Hello friend, Senajitkaushik was epic, Good luck bro.

Take a probability course. Then pinch yourself for believing in such nonsense. Superstition is a terrible thing to base discisions on.

Luck doesn't exist, only probabilities.

well something can be unlucky, its just that there is no empirical thing called luck

if your playing a game with dice and keep getting terrible roles it is unlucky in the the sense you are getting results that are unfavorable.

You arent cursed by bad luck though, its just a coincidence if a bunch of unlikely (bad) things happen.

Not luck. Only Probabilities.

The person playing the game has hit the random 1/x chance on getting y bad roles

That means it's not unlucky?

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/unlucky:

1 : marked by adversity or failure
likely to bring misfortune

Likely to bring misfortune means that there is a higher percentage of failures than success. Probabilities are not so, they have equal percentages (atleast with the dice situation).

You took what he said to mean "likely to bring misfortune" when he meant "marked by failure".

In fact, he counters your post in the post you quoted:

I never quoted that :?

Also, "Likely to bring misfortune" was the second definition for unlucky

By that definition, what are you arguing? Because casinos are likely to bring misfortune; they manipulate the probabilities to make it so the house wins more often.

What about the JFK - Lincoln Assassination phenomenon? What are the odds of that happening?

Unfathomable to calculate for anyone here.

because nothing is inherently unlucky, its reality.

[iNSERT "I R EATIN TEH SHIX ATM" BILL COSBY SIGNATURE GIF HERE, LOL]

bad luck describes the occurence of a certain outcome that is a bad thing from the viewer's perspective, generally two or more events is unlucky as opposed to just a regular outcome.

As an example

you bet 5$ on each flip of a coin and choose to bet on heads each time

if the coin comes up tails 10 times in a row it is bad luck because that outcome is disfavorable and the odds of it occuring are 1/1024. 1/1024 is just as likely as any specific combination of coin flips, but since the all tails occurence is particularly bad (from your perspective) it is bad luck

Just try and ignore it. I wouldn't know how to deal with thinking sonething is lucky/unlucky, though, because I never really think that way. I think some people are just more prone to believing in superstitions than others.

Edit: I agree with the suggestion to take a course on statistics/probability. I'm actually doing that right now, and it does help you understand probabilities and natural variation in data better.

What are you trying to convince yourself of that isn't unlucky? Is it an object? a superstition? what is it?

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
