like a little [bleep] and don't hurt anyone (a carebear).

And stop with comparing them to /b/ and 4chan, they are two separate things entirely (something awful and 4chan) even if 4chan did come from an old Something Awful user. I'm starting to think you guy's think any wacky things that happen on the Internet comes from 4chan.

And btw I'm pretty sure it was BoB that destroyed the first titan class; the Goons took out the third one ever made. By now there's like 200 of them.

Yeah, I'm also pretty sure it was BoB...and I think the Goons used the same tactics as they did.....small ship swarming.
