My 360 is not reading any discs. I put it in and it says its reading, and then it just says open tray. I open it and close it and it dosnt change.

Anybody have some ideas? I searched xbox.com up and down

How many games how you tried to play? If every game you've tried doesn't work you might have bumped your console too hard at some point and loosened the part that reads the disks.

You may have to send it in to Microsoft.

Ive tried maybe 11 or 12 games, and 5 or 6 dvds...

Is there any warranty coverage on the discs not reading?

There should be if you've never sent it in before. If you have you have you'll have to cough up $99.

Wait for a price drop and get a PS3 if you've really been unlucky to this point.

I had this same problem. I could get it to work though by taking out the hardrive a few times and putting it back in, sometimes putting the xbox on it's side, and sometimes putting DVDs in. There is a known problem for the Xbox to have a set of magnets somewhere around the disc tray getting loose and falling out of place (something like that). I had to send mine in and I got another one which has worked fine. So I recommend sending it in if it keeps up (If possible).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, mine also made sputtering noises when I put the discs in (Unless they actually decided to work).

Erm

Sounds like a laser problem.

Will be under the basic warranty. But then all they will do is clean the laser and ship it back to you. Best bet is look for the discs that you can use to clean lasers.

Sounds like what happened to my friend. Turned out to be his harddrive was somehow causing the problem. Have you tried playing discs without the harddrive in?

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Try all these:

Put in disc with xbox 360 standing up

Put in disc with xbox 360 lying down (Its safer than having it stand up like in the adverts. It will look like _ . Make sure its right way so the Xbox 360 sign on the cd case isn't upsidedown)

If you have a memory stick move your gamer account in system settings from hardrive to memory stick and then try playing a game. It might be the hardrive causing the problem.

Make sure there isn't any scratches on your game discs.

Thats all I can think of... :/

If none of these work you will have to send your xbox to Microsoft (Or buy another which is a stupid idea). D:

Keep taking the disc out and put it back in its the problem that Microsoft didn't remove but left there.

Buy a lens cleaner... Happens to me so i bang the lens cleaner in and its fine..

I was being serious about kicking it in the teeth y'know. Mine started sputtering out so I removed the game that was in there and gave it a good boot. Haven't had any problems with it for around a year now.

I got it figured out, Just open it, let it get all the way open and close it. Let it read and repeat until it works. Been working fine since I got it working. Had to do it once again though, better than sending it in though, eh?
