I put it in and it says its reading, and then it just says open tray. I open it and close it and it dosnt change. Anybody have some ideas? Riku3220
How many games how you tried to play? If every game you've tried doesn't work you might have bumped your console too hard at some point and loosened the part that reads the disks. You may have to send it in to Microsoft. Hugger_88
Ive tried maybe 11 or 12 games, and 5 or 6 dvds... There should be if you've never sent it in before. If you have you have you'll have to cough up $99.

Why_Not
I had this same problem. I could get it to work though by taking out the hardrive a few times and putting it back in, sometimes putting the xbox on it's side, and sometimes putting DVDs in. There is a known problem for the Xbox to have a set of magnets somewhere around the disc tray getting loose and falling out of place (something like that). I had to send mine in and I got another one which has worked fine. So I recommend sending it in if it keeps up (If possible). EDIT: Forgot to mention, mine also made sputtering noises when I put the discs in (Unless they actually decided to work). Erm
limpbizkit
Sounds like a laser problem. Will be under the basic warranty. But then all they will do is clean the laser and ship it back to you. Best bet is look for the discs that you can use to clean lasers. Tif 360 MGC Leaderboard
aquariusman
Sounds like what happened to my friend. Turned out to be his harddrive was somehow causing the problem. Have you tried playing discs without the harddrive in? There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience. M_u_s_ii_X
Try all these: Put in disc with xbox 360 standing up Put in disc with xbox 360 lying down (Its safer than having it stand up like in the adverts. It will look like _ . Make sure its right way so the Xbox 360 sign on the cd case isn't upsidedown) If you have a memory stick move your gamer account in system settings from hardrive to memory stick and then try playing a game. It might be the hardrive causing the problem. Make sure there isn't any scratches on your game discs. Thats all I can think of... :/ If none of these work you will have to send your xbox to Microsoft (Or buy another which is a stupid idea). Poppet
Keep taking the disc out and put it back in its the problem that Microsoft didn't remove but left there.

Nero
I was being serious about kicking it in the teeth y'know. Mine started sputtering out so I removed the game that was in there and gave it a good boot. Haven't had any problems with it for around a year now. Hugger_88
I got it figured out, Just open it, let it get all the way open and close it. Let it read and repeat until it works. Been working fine since I got it working. Had to do it once again though, better than sending it in though, eh? - 60,023rd to 99 Firemaking on April 29th, 2012 -- 15,152nd to 99 agility on August 21st, 2011 -- 30,569th to 99 Prayer on June 26th, 2011 -- 22,646th to 99 Hunter on Jan 9th, 2011 -1993 Miata; sold - 2001 E46 330i; "totaled" - 2001 E46 325iT; Bags and wheels ;)
luluu247
i have that same problem. usually i open and close the drive until it works. but it takes to much time and i don't have time to waste, so im probably going to send it in.
